Wet purification process for the selective separation of montmorillonite from Gampo 13 and 35 bentonite ores was studied using physical processes such as ultrasonic scrubbing, decantation and centrifugation. Ultrasonic Scrubbing of Gampo 13 and 35 bentonite ores was revealed excellent result at 7 wt.% of slurry density and was almost finished within 30 minutes in the sample of Gampo 13 and 10 minutes in the sample of Gampo 35, respectively After decantation, approximately 52 wt.% from the bentonite of Gampo 13 and 64wt.% from the bentonite of Gampo 35 were recovered as purified products and the CEC was reached up to 119.4 meq/100 g and 124.5 meq/100 g, respectively. Particle separation by centrifugation showed that most of the impurity minerals such as quartz and feldspar were removed within the condition of 1,000 rpm.
The apparent nutrient digestibilities were examined by using chromic oxide indicator according to the various fecal collection methods in juvenile and adult Korean rockfish (Sebastes schlegeli). Feces were collected from three replicate groups of fish by dissection, stripping or decantation using fecal collector attached to fish rearing tank, respectively. The digestibilities of dry matter, protein, lipid, and energy were affected by fecal collection methods (P<0.01), but not affected by fish size. The digestibilities of nutrient determined by stripping or decantation methods were significantly higher than those determined by dissection method (P<0.01). No significant differences in the digestibilities of protein, lipid and energy were found between the stripping and decantation methods in adult fish (P>0.01). The digestibilities of dry matter, protein, lipid, energy, nitrogen-free extract, and total amino acids in juvenile and adult fish were 58, 93, 94, 79, 32, and $93\%$, and 61, 94, 96, 80, 29, and $94\%$, respectively, when they were measured by decantation method. Methionine, cystine and valine digestibilities were significantly lower than those of other amino acids in both juvenile and adult fish (P<0.01). Results indicate that stripping or decantation with fecal collector could be a reliable digestibility procedure for measuring the nutrient digestibilities in Korean rockfish.
A general study on the upgrading of mica minerals which are mainly found in pegmatite deposits was carried out for the purpose of developing a technique for recovering mica in form of comercial grade products. By the way the grade one of about 5~6% $K_2O$ still is not developed. The target of this research work is to be establish a process for the efficient concentration of muscovite, containing more than 10% $K_2O$. The tests are applied to incraese the recovery and grade of concentrates in term of variations of conditions. The test sample consists of mainly muscovite and gangue mineral such as quartz, pyrite and chlorite. Decantation and shaking table tests were ineffective to up-grade this low grade one, but flotation method gave satisfactory result. By means of grade one, but flotation method gave satisfactory result. By means of grindability tests, an optimum result could be obtained from the sample ground to -48mesh feed size. The flotation result indicates that the dodecyl ammonium chloride used as a cationic collector is effective on the negatively charged surface, while the sodium dodecyl sulfate as an anionic collector is effective on the positively charged surface. Muscovite was floated by petroleum sulfonate as well as amine type collector, it also floated by MIBC as well as pine oil frother under well condition. Fine muscovite concentrates of about 10.68% $K_2O$ was obtained with 22.4% yield, by decantation, the muscovite concentrates of 10.10% $K_2O$ was obtained with 23.54% yield, by table concentration, the muscovite concentrates of 11.51% $K_2O$ was obtained with 23.0% yield by flotation.
In order to investigate the solidification characteristics of CV. graphite cast iron, decantation technique and thermal analysis test were used. Solidification characteristics were studied in the specimens with various compositions and graphite shape. The results were as follows; 1. The first surface solidifcation layer is formed along the mold wall by the growth of austenite dendrites in hypoeutectic composition and thin solid film in hypereutectic composition. 2. The mushy degree of solidifcation of hypereutiectic composition is higher than that of hypoeutectic. 3. In hypoeutectic, the effect of change of the mushy degree of solidification on the graphite shape is small, however, in hypereutectic the mushy degree of solidification becomes higher in order of flake, CV, and spheroidal graphite cast iron.
Studies on the elimination of tannin from the acorns containing tannin up to 9%, for the utilization of the acorns in Korea, carried out as follows: 1. The strain of Asp. niger sp. which yield the reasonable enzymatic activity of tannase was isolated from the rotten acorns. 2. The method of hydrolyzing tannin in the water by suspending, and agitatiag the acorn powder: followed by decantation, showed the best result aomng the conventional methods in the efficiency of removal of tannin and in the economy of the process by reducing the tannin content to 0.18% in 24 hours. 3. It was notable that the acorn'powder from which the tannin was eliminated contains various essential amino acids in relatively ample a mount.
Decomposition promoting factors and decomposition mechanism in the zinc decomposition process of waste hard metals which are composed mostly of tungsten carbide and cobalt were evaluated. Zinc volatility amount was suppressed and zinc valatilization pressure was produced in the reaction graphite crucible inside an electric furnace for ZDP. Reaction was done for 2 h at $650^{\circ}C$, which 100 % decomposed the waste hard metals that were over 30 mm thick. As for the separation-decomposition of waste hard metals, zinc melted alloy formed a liquid composed of a mixture of ${\gamma}-{\beta}1$ phase from the cobalt binder layer (reaction interface). The volume of reacted zone was expanded and the waste hard metal layer was decomposed-separated horizontally from the hard metal. Zinc used in the ZDP process was almost completely removed-collected by decantation and volatilization-collection process at $1000^{\circ}C$.

Methanesulfonic acid (MSA) was used as catalyst to remove trace organic sulfur (thiophene) from Fluid Catalytic Cracking gasoline (FCC) via alkylation with olefins. The reactions were conducted in Erlenmeyer flask equipped with a water-bath under atmospheric pressure. The influence of the temperature, the reaction time, and the mass ration of MSA were investigated. After a 60 min reaction time at 343 K, the thiophene conversion of 98.7% was obtained with a mass ration of MSA to oil of 10%. The catalyst was reused without a reactivation treatment, and the thiophene conversion reached 92.9% at the third time. The method represents an environmentally benign route to desulfur, because MSA could easily be separated from the reaction mixture via decantation and it could be reused.
Esterification of free fatty acid with methanol to biodiesel was investigated in a batch reactor using various solid acid catalysts, such as polymer cation-exchanged resins with sulfuric acid functional group(Amberlyst-15, Dowex 50Wx8), acidic ionic liquids (ILs)-modified silica gels respectively with $-SO_3H$ and $-SO_2Cl$ functional group ($SiO_2-[ASBI][HSO_4]$, $SiO_2-[ASCBI][HSO_4]$) and grafted silica gels respectively with $-SO_3H$ and $-SO_2Cl$ functional group ($SiO_2-R-SO_3H$, $SiO_2-R-SO_2Cl$). The effects of reaction time, temperature, reactant concentration(molar ratio of methanol to oleic acid), and catalyst amount were studied. Allylimidazolium-based ILs on modified silica gels were superior to other tested solid acid catalysts. Especially, the performance of $SiO_2-[ASBI][HSO_4]$ (immobilized by grafting of 3-allyl-1-(4-sulfobutyl)imidazolium hydrogen sulfate on silica gel) was better than that of a widely known Amberlyst-15 catalyst at the same reaction conditions. A high conversion yield of 96% was achieved in the esterification reaction of the simulated cooking oil at 353 K for 2 h. The high catalytic activity of $SiO_2-[ASBI][HSO_4]$ was attributed to the presence of strong Brønsted acid sites from the immobilized functional groups. The catalyst was recovered and the biodiesel product was separated by simple processes such as decantation and filtration.
Production of biodiesel from soybean oil catalyzed by Lewis acidic ionic liquids(ILs) containing metal chloride salts was investigated in this study. Metal chloride salts, such as $SnCl_2$, $ZnCl_2$, $AlCl_3$, $FeCl_3$ and CuCl, were screened for oil transesterification in the range of 363-423 K. Among these metal chlorides, tin chloride showed particularly high catalytic property for the oil transesterification. Similarly, among these Lewis acidic ionic liquid catalysts, $[Me_3NC_2H_4OH]Cl-2SnCl_2$ resulted in a high fatty acid methyl esters(FAMEs) content of 91.1% under the following reaction conditions: 403 K, 14 h, and a molar ratio of 1:12:0.9 (oil:methanol:catalyst). Unlike the pure tin chloride catalysts, Lewis acidic ILs containing tin chloride $[Me_3NC_2H_4OH]Cl-2SnCl_2$ catalyst could be recycled up to five times without any significant loss of activity by separating from the FAMEs with simple decantation. The Lewis acidity and high moisture-stability of this catalyst appeared to be responsible for the excellent catalytic performance. The effects of reaction time and the molar ratio of methanol/catalyst to oil on the FAMEs production were also studied in this work.
Deodorized soybean oils(DSO) were obtained to 2 types. Sample 1 was carried out a general refining process, which was degumming-alkali refining-bleaching-deodorizing. Sample 2 and 3 were not general refining process, its were carried out only both decantation of insoluble impurities and batch type deodorizing(BTD). At this time, BTD was composed of 3 stages, operating differences were vacuum degree, maximum temperature, stripping steam and retention time etc. DSO obtained were appeared original physicochemical characteristics. Sample 1 had acid value 0.034, Lovibond color, 9.1Y/0.9R, peroxide value 0 and thin yellow color's soybean oil. But sample 2 had acid value, 0.078, Lovibond color, 65.0Y/18.39R/4.2B/0.1N, peroxide value, 0.7 and bright green color's soybean oil. Sample 3 had acid value, 0.072, Lovibond color, 37.3Y/3.8R/0.1B/0.1N, peroxide value 1.6 and dark brown color's soybean oil. These colorful DSO were expects as raw-materials of various seasoning oils as like pine needle and/or perilla leaf seasoning oil.
