This investigation was carried out to study generation of solid waste and collection system in the College of Engineering and College of Social Science, library, dormitory and student center of Kangwon National University. It is to supply basic data for solid waste management. Each result of investigation considers effect getting generation property, unit waste generation rate and reusing.
Waste body settlement is an important aspect of management of landfill sites both during the operational and the post-closure phases. Settlement in landfill waste is caused by combination of load, creep and biodegradation induced effects. In this paper, settlement characteristics of closed waste landfill were studied by analyzing in situ measured data and computer simulation technique. Techniques for the analysis of load-induced and creep settlement, and for their implementation, can be adapted for landfill waste. The estimate of settlements from models shows a increase according to time.
In the waste collection system, living waste is collected through the piping network. There are many confluent pipes in a piping network. These confluent pipes were often clogged up with waste. The optimal configuration of the confluent pipes has been defined by the design guide. However, nobody know how this design guide were determined. Therefore, in this paper, we found the design data for the confluent pipe configuration in order to avoid the waste clogging in a piping network. The distance between connected point on the confluent pipes should be longer than the previous design guide.
The feasibility of waste concrete as a catalyst for the effective pyrolysis of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) was examined using thermogravimetric (TG) and pyrolyzer-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (Py-GC/MS) analyses. TG analysis results indicated that the maximum decomposition temperature of PET is not altered by the use of waste concrete, showing similar values (407 ℃ and 408 ℃ at 5 ℃/min). Meanwhile, the volatile product distribution data obtained from the Py-GC/MS analysis revealed that the use of waste concrete promoted the deoxygenation reaction via converting the oxygen containing products such as benzoic acids, benzoates, and terephthalates to valuable deoxygenated aromatic hydrocarbons including benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and styrene. This suggests that the waste concrete can be used as a potential catalyst for the production of valuable aromatic hydrocarbons from PET pyrolysis.
The purpose of this study were to examine the disposal consciousness of foods waste and meal management behavior related to environmental conservation, and to find out the ways to improve the disposal of foods waste. Data were collected from questionaire with 786 housewives who live in Chonbuk area. About 45% of foods waste consisted of vegetables and fruits. The levels of cooking(use) and idsposal behavior among meal management behavior were relatively high, but food preparation(buy) score was low. These results suggested that menu planning before food preparation, and buying some cleaned and trimmed foods in the market should be recommennded to reduce the foods waste. The levels of meal management behavior did not show any significant associaations with disposal consciousness of foods waste but were positively correlated to environmental conciousness. It could be thought that the effort of government administration to reduce and reuse of foods waste is needed to improve the desirable disposal behavior of that, and the well programmed enviornmental education should be more required and practical than increase the environmental conciousness.
Recently environmental pollution at sea becomes serious, so every governmental organization makes its effort to solve this problem. Combustible ocean wastes as of ropes, fishing nets, and tires are usually highly polymerized compound materials. The problem of ocean waste treatment can be solved by using the pyrolysis method. Pyrolysis characteristics of ocean waste was examined to get the basic data for the production system of fuel from the ocean waste. Thermogravimetric experiment showed that residual mass rate decreases as the velocity of temperature-rising becomes lower. The pyrolysis of waste rope and fishing net occurs at 300~450$^{\circ}C $ and the waste tire does at 350~450$^{\circ}C $. Pyrolysis time is estimated about 15 to 20 minutes in the temperature range when lively act of pyrolysis temperature reached.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to prevent health problems and environmental contamination resulting from inappropriate management of dental wastes and to provide reference data for revision and supplementation of dental clinic waste management guidelines. Methods: From 640 total of dental clinics registered in 16 cities and counties in Gyeongsangnam-do, 100 (60 in Changwon (Masan, Changwon), 29 in Gimhae, and 11 in Jinju) were included in this study. From July 2010 to September 2010, investigators visited the 100 dental clinics and conducted survey interviews using a structured survey questionnaire regarding disposal methods for liquid wastes (suction pump, spittoon container waste, used liquid disinfectants, and X-ray developer), and disposal methods for solid waste (suction pump, spittoon container waste, and general medical waste). Results: All the 100 dental clinics were found to treat liquid waste from suction pumps and spittoon containers in the same manner as general waste water. Nineteen percent of the clinics treated solid waste that was not filtered through the filter of a suction pump as general waste. Fifty or more percent of the clinics treated solid waste in spittoon containers as general waste. Seventy percent of the clinics used disinfectant solution, although most of them treated used disinfectants in the same manner as general waste water. Some clinics treated used X-ray developer and X-ray fixer in the same manner as general waste water. In most of the clinics, used drapes were washed within the clinic. Conclusions: It was found that waste water and dental wastes at some dental clinics were treated in inappropriately. Thus, in conclusion, the development of guidelines regarding proper management of liquid and solid dental waste at dental clinics is required, and hygiene and environmental training for workers at dental clinics is necessary.
Purpose: This study aimed to identify the factors affecting the practice of medical waste management of nurses in tertiary general hospitals after the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Methods: The participants were 154 nurses working in two tertiary general hospitals. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using an Independent t-test, One-way ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis using the SPSS/WIN 27.0 program. Results: Factors significantly influencing the subject's practice of medical waste management include medical waste education(β=.18, p=.013), recognition of infection control organizational culture (β=.26, p=.007), and attitudes toward medical waste management (β=.23, p=.011). The explanatory power of these variables for medical waste management practice was 29.0% (F=7.34, p<.001). Conclusion: To improve the practice of medical waste management, a strategy to provide positive attitudes toward medical waste management should be needed when developing medical waste management training programs, and various measures are necessary to make the organizational culture positive for the implementation of infection control guidelines at the organizational level.
