  • This study aims at investigating the effects of collective promotion on the attainment of literacy, numeracy, and essential life skills by primary school pupils and also to find out if the policy of collective promotion meets its objective of minimization of wastage in basic education. The study used written tests for pupils in the final class (Level II, class 6) to collect data in some selected English-speaking primary schools in Meme Division of Cameroon. Descriptive statistics and a one way ANOVA were used for analyzing data. The results revealed that the policy of collective promotion negatively affects the attainment of literacy, numeracy, and essential life skills of pupils in Kumba, Meme Division. Teachers who assisted in the study through personal communication with the researcher argued that collective promotion in basic education does not achieve its objective of minimizing wastage of educational resources; neither does it positively improve the literacy, numeracy, and essential life skills of pupils. This study recommends that the policy of collective promotion can be revisited and that focus be placed not only on minimizing wastage of resources but also on investing on quality education system so as to equip the would-be leaders of tomorrow with skills, knowledge, and attitudes which will make them functional and responsible citizens in their society.

  • This thesis is to figure out the influences of children's gender, educational level of parents, educational participation of the mother, teaching method of teacher and literacy conditions of home and class on preschool children's school readiness. The objects of this study are 141 preschool children under 5 years old, 141 parents and 42 class teachers. Test for School Readiness, Measure of Mother's Educational Participation, Measure of Teacher's Teaching Method, and Measures of Literacy Condition of Home and Class are used as a studying tool. Collected materials were analyzed by Three-way ANOVA, Correlation analysis of Spearman, product-moment correlation analysis of Pearson, and phased regression analysis. The results are as follows: First, there are meaningful differences between the gender of children and mother's educational level for the school readiness. Second, except for the home's literacy condition, children's gender, educational level of parents, educational participation of mother, teaching method of teacher and literacy conditions of class show the meaningful positive correlation with the children's school readiness. Third, the adaptive zone, which is the subordinated zone, is affected by the gender of children, and the knowledge zone is influenced by the mother's educational level most. These results will be useful for the basic data that can help to promote school readiness for children's parents and teachers.

  • The purpose of this study was not only to identify the level of health literacy, self-management knowledge and self-care behavior, but also to identify the relations those variables in elders with hemodialysis. The subjects of this study are 193 patients from dialysis clinics of nine hospitals in Incheon who aging over 60 years old. Data collection was conducted by using Health Literacy Scale, Self-Management Knowledge Scale, and Self-Care Behavior Scale. The data were analysed by descriptive analysis, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient using SPSS statistics 23.0 program. In the results, average score of subjects' health literacy, self-management knowledge and self-care behavior were 13.66(±2.09), 13.33(±1.85) and 63.95(±10.32), respectively. There were significant positive correlation between self-management knowledge and health literacy (r=0.37, p<.001) and reading comprehension part which is subscale in health literacy (r=.25, p=.001). Also, there was significant positive correlation between self-management knowledge and self-care behavior (r=0.15, p<.05). According to the above results, for improving the self-care behaviors in elders with hemodialysis, it is necessary to provide tailored education based on his/her level of health literacy.

For this study, data were gathered from 396 adults over the age of 60 years in a welfare center for senior citizens in D Metropolitan City. Hierarchical regression analysis was performed to verify the mediating effects of self-efficacy on the relationship between digital information literacy and life satisfaction of the elderly. The analysis showed that the digital information literacy and self-efficacy were positively correlated. Moreover, higher digital information literacy had a positive effect on self-efficacy. Furthermore, the level of information literacy using digital devices had a positive effect on their life satisfaction. Therefore, the satisfaction of life in old age is increased by the medium of self-efficacy. Based on these findings, several measures for improving digital information literacy were discussed.

  • A basic ability test is conducted in recent days to screen gifted students who could make a contribution to the enhancement of national competitiveness in knowledge-based information society. A basic ability is here defined as an ability related to creativity and thinking faculty, and CS literacy is ruled out, though it seems that everybody needs CS literacy in knowledge-based information society. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between CS literacy and giftedness. The subjects in this study were 61 gifted students. The selected students participated in an CS program during a six-week period of time in order to find out the effect of the program. And it's found that there were gaps among the students in CS literacy according to the level of giftedness, and information science literacy has a statistically significant correlation to giftedness. Therefore a screening test of gifted students should cover CS literacy, as CS literacy seems to be mandatory for every field of information society.

  • This study analyzed the kinds and frequencies of descriptors in 154 articles in ERIC data base on the 4th day of January in 2010. The titles of the articles includes the words, 'scientific literacy'. As each descriptor is constituted of two words and over, in this study the first word in the descriptor was defined as 'restrictive word' and the rest word(s) as 'target word(s)'. The results are as follows. First, the descriptors which show high frequencies of target words are the traditionally important themes of scientific literacy education. Target words which show relatively high frequency are 'education', 'literacy', 'instruction' and 'countries'. Low frequency word is 'curriculum', which has various restrictive words and represents wide differentiation. Second, among the descriptors which show low frequencies of target words, relatively high frequency descriptors are '(and)society', 'change', 'secondary education', 'concepts', and 'biology', which have been given more attention in scientific literacy research than the rest descriptors. Third, the number of the descriptors that shows largely distributed pattern A, which happens over 15 years continuously, is over the half of all analyzed descriptors, which shows that they have been the major objectives in researches about scientific literacy. Most descriptors of pattern A shows normal distribution of frequency or the trends of increasing frequency as the time is nearer. Fourth, The descriptors are divided into four groups according to the time span. Each research trends are as follows. In later 80s, the research which emphasizes the importance of the sociality and technology in all level school science curriculum. In later 90s the research for educational change of inquiry-centered science curriculum which considers technological literacy in social contexts. In earlier 2000s the research that scientists and science teachers develop science curricula mostly related to scientific principles and thinking in chemistry and biology especially. In later 2000s case studies which relates teaching methods and science process activities to students' attitudes, scientific concepts and curricula.

Data were collected between April and May 2022 from 118 nursing students at a university located in K City, and were analyzed using descriptive statistics, two-sample t-test, one-way ANOVA, and multiple regression with the SPSS 18.0 program. The results showed that nursing students generally have good digital literacy, but they struggle with specific areas like material development and information evaluation. Nursing students' digital literacy (β=.311, p=.001), followed by academic self-efficacy (β=.184, p=.048), had a significant impact on problem-solving ability (F=12.237, p< .001), as explanaing 16.1% of the variation. To improve nursing students' digital literacy and problem solving, developing a more structured and situation-oriented nursing education curriculum is needed.

  • As artificial intelligence gradually expands into jobs, iIt is necessary to nurture talents with AI literacy capabilities required for non-majors. Therefore, in this study, based on the necessity and current status of AI education, AI literacy competency improvement education was conducted for non-majors so that AI learning could be sustainable in relation to future majors. For non-majors at University D, problem-solving solutions through project-based data analysis and visualization were applied over 15 weeks, and the AI ability improvement and effectiveness of learners before and after education were analyzed and verified. As a result, it was possible to confirm a statistically significant level of positive change in the learners' data analysis and utilization ability, AI literacy ability, and AI self-efficacy. In particular, it not only improved the learners' ability to directly utilize public data to analyze and visualize it, but also improved their self-efficacy to solve problems by linking this with the use of AI.
