  • Objective: The aims of this study were 1) to develop easy-to-use rhythmic balance training equipment for the elderly and 2) to investigate the effect of training with the equipment on balance and physical function. Method: Twenty-one elderly individuals (age: $75.4{\pm}3.34yrs$, height: $152.07{\pm}4.81cm$, weight: $58.35{\pm}8.34kg$) participated in this study. Each participant underwent balance and physical function testing before and after 12 weeks of training with the equipment. Y-balance (i.e. dynamic balance) and one leg static balance tests were used for balance testing, and timed up- and-down-stairs and five times sit-to-stand tests were used for physical function testing. A paired t test was used to determine whether there was a significant pre- and post-training difference. Results: The rhythmic balance training equipment provided a fun and motivating training program with age-friendly music, dance movements for lower extremity strength training, and touch screen controls with simple features. Post-training left foot dynamic balance was significantly greater (p<.05), and static balance with eyes open was significantly improved (p<.05) compared to pre-training. Completion of the timed up-and-down-stairs and the five times sit-to-stand tests was significantly shorter (p<.05) compared to pre-training. Conclusion: Training using the equipment developed in this study improved balance and physical function in elderly participants.

  • Recently policies and studies on career development education for college students have attracted policy makers' and scholars' attention. However, no specific policy is there for college student-athletes in Korea. There are several reasons why such career education do not exist. Among those, the biggest reason seems to be the fact that there is no specific career education contents for the population of college student-athletes. The purposes of the study are to identity the needs of career education contents for college student-athletes and to come up with educational contents for 16-week one-hour credit class. The data for the study were generated from six experts in college sport, sport psychology, and career education. The experts participated three meetings from which they generated the structure of the career education classes, the contents of the classes and 16-week class curriculum.

  • The purpose of this study was to find spectator's value cognition and expected-benefit factors on professional baseball sportstar. Purposeful Sampling method was used to select among fan club leaders and people who had watched baseball games over ten years 8 informants who watched more than 4 times in 6 baseball games in 2011 Lotte Card Professional Baseball League. Data collection relies on focus group interviews and in-depth interviews. Text analysis was attempted to adopt the A-R-C needs theory proposed by Thomson(2006) for spectator's value cognition and the metaphors for consuming by Holt(1995) for expected-benefit factors. The research summary is as follow: Spectator's value cognition on professional baseball sportstar were an object of entertainment-oriented value, a major figure for social relationship-oriented and an object of identical. Spectator's expected-benefit factors on professional baseball sports tar were confirmation of values and heroic orientation. Meanwhile, spectator who had entertainment-oriented value cognition on professional baseball sportstar expect heroic orientation, who recognize professional baseball sportstar a major figure for social relationship-oriented and an object of identical pursue confirmation of values.

  • The purpose of this study was 1) to investigate professional sports fans' perception of immigrants and changes of athletes' nationalities, and 2) to examine how the fans' perception affected the perception of changes of athletes' nationalities. Results indicated that first the fan showed a neutral attitude toward the immigrants. In the results of the regression analysis containing foreign athletes naturalized as Korean citizens as the dependent variable, independent variables (i.e., gender and acceptance) explained 39.1% and 38% of the dependent variable, respectively, within [naturalization positive]. Within [naturalization negative] female fan and exclusive perception of immigrants positively predicted the objection to changes of athletes' nationalities. Lastly, in the results of the regression analysis containing Korean athletes who naturalized as foreign citizens as the dependent variable, fans who were older and rated higher on exclusive perception of immigrants had more negative perception of the dependent variable. Female fans perceived changes of athletes nationalities as personal choice.

  • The purpose of this study was to criticize the sport culture of babyboom generation women in Korea society. In the traditional society with Confucianism dominating, women were told to walk in small strides with modesty, keep footsteps narrower than the size of foot and never run frivolously. But in the modern society, many middle aged women-babyboom generation who was born in 1955-1963 and the first generation was served high level education engaged to enjoy various physical activities. For this study, there is a important method to analysis through three oral history interviews. It can be seen the cultural context in the result of sport as a play, restricted P·E class, forced motive-a good motherhood, survival fitness and ready for later life. These results will can be founded as a reality of dynamic relations and provided implications about founding the important of women voice and creating important data for people who want to be engaged in sports as a physical activities.

  • Researcher has reviewed the diagnosis and strategies under the perspective of the Luhmann's system theory, and has concluded the following. The existing anti-doping communication has adopted a personalization strategy, in which the causes and responsibilities of doping is attributed to persons. Therefore, the problem-solving measures are all most the individual-centered such as detection, punishment, education to enlighten. Such a strategy is not only to simplify the doping phenomenon, which is a result of the complex entanglement of the interests of the sport system and its surroundings functional systems, to a result of the individual decision-making according to free will, but also to contribute to hiding of the internal and structural problems of systems through the self-reflection blocking of sport system and its surrounding systems, and to inactivate the anti-doping efforts by imposing demand which player or trainer can not easy accept. The effective strategy for combating doping should be conceptualized and executed in all levels of problems.

  • Because our country was currently carrying out of municipality, a local independent athletic policy was required. The purpose of this study was to identify what extent athletic budget apportioned from the government, and review how to allocate a reasonable budget for each local government. We investigated detailed current situation of policy through literature review. Based on the athletic budget of the central government, financial independence rate of local governments, the results of 2012 London Olympics, and etc, the conclusions are as follows. (1) It should be increased more the athletic budget of the government. In addition, it should be stopped that the proceeds generated from the sports business is supported in unrelated sports sector. (2) It should be supported by considering the financial independence rate of local government and local characteristics. (3) It should be supported by the different rate based on a fair assessment results of each sports group. (4) Sports for all aid projects should be transformed into quality-based aid increasing the actual value from quantity-based support. (5) It should establish the valid principles and standards that can be fair distribution of athletic finances.

  • Exercise is beneficial to the body in some ways. It is vital for people who have heart problems to perform exercise according to their condition. This paper describes how an Android platform can provide early warnings of fatigue during wushu exercise using Photoplethysmography (PPG) signals. Using the data from a micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) gyroscope to detect heart rate, this study contributes an algorithm to determine a user's fatigue during wushu exercise. It sends vibration messages to the user's smartphone device when the heart rate exceeds the limit or is too fast during exercise. The heart rate monitoring system in the app records heart rate data in real-time while exercising. A simple pulse sensor and Android app can be used to monitor heart rate. This plug-in sensor measures heart rate based on photoplethysmography (PPG) signals during exercise. Pulse sensors can be easily inserted into the fingertip of the user. An embedded microcontroller detects the heart rate by connecting a pulse sensor transmitted via Bluetooth to the smartphone. In order to measure the impact of physical activity on heart rate, Wushu System tests are conducted using various factors, such as age, exercise speed, and duration. During testing, the Android app was found to detect heart rate with an accuracy of 95.3% and to warn the user when their heart rate rises to an abnormal level.
