This paper is about the study on a newly developed small waterproofed 4-axis robot arm and the analysis of its kinematics and dynamics. The structure of robot arm is designed to have Pitch-Pitch-Pitch-Yaw joint motion for inspection using a camera on itself and the joint actuator driving capacity are selected and the joint actuators are designed and test for 10m waterproofness. The closed-form solution for the robot arm is derived through the forward and inverse kinematics analysis. Also, the dynamics model equation including the damping force due to the mechanical seal for waterproofness is derived using Newton-Euler method. Using derived dynamics equation, a sliding mode controller is designed to track the desired path of the developed robot arm, and its performance is verified through a simulation.

This paper presents an optimal design of magnetorheological (MR) fluid based mount (MR mount in short) which can be applicable to vibration control of diesel engine of ship. In this work, a mixed - mode including squeeze mode, flow mode and shear mode is proposed and designed. In order to determine actuating damping force of MR mount required for efficient vibration control, excitation force from diesel engine is analyzed. In this analysis, a model of V-type engine is considered and the relationship between velocity and pressure of gas in torque of the piston is derived. Subsequently, by integrating the field-dependent rheological properties of commercially available MR fluid with the excitation force an appropriate size of MR mount is designed. In addition, in order to achieve maximum actuating force with geometric constraints design optimization is undertaken using ANSYS software. Through the magnetic density analysis, optimal design parameters such as bottom gap and radius of coil are determined.
Recent observations by Hinode show weakly-attenuated coronal loop oscillations in the presence of background flow (Ofman & Wang 2008, A&A, 482, L9). We study the vertical kink oscillations in solar coronal loops, considering field aligned flows inside the loops as well as surrounding the loops environment. The two dimensional numerical model of straight slab is used to explore the excitation and attenuation of the impulsively triggered fast magnetosonic standing kink waves. A full set of time dependent ideal magnetohydrodynamics equations is solved numerically taking into account the value of flow of the order of observed flows detected by SOT/Hinode. We find that relaxing the assumption of the limited flows within the loops enhances the damping rate of the fundamental mode of the standing kink waves by 2 - 3 % as compared to flow pattern which is basically localized within the loops. We further notice that extending the flow pattern beyond the loop thickness also enhances the strength of the shock associated with slow magnetoacoustic waves, recognized as an addition feature detected in the numerical simulation. The wider out-flow pattern destroys the oscillation patterns early as compared to narrower flow pattern, in other words we can say that it affects the durability of the oscillation. However, for the typical coronal loops parameters we find that the observed durability periods of the SOT/Hinode observation can be achieved with an out-flow Gaussian patterns for which half-width is not greater than factor 2.0 of the loop-half-width. explain a possible relation between electric current structure and sigmoid observed in a preflare phase.

It is well known that flexible composite material propeller has superior radiation noise characteristics with outstanding damping effects. In this paper, three flexible composite material propellers were produced using compression molding process, and their hydrodynamic performances and radiation noise characteristics were measured. One propeller, C1, was made up from carbon/epoxy composite laminates, and the other two ones, G1 and G2, from glass/epoxy ones. Their fiber arrays were selected by the progressive damage structural analysis of propellers using composite material model MAT_162 (Composite_DMG_MSC) linked with LS-DYNA code. Carbon/epoxy and glass/epoxy composite specimen tests were performed, their damage mechanisms were figured out, and their parameters were calibrated by their progressive damage structural analysis according to their damage criteria.

In this paper, the hydroelastic behavior of a mat-type large floating structure is analyzed in time domain by using mode superposition method. The time-memory function is estimated by Fourier transforming the wave damping coefficients, which are computed by a higher-order boundary element method based on potential theory. Meanwhile, the structural response is obtained by time integrating the eigenmodes of the structure. Numerical examples are made for three test cases on the scaled model of a mat-type large floating structure ; weight pull-up case, weight drop case and weight moving case. In all three cases, the numerical results coincide well with experimental data.

In the design of a combat vehicle, various performances such as firepower, mobility and survivability, etc., should be considered. Furthermore, since these performances relate to each other, design framework which can treat an integrated system should be employed to design the combat vehicle. In this paper, we use empirical interior ballistic and 3D combat vehicle analyses for predicting firepower and mobility performances which are developed in previous study (1) integrated performance modeling. In firepower performance, pitch and roll angle by sequential firing are considered. In mobility performance, vertical acceleration after passing through a bump is regarded. However, since there are many design variables such as mass of vehicle, mass of suspension, spring and damping coefficient of suspension and tire, geometric variables of vehicle, etc., for firepower and mobility performance, we utilize analysis of variance and quality function deployment to reduce the number of design variables. Finally, integrated design optimization is carried out for integrated performance such as firepower and mobility.

In this stury, control performance of tuned mass damper (TMD) with torsional rigidity for an eccentric structure showing torsional responses is investigated. To this end, an eccentric structure subjected to earthquake excitation is used to evaluate the control performance of torsional TMD by varying installed location and torsional rigidity of TMD, To reduce computational time required for repetitive time history analysis of an example structure having non-proportional damping system due to TMD, an equivalent analytical model is used in this study. Torsional properties of TMD usually neglected in typical TMD are verified to be effective in reduction of torsional responses of the eccentric structure. In the case of eccentric structures, it has been seen that the center of a plane of a structure may not be optimal location of TMD.

The scale and nature of the recent earthquakes in the world and the related earthquake disaster index coerce the concerned community to become anxious about it. Therefore, it is crucial that seismic lateral load effect will be appropriately considered in structural design. Application of seismic isolation system stands as a consistent alternative against this hazard. The objective of the study is to evaluate the structural and economic feasibility of reinforced concrete (RC) buildings with base isolation located in medium risk seismic region. Linear and nonlinear dynamic analyses as well as linear static analysis under site-specific bi-directional seismic excitation have been carried out for both fixed based (FB) and base isolated (BI) buildings in the present study. The superstructure and base of buildings are modeled in a 3D finite element model by consistent mass approach having six degrees of freedom at each node. The floor slabs are simulated as rigid diaphragms. Lead rubber bearing (LRB) and High damping rubber bearing (HDRB) are used as isolation device. Change of structural behaviors and savings in construction costing are evaluated. The study shows that for low to medium rise buildings, isolators can reduce muscular amount of base shears, base moments and floor accelerations for building at soft to medium stiff soil. Allowable higher horizontal displacement induces structural flexibility. Though incorporating isolator increases the outlay, overall structural cost may be reduced. The application of base isolation system confirms a potential to be used as a viable solution in economic building design.

The sloshing is very important in a safe transport of the liquid cargo by a ship. With the increasing number of supertanker and LNG carriers, this problem has become increasingly more important. In order to study the magnitude and characteristics of impact pressures due to sloshing, experiments ware performed with a rectangular tank and compared with numerical results. Structural responses of tank wall under impulsive pressures were measured. Structural vibrations induced by the sloshing load were analysed by including hydroelastic erects in terms of added mass and damping. To check the validity of the numerical model, the natural frequencies of plate in air and water were compared with measurements, and a good agreement was found. In the case that a plate vibrates under impulsive loads, the pressure on the flexible plate is larger than that on the rigid plate without hydroelastic effects, which was confirmed experimentally. The frequency of oscillatory pressure as well as accel%pion coincides with the natural frequency of plate in water.

A nonlinear time-domain system identification algorithm using measured acceleration data is developed for structural damage assessment. To take account of nonlinear behavior of structural systems, an output error between measured and computed acceleration increments has been defined and a constrained nonlinear optimization problem is solved for optimal structural parameters. The algorithm estimates time-varying properties of stiffness and damping parameters. Nonlinear response of restoring force of a structural system is recovered by using the estimated time-varying structural properties and computed displacement by Newmark-$\beta$ method. In the recovery, no pre-defined model for inelastic behavior has been assumed. In developing the algorithm, noise and incomplete measurement in space and state have been considered. To examine the developed algorithm, numerical simulation and laboratory experimental studies on a three-story shear building have been carried out.
