  • In order to analyze the vibration control effect of viscous damper in the concrete archaized buildings with lintel-column joints under seismic action, 3 specimens were tested under dynamic excitation. Two specimens with viscous damper were defined as the controlled component and one specimen without viscous damper was specified as the non-controlled component. The loading process and failure patterns were obtained from the test results. The failure characteristics, skeleton curves and mechanical behavior such as the load-displacement hysteretic loops, load carrying capacity, degradation of strength and rigidity, ductility and energy dissipation of the joints were analyzed. The results indicate that the load-bearing capacity of the controlled component is significantly higher than that of the non-controlled component. The former component has an average increase of 27.4% in yield load and 22.4% in ultimate load, respectively. Meanwhile, the performance of displacement ductility and the ability of energy dissipation for the controlled component are superior to those of the non-controlled component as well. Compared with non-controlled component, equivalent viscous damping coefficients are improved by 27.3%-30.8%, the average increase is 29.0% at ultimate load for controlled component. All these results reflect that the seismic performance of the controlled component is significantly better than that of the non-controlled component. These researches are helpful for practical application of viscous damper in the concrete archaizing buildings with lintel-column joints.

  • To reduce the vibration of cable-stayed bridges, conventional magnetorheological (MR) damper control system (CMRDS), with separate power supply, sensors and controllers, is widely investigated. In this paper, to improve the reliability and performance of the control system, one adaptive MR damper control system (AMRDS) consisting of MR damper and piezoelectric energy harvester (PEH) is proposed. According to piezoelectric effect, PEH can produce energy for powering MR damper. The energy is proportional to the product of the cable displacement and velocity. Due to the damping force changing with the energy, the new system can be adjustable to reduce the cable vibration. Compared with CMRDS, the new system is structurally simplified, replacing external sensor, power supply and controller with PEH. In the paper, taking the N26 cable of Shandong Binzhou Yellow River Bridge as example, the design method for the whole AMRDS is given, and simple formulas for PEH are derived. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed adaptive control system, the performance is compared with active control case and simple Bang-Bang semi-active control case. It is shown that AMRDS is better than simple Bang-Bang semi-active control case, and still needed to be improved in comparison with active control case.

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate the cyclic behavior of the D-shaped dampers (DSD). Similarly, at first, the numerical model was calibrated using the experimental sample. Then, parametric studies were conducted in order to investigate the effect of the radius and thickness of the damper on energy dissipation, effective and elastic stiffness, ultimate strength, and equivalent viscous damping ratio (EVDR). An analytical equation for the elastic stiffness of the DSD was also proposed, which showed good agreement with experimental results. Additionally, approximate equations were introduced to calculate the elastic and effective stiffness, ultimate strength, and energy dissipation. These equations were presented according to the curve fitting technique and based on numerical results. The results indicated that reducing the radius and increasing the thickness led to increased energy dissipation, effective stiffness, and ultimate strength of the damper. On the other hand, increasing the radius and thickness resulted in an increase in EVDR. Moreover, the ratio of effective stiffness to elastic stiffness also played a crucial role in increasing the EVDR. The thickness and radius of the damper were evaluated as the most effective dimensions for reducing energy dissipation and EVDR.

  • Spacer dampers maintain the constant gaps between each conductor in a bundle conductor-transmission line, and are installed at proper intervals to keep a line from all sorts of damages derived from the vibration energy caused by mechanical or electrical external factors. It is most important to embody a technology which considers difficulties of maintenance and repair, and has optimum elements in order to prevent accidents such as destruction by fire or the snapping of a wire by the effect of vibration phenomenon coming from transmission lint In the resent thesis, therefore, the analysis of vibratory characteristics of spacer damper is set up by analytical methods such as the analysis of conductor motion's governing equation, the equation of spacer damper's motion, spacer damper-fastened wire's motion in a span and the numerical analysis of finite difference method. Furthermore, the installation distance between spacer dampers was scrutinized by simulations of various vibration phenomena which change at any time as actual conditions do, and hereafter difference method. Furthermore, the installation distance between spacer dampers was scrutinized by simulations of various vibration phenomena which change at any time as actual conditions do, and hereafter we will be able to analyze all kinds of vibration phenomena coming from a boltless spacer damper with 6 bundle conductor for 765kV transmission line based on new analytical methods.

  • The main objective of this study is to observe the effect of visco-elastic damper on seismic behavior of structure. A small shaking table was designed and manufactured using the materials and machinery available in the market by the authors. Also, two small-scale models with and without visco-elastic dampers were made. Dynamic characteristics, such as natural periods and damping ratios, were measured with free vibration tests. Finally, the earthquake simulations tests by using this shaking table were performed to these models. Based on the test results, the effect of visco-elastic damper on the seismic response of models is evaluated.

  • The effect of recirculated exhaust gas on performance and exhaust emissions with FGR rate are investigated by using a natural circulation, pressurized draft and water tube boiler with FGR system operating at several boiler loads and over fire air(OFA) damper openings. The purpose of this study is to apply the FGR system to a power plant boiler for reducing $NO_{x}$ emissions. To activate the combustion, the suction damper of two stage combustion system installed in the upper side of wind box is opened by handling the lever between $0^{\circ}$ and $90^{\circ}$ , and the OFA with 0 to 20% into the flame is supplied, as the combustion air supplied to burner is reduced. It is found that the fuel consumption rate divided by evaporation rate does not show an obvious tendency to increase or decrease with rising the FOR rate, and $NO_{x}$ emissions are decreased, at the same OF A damper opening, as FOR rates are elevated and boiler loads are dropped.

  • A practical implementation method of squeeze-film aeroelastic disk vibration damping and its practical design performance are presented to provide a solution method to meet the tight TMR(Track Mis-Registration) design budget of high-TPI HDDs. Most previous research results are mainly based on the component-level study in the 'open-cover state' which is far from the realistic operation HDD condition. In this study, the squeeze-film disk damping effect is widely investigated under the realistic drive-level condition of 'enclosed-cover state.' It is found that the proper aeroelastic gap(s) between disk(s) and adjacent surface(s) to give significant vibration reduction in the enclosed HDD operating conditions can be achieved not only by classical well-known squeeze-film damping gaps such as very small 0.0x-millimeter level gaps which are not practically implementable in mass-production HDDs, but also by a few 0.x millimeter which is possible for designing realistic HDD design. The various experimental results including drive-level PES are also presented to prove feasibility of the optimal disk damper design for 93kTPI HDDs.

  • Attempts have been applied to reduce the vibration of slab. There are several method in the vibration control of slab from a traditional method such as increment of mass or stiffness of slab to a innovative method augmenting damping of slab. In this study, a attempt has been made to increase the effective damping in slab using the Multi Tuned Mass Damper. we evaluate the reduction effect of the slab selected through numerical simulation and optimization process by applying it to a FEM model. The numerical simulation shows that the effective damping is increased as the number of bean is increased and the vibration control effect is very high.
