  • The esophageal cyst result from a wrong cleavage of the primitive gut in the 4 weeks embryo. In embryo and after seperation of the tracheal diverticulum, the esophagus is lined with ciliated cells which are able cover a "cystic duplication". It is often difficult to distinguish between the bronchogenic and the esophageal cyst. Pathological findings showed the presence of a ciliated epithelium without cartilage which was diagnosed as an esophageal cyst. The patient was 21 year old man for evaluation of the cyst in the posterior mediastinum. The cyst was located the intramural esophagus. Microscopically, the cyst was lined with ciliated columnar epithelium and there was no evidence of cartilage. The cyst was confirmed as the intramural esophageal cyst.geal cyst.

  • A pulmonary keratinizing cyst was found incidentally in a 30-week-old female Sprague-Dawley rat. The cyst was lobe of the lung, lined by stratified squamous epithelium and filled with concentric layers of desquamated keratin. The wall consisted of 2-4 layers of well differenciated squamous cells. The adjacent lung tissues were slightly compressed but not otherwise damaged by the cyst. There was no inflammatory reaction or mitotic figures observed in the cyst.

  • The author has diagnosed and treated the dermold cyst patient in the 41 years old korean man. The dermold cyst in the floor of the mouth had various sign and symptom such as elevated tongue, disturbance of speech and swallowing, and etc. The cyst wall of dermoid cyst was enucleated by using of direct enucleation of cyst wall and primary suture technique. The mass of the enucleated dermoid cyst was 5×5.5×6 Cm.in size.

  • Esophageal duplication cysts are uncommon, benign lesions of the esophagus. They are rare congenital foregut anomalies. To be considered an esophageal duplication cyst, a lesion must meet the following criteria:1 the cyst in the esophageal wall 2 the cyst is covered with a muscularis propria, generally of two layers and 3 the cyst has an epithelial lining consistent with that of the 4 week embryo, which may be columnar or pseudostratified columnar, and may be ciliated. Herein we report a case of an esophageal cyst located within the thoracic cavity, which is, to the best of our knowledge, the first case reported in Korea. Surgery is generally the treatment of choice for esophageal cyst, and was indicated in this case for the diagnosis and management of symptoms attributable to the cyst.

  • Sacral meningeal cyst is usually asymtomatic, but may be responsible for sciatic pain syndromes and other clinical symptoms. Sacral meningeal cyst might be suspected when definite explanation for the clinical symptom, such as herniation of the intervertebral disc or spinal stenosis is not found. Plain films and CT may suggest the presence of sacral meningeal cyst, but MR is the current imaging study of choice. Evaluation of the correlation between the symptom and the cyst is as important as detection of it. We have experienced a case of sacral meningeal cyst detected during caudal epidural block. The patient complained of low back pain radiating to thigh. Plain films and lumbar spine CT showed no remarkable finding except disc bulging. During caudal epidural needle insertion, there was leakage of clear CSF, and intrasacral cystic shadow was visualized by dye injection. MR confirmed sacral meningeal cyst.

  • While syringomyelia is not a rare spinal disorder, syringomyelia associated with a spinal arachnoid cyst is very unusual. Here, we report a 62-year-old man who suffered from gait disturbance and numbness of bilateral lower extremities. Spinal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed the presence of a spinal arachnoid cyst between the 7th cervical and 3rd thoracic vertebral segment and syringomyelia extending between the 6th cervical and 1st thoracic vertebral segment. The cyst had compressed the spinal cord anteriorly. Syringomyelia usually results from lesions that partially obstruct cerebrospinal fluid flow. Therefore, we concluded that the spinal arachnoid cyst was causing the syringomyelia. After simple excision of the arachnoid cyst, the symptoms were relieved. A follow-up MRI demonstrated that the syringomyelia had significantly decreased in size after removal of the arachnoid cyst. This report presents an unusual case of gait disturbance caused by syringomyelia associated with a spinal arachnoid cyst.

  • An oral foregut cyst is a rare congenital choristoma lined by the respiratory and/or gastrointestinal epithelium. The exact etiology has not been fully identified, but it is thought to arise from misplaced primitive foregut. This lesion develops asymptomatically but sometimes causes difficulty in swallowing and pronunciation depending on its size. Thus, the first choice of treatment is surgical excision. Surgeons associated with head and neck pathology should include the oral foregut cyst in the differential diagnosis for ranula, dermoid cyst, thyroglossal duct cyst and lymphangioma in cases of pediatric head and neck lesions.

  • Spinal meningeal cyst of the sacrum is uncommon congenital lesion. We experienced two cases of sacral meningeal cyst, so called Tarlov's cyst, who presented with radiating pain. Magnetic resonance imaging is a highly effective way of locating and approximating the size of these entities, which generally appear as intraspinal masses of low intensity on T1-weighted and high intensity on T2-weighted images, similar to cerebrospinal fluid(CSF). We evaluated 2 patients who had Tarlov's cyst diagnosed with conventional MRI. The clinical features, radiological findings, gross appearances of the lesion at surgery, surgical technique, histopathological features of the cyst wall, and surgical outcome are described. We conclude that excellent result can be expected in the case of symptomatic Tarlov's cyst by surgical decompression.
