자동차 브레이크 미세먼지 포집을 위한 미니 사이클론의 난류모델에 따른 포집효율 변화 (Variation of Collection Efficiency with Turbulence Model in a Mini Cyclone for Collecting Automobile Brake Fine Dust)

  • Fine dust generated from vehicle brakes accounts for a significant amount of fine dust from non-exhaust system. Since such brake fine dust contains a large number of heavy metal components that are fatal to the human body, a device capable of collecting them needs to be developed. A mini cyclone, one of the devices that can effectively collect fine dust, has the advantage of relatively simple shape and high collection efficiency. Therefore, in this study, the collection efficiency of the mini-cyclone was numerically analyzed using CFD in order to find out whether such a mini-cyclone is suitable for collecting brake fine dust. As a result, the cut-off diameter was predicted to be about 1.5㎛, which means that the particle trapping load of the filter can be drastically reduced. Therefore, there is a possibility that the mini-cyclone can be used to collect fine dust from disc brakes.

Avoiding a Collision in Gamma Knife Radiosurgery : A Modified Mask Fixation Method

  • Objective : The latest version of the Leksell Gamma Knife IconTM allows for mask- and frame-based fixation. Although mask fixation provides fractionated treatment and immobilization using a noninvasive method, it is not free from collision. The authors investigated the collision problem with a modified mask fixation method. Methods : This study presents a case of two meningiomas in the frontal area, where a collision occurs in the occipital area. A modified mask fixation method was introduced to avoid the collision : first, the edges of the head cushion were cut off and polystyrene beads with a diameter of approximately 5 cm were removed. Next, the head cushion was sealed using a stapler. Finally, the head cushion was flattened in the adapter. We compared the shot coordinates, 3-dimensional (3D) error, clearance distance, and vertical depth of the head cushion between the initial and modified mask fixations. Results : When comparing the initial and modified mask fixations, the difference in the shot coordinates was +10.5 mm along the y-axis, the difference in the 3D error was approximately 18 mm, and the difference in clearance was -10.2 mm. The head cushion was approximately 8 mm deeper in the modified mask fixation. Conclusion : Based on these findings, we recommend a modified mask fixation method for gamma knife radiosurgery using ICON with a collision.

사질토 지반에 설치된 해상 버켓작업대의 모멘트 지지력 산정 (Evaluation of the Moment Bearing Capacity of Offshore Bucket Platforms in Sand)

  • 버켓작업대는 새롭게 개발되는 해상 구조물로서 교량기초 등의 시공을 위한 장비 및 인력의 임시 작업공간을 제공하는데 이용된다. 버켓작업대는 작업하중의 편심, 파도 및 바람의 수평하중 등에 의해 모멘트 하중이 작용한다. 그러므로, 본 연구에서는 3차원 유한요소 수치해석을 수행하여 버켓작업대의 모멘트 지지력을 산정하였다. 우선, 버켓에 대한 현장실험 결과와 비교하여 수치모델링의 적용성을 분석하였다. 그리고, 흙의 밀도, 버켓의 직경과 지중 근입깊이 등 다양한 조건에 대한 변수연구를 수행하였다. 지반조건은 균질한 사질토 조건을 적용하였으며 모멘트 하중은 지지대 상판의 중앙지점 회전각을 증가시켜면서 재하하였다. 모멘트-회전 해석결과로부터 모멘트 지지력을 산정한 결과 지지력이 버켓의 직경과 근입깊이에 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 최종적으로 해석결과를 종합하여 버켓작업대의 예비설계를 위한 모멘트 지지력 예측식을 제안하였다.

광섬유 융착 부위 중접용 미소 직경 복합재료 스프링 구조물 개발 (A Development of Small-diameter Composite Helical Spring Structure for Reinforcement of Fiber Splice)

  • 레이저 융착된 광섬유의 절단 부위에 대한 보호를 위한 관심이 크게 높아지고 있다 일반적으로 절단된 광섬유의 융착부분은 다른 부위에 비해 상대적으로 매우 취약하며 이러한 이유로 광섬유를 광 통신망에 사용할 때 동일 부분에서의 손실이 추가적으로 일어날 수 있다 일반적으로 광섬유 융착 부위는 일반 광섬유의 파괴 강도에 비해 약 1/10인 0.4~l kg로 감소된다. 이러한 이유로 인해 광 융착 부위의 보강이 절실히 요구되고 있다. 그러나, 이러한 구조물의 대부분이 철심 형태의 구조물을 삽입한 슬리브로 보강됨에 따라 굽힘에 대해 효과적으로 대응하지 못할 뿐 아니라 일단 구조물이 굽혀졌을 경우에는 지속적인 광 손실을 발생시키는 요인이 된다. 이러한 문제점을 보완하기 위하여 복합재료로 제작된 코일형 스프링 구조물 형태의 슬리브가 제안되었다. 이러한 슬리브는 기존의 슬리브의 취약점이었던 직하중에 대해 서로 효과적으로 반응할 뿐 아니라 굽힘 및 인장/압축 하중에도 효과가 있음을 알 수 있었다.

Electron transport properties of Y-type zigzag branched carbon nanotubes

  • The electron transport properties of Y-type zigzag branched carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are of great significance for micro and nano carbon-based electronic devices and their interconnection. Based on the semi-empirical method combining tight-binding density functional theory and non-equilibrium Green's function, the electron transport properties between the branches of Y-type zigzag branched CNT are studied. The results show that the drain-source current of semiconducting Y-type zigzag branched CNT (8, 0)-(4, 0)-(4, 0) is cut-off and not affected by the gate voltage in a bias voltage range [-0.5 V, 0.5 V]. The current presents a nonlinear change in a bias voltage range [-1.5 V, -0.5 V] and [0.5 V, 1.5 V]. The tangent slope of the current-voltage curve can be changed by the gate voltage to realize the regulation of the current. The regulation effect under negative bias voltage is more significant. For the larger diameter semiconducting Y-type zigzag branched CNT (10, 0)-(5, 0)-(5, 0), only the value of drain-source current increases due to the larger diameter. For metallic Y-type zigzag branched CNT (12, 0)-(6, 0)-(6, 0), the drain-source current presents a linear change in a bias voltage range [-1.5 V, 1.5 V] and is symmetrical about (0, 0). The slope of current-voltage line can be changed by the gate voltage to realize the regulation of the current. For three kinds of Y-type zigzag branched CNT with different diameters and different conductivity, the current-voltage curve trend changes from decline to rise when the branch of drain-source is exchanged. The current regulation effect of semiconducting Y-type zigzag branched CNT under negative bias voltage is also more significant.

Prognostic Role of Right VentricularPulmonary Artery Coupling Assessed by TAPSE/PASP Ratio in Patients With Acute Heart Failure

  • BACKGROUND: Right ventricular (RV) dysfunction is a significant risk of major adverse cardiac events in patients with acute heart failure (AHF). In this study, we evaluated RV-pulmonary artery (PA) coupling, assessed by tricuspid annular plane systolic excursion (TAPSE)/pulmonary artery systolic pressure (PASP) and assessed its prognostic significance, in AHF patients. METHODS: We measured the TAPSE/PASP ratio and analyzed its correlations with other echocardiographic parameters. Additionally, we assessed its prognostic role in AHF patients. RESULTS: A total of 1147 patients were included in the analysis (575 men, aged 70.81 ± 13.56 years). TAPSE/PASP ratio exhibited significant correlations with left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction(r = 0.243, p < 0.001), left atrial (LA) diameter(r = -0.320, p < 0.001), left atrial global longitudinal strain (LAGLS, r = 0.496, p < 0.001), mitral E/E' ratio(r = -0.337, p < 0.001), and right ventricular fractional area change (RVFAC, r = 0.496, p < 0.001). During the median follow-up duration of 29.0 months, a total of 387 patients (33.7%) died. In the univariate analysis, PASP, TAPSE, and TAPSE/PASP ratio were significant predictors of mortality. After the multivariate analysis, TAPSE/PASP ratio remained a statistically significant parameter for all-cause mortality (hazard ratio [HR], 0.453; p = 0.037) after adjusting for other parameters. In the receiver operating curve analysis, the optimal cut-off level of TAPSE/PASP ratio for predicting mortality was 0.33 (area under the curve = 0.576, p < 0.001), with a sensitivity of 65% and a specificity of 47%. TAPSE/PASP ratio < 0.33 was associated with an increased risk of mortality after adjusting for other variables (HR, 1.306; p = 0.025). CONCLUSIONS: In AHF patients, TAPSE/PASP ratio demonstrated significant associations with RVFAC, LA diameter and LAGLS. Moreover, a decreased TAPSE/PASP ratio < 0.33 was identified as a poor prognostic factor for mortality.

인산염 피막처리 분말을 사용한 Fe-6.0 wt%Si 합금 압분자심의 자기적 특성 (Magnetic Properties of Fe-6.0 wt%Si Alloy Dust Cores Prepared with Phosphate-coated Powders)

  • 가스분무법으로 제조한 $35\~180\;{\mu}m$ 크기의 $Fe-6.0wt\%Si$ 합금분말에 대하여 인산염계 절연물질을 피막처리하고 $600\~900^{\circ}C$에서 1시간 동안 열처리한 후 압축성형한 압분자심(분말코아)의 자기적 성질 및 기계적 특성을 조사하였다. 대체적으로 열처리온도가 증가할수록 압축강도가 감소하였으며, 자심손실 또한 낮아졌다. $800^{\circ}C$에서 열처리한 경우 압축성형강도가 15 kgf, 100 kHz에서 실효투자율은 74, 품질계수는 26, 50 Oe의 직류자장 하에서 퍼센트투자율은 78 정도의 값을 나타내었으며, 50 kHz-0.1 T에서 자심손실은 $750\;mW/cm^3$였다. 그리고 투자율-주파수 곡선 상에서의 cut-off 주파수는 거의 200 kHz 이상에 이르는 것으로 나타났다. $Fe-6.0wt\%Si$ 합금 압분자심의 이러한 제반 특성은 인산염 피막의 양호한 전기절연효과와, 고규소농도에 따른 합금의 결정자기이방성 및 포화자기변형의 감소, 전기비저항의 증대 등 기초 물성의 변화에 기인하는 것으로 사료되었다.

Count of platelet and mean platelet volume score: serologic prognostic factor in patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma

  • Objectives: TNM staging, especially for lymph node metastasis, is the scoring system most widely used among prognostic factors for cancer survival. Several biomarkers have been studied as serologic markers, but their specificity is low and clinical applications are difficult. This study aimed to establish a scoring system for patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) using platelet (PLT) and mean platelet volume (MPV) levels measured postoperatively and to evaluate their significance as prognostic factors. Materials and Methods: We studied 40 patients admitted to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of Dankook University Hospital who were diagnosed with primary OSCC histopathologically between May 2006 and May 2012. Clinical pathological information obtained from the medical records of each patient included age, sex, height, weight, tumor location, degree of differentiation, tumor diameter, lymph node metastasis, TNM stage, and other test values including white blood cell, MPV, PLT, C-reactive protein (CRP), and albumin obtained through a test conducted within 7 days before surgery. Count of platelet (COP)-MPV Score: Patients with both PLT and MPV values below the cut-off values were defined as score 0 (group A). Patients with at least one of the two higher than the cut-off value were defined as score 1 (group B). Results: Univariate analyses showed N-metastasis, COP-MPV (A vs B), PLT, platelet-lymphocyte ratio, and CRP were statistically significant prognostic factors. A multivariate Cox proportional hazards model showed N-metastasis (hazard ratio [HR] 6.227, P=0.016) and COP-MPV (A vs B) (HR 18.992, P=0.013) were independent prognostic factors with a significant effect on survival. Conclusion: COP-MPV score is a simple and cost-effective test method and is considered a more effective prognostic factor than other considered factors in predicting the prognosis of OSCC patients.

토양세척공정을 이용한 군사격장 납 오염토양의 제거특성 (Removal Characteristics of Lead-contaminated Soil at Military Shooting Range by Using Soil Washing Process)

  • 토양 세척공정을 이용한 창원시 군사격장 내 납(Pb) 오염토양의 물리 화학적 특성을 분석하였으며, 토양 세척인자(세척제(HCl) 농도(0.001, 0.01, 0.1, 0.2 N), 진탕비(1 : 2, 1 : 3, 1 : 4, 1 : 5), 오염토양 입경 4~0.075 mm, 세척시간(5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 60, 120분) 등)에 따른 오염토양 중 납의 제거특성을 평가하였다. 세척제 농도에 따른 제거효율은 세척제의 농도가 증가할수록 높게 나타났다. 이 중 세척시간 15분에서 납(Pb)제거효율은 56.3%로 0.1 N 염산(HCl)이 실제 토양 세척공정에 적용 가능한 최적의 농도로 나타났으며, 토양과 세척제의 진탕비가 1 : 2에서 1 : 5로 증가할수록 제거효율은 높아지는 경향을 보였지만, 진탕비가 높아질수록 토양 세척설비의 규모 증대로 인한 경제적 측면을 고려해 볼 때 최적의 진탕비는 1 : 3으로 생각된다. 세척시간 20분까지 납 제거효율은 75.3%까지 증가하다가 이후 유사한 경향을 보여 최적의 세척시간은 20분으로 판단된다. 토양 입경 0.075 mm 이상의 입경에서 납 제거효율은 77.0~82.0%의 범위를 나타내었으나, 입경 0.075 mm 이하의 경우 52.8%로 감소하였다. 오염토양의 입경별 제거효율은 0.075 mm 이상의 입경에서는 높은 제거효율을 나타낸 반면에 0.075 mm 이하의 입경에서는 제거효율이 현저히 감소되어 컷오프(cut-off) 크기는 0.075 mm가 적절할 것으로 기대된다. 토양 세척공정에 초음파 발생장치를 적용한 제거효율 평가 결과, 입경 0.075 mm 이상에서 물세척 및 염산의 단독세척보다 염산과 초음파의 동시 세척방법이 가장 높은 납 추출율을 나타내었다.

단심실 -III C Solitus 형의 수술치험- (Surgical Repair of Single Ventricle (Type III C solitus))

  • For years, physicians and anatomists have been interested in the heart that has one functioning ventricle. Various terms have been suggested for this entity including single ventricle, common ventricle, double-inlet left ventricle, cor biatriatum triloculare, and primitive ventricle. In this report, the term "single ventricle" is utilized as suggested by Van Praagh, and is defined as that congenital cardiac anomaly in which a common or separate atrioventricular valves open into a ventricular chamber from which both great arterial trunks emerge. An outlet chamber, or infundibulum, may or may not be present and give rise to the origin of either of the great arteries. This definition excludes the entity of mitral and tricuspid atresia. An 11 year old cyanotic boy was admitted chief complaints of exertional dyspnea and frequent upper respiratory infection since 2 weeks after birth. He was diagnosed as inoperable cyanotic congenital heart disease, and remained without any corrective treatment up to his age of 11 year when he suffered from aggravation of symptoms and signs of congestive heart failure for 2 months before this admission. On 22nd of May 1979, he was admitted for total corrective operation under the impression of tricuspid atresia suggested by a pediatrician. Physical check revealed deep cyanosis with finger and toe clubbing, and grade V systolic ejection murmur with single second heart sound was audible at the left 3rd intercostal space. Development was moderate in height [135 cm] and weight[28Kg]. Routine lab findings were normal except increased hemoglobin [21.1gm%], hematocrit [64 %], and left axis deviation with left ventricular hypertrophy on EKG. Cardiac catheterization and angiography revealed 1-transposition of aorta, pulmonic valvular stenosis, double inlet of a single ventricle with d-loop, and normal atriovisceral relationship [Type III C solitus according to the classification of Van Praagh]. At operation, longitudinal incision at the outflow tract of right ventricle in between the right coronary artery and its branch [LAD from RCA] revealed high far anterior aortic valve which had fibrous continuity with mitral annulus, and pulmonic valve was stenotic up to 4 mm in diameter positioned posterolaterally to the aorta. Ventricular septum was totally defective, and one markedly hypertrophied moderator band originated from crista supraventricularis was connected down to the imaginary septum of the ventricular cavity as a pseudoseptum of the ventricle. Size of the defect was 3X3 cm2 in total. Patch closure of the defect with a Teflon felt of 3.5 x 4 cm2 was done with interrupted multiple sutures after cut off of the moderator band, which was resutured to the artificial septum after reconstruction of the ventricular septum. Pulmonic valvotomy was done from 4 mm to 11 mm in diameter thru another pulmonary arteriotomy incision, and right ventriculotomy wound was closed reconstructing the right ventricular outflow tract with pericardial autograft of 3 x 4 cm2. Atrial septal defect of 2 cm in diameter was closed with 3-0 Erdeck suture, and atrial wall was sutured also when rectal temperature reached from 24`C to 35.5`C. Complete A-V block was managed with temporary external pacemaker with a pacing rate of 110/min. thru myocardial wire, and arterial blood pressure of 80/50 mmHg was maintained with Isuprel or Dopamine dripping under the CVP of 25-cm saline. Consciousness was recovered one hour after the operation when his blood pressure reached 100 /70 mmHg, but vital signs were not stable, and bleeding from the pericardial drainage and complete anuria were persisted until his heart could not capture the pacemaker impulse, and patient died of low output syndrome 320 min after the operation.
