Objectives: To investigate the association between psychological distress and obesity among law enforcement officers (LEOs) in the United States. Methods: Self-reported data on psychological distress based on six key questions were obtained from LEOs who participated in the National Health Interview Survey (2004-2010). We used Prochaska's cut-point of a Kessler 6 score ${\geq}5$ for moderate/high mental distress in our analysis. Mean levels of body mass index (BMI) were compared across three levels of psychological distress. Results: The average age of LEOs (n = 929) was 39.3 years; 25% were female. Overall, 8.1% of LEOs had moderate or high psychological distress; 37.5% were obese (BMI ${\geq}30$). Mean BMI increased with increasing psychological distress (no distress, BMI = $27.2kg/m^2$; mild distress, $27.6kg/m^2$; and moderate/high distress, $33.1kg/m^2$; p = 0.016) after adjustment for age, race, income, and education level among female officers only. Physical activity modified the association between psychological distress and BMI but only among male LEOs (interaction p = 0.002). Among male LEOs reporting low physical activity, psychological distress was positively associated with BMI ($30.3kg/m^2$ for no distress, 30.7 for mild distress, 31.8 for moderate/high distress; p = 0.179) after adjustment, but not significantly. This association was not significant among males reporting high physical activity. Conclusion: Mean BMI significantly increased as psychological distress increased among female LEOs. A longitudinal study design may reveal the directionality of this association as well as the potential role that physical activity might play in this association.
Since the previous cut-and-try design algorithm requires much cost and time, the automated design technique with the CFD and optimum design algorithm has recently been concerned. In this work, the Navier-Stokes equation was solved to gain more detailed viscous flow information of cascade with rotor-stator interactions. The H-grid embedded by O-grid was generated to obtain more accurate solution by eliminating the branch cut of H-grid near airfoil surface. To handle the relative motion of the rotor to the stationary stator, the sliding multiblock method was applied and the cubic-spline interpolation was used on the block interface boundary. To validate present procedure, the time-averaged aerodynamic loads were compared with experimeatal data. A good agreement was obtained. The Modified Method of Feasible Direction (MMFD) was used to carry out the sensitivity analysis of the change of aerodynamic performance by the changes of the cascade geometry. The present optimization of the cascade gave a dramatic reduction of the drag while the lift maintains at the value within the user-specified tolerance.
An unconstrained three-dimensional cutting problem describes the process of finding the cutting pattern that yields the maximum total profit-sum for the small parallelepipeds pieces cut from a large parallelepiped box and there is no limit to the number of pieces to be cut. The problem is a classic NP-hard. The bottom-up approach, which generates all of the feasible cutting patterns by combining two other cutting patterns, can be applied to the three-dimensional problem. We introduce a build and new branching strategies for the unconstrained three-dimensional cutting problem. The strategies are all generalized from the branching strategies proposed by G et at. to solve unconstrained two-dimensional cutting problems.
To improve nut production and timber quality in a plantation, crown shape controls were suggested for Korean white pines (Pinus koraiensis) under age class III through the analyses of the crown shape controls for seed orchard trees in several species, of crown status of controlled and uncontrolled trees in a Korean white pine seed orchard, and of growth characteristics of plantation trees under age class III. For nut production from the small trees less than 8 m, modified leader type can be applied by cutting the central leader and all branches below 1 m and keeping 4~5 nodes with 3~4 whorled branches a node locating 1 m apart. Trees with a 4~8 m long trunk below the first living branch are shaped into trees for nut and timber production, which have a 4~8 m long knotless stem and a modified leader type crown with 4~5 nodes with 3~4 whorled branches a node at a distance of 1 m. Trees, showing the first living branch at or above 9 m from the surface, are pruned severely for timber production and result in a central leader type containing two fifths of the initial crown. It is advisable to remove the leader and the branches when collecting cones or after/during October to take advantage of easy labor and little resin while cutting. After stem cut, branches showing apical dominance are to be cut to control height when necessary. The removal of the uppermost node may be needed to control the crown shape several years after the initial stem-cut.
Herbivory is an important selective forces on plants by reducing the ability of the plant to compete with its neighbors and to produce offspring. Oak nut weevil(Mechoris ursulus Roelofs) females lay eggs in unmatured acorns and cut off the branch of oviposited acorns. To investigate the influences of branch-cutting behavior of oak nut weevils on oak production, we surveyed the horizontal and vertical distribution ranges of damaged oaks and depth of sites of overwintering larvae and quantified the amounts of biomass and acorn removed by the weevils on deciduous oak species. All of the endemic oak species in Korea were damaged by oak nut weevils in all of the study sites including Mt. Halla and Mt. Seorak. The upper limit of vertical distribution of damaged oaks by the weevils raried from 700 m to 900 m. Mostly their larvae were found in soil from 8.1 cm to 10.0 cm depth in winter. Percentage of annual net primary productivity($720g{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}day^{-1}$) of oak species removed by the weevils was about 7%, which is higher than the percentage removed by all the herbivores in typical temperate forest(5%) and equivalent to that by all the herbivores in tropical forest. The predation percentage of annual acorn production by oak nut weevil was 27% in Q. mongolica and 33% in Q. acutissima. This results indicate that the branch-cutting behavior of oak nut weevil may be the most important factor regulating oak population and affecting other predators dependent on acorns.

Due to the increase of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and global warming, the importance of forest ecosystems, as a place of carbon accumulation and emission, has received a great amount of recognition lately. This study was performed to help understand and provide the current status of carbon cycle in the pinus densiflora stand, Korea. The samples were collected from average 35-years-old Pinus densifiora rands in Gongju, Youngdong, Chungsan, Muju, Mupung, and Jangsu regions. Total thirty aboveground sample trees were cut, and ten roots were sampled, and soil samples were collected. Average carbon concentrations in foliage, branch, stem bark, stem wood, and root were 55.7%, 56.0%, 56.0%, 57.3%, and 56.5%, respectively. Carbon content was estimated by the model $Wt=aD^b$ where Wt is oven-dry weight in kg and D is DBH in cm. Total carbon content (aboveground and root) was 42.39tonC/ha in the Pinus densiflora stand. The proportion of each tree component to total carbon content was high in order of stemwood, root, branch, stem bark, and foliage. Total net primary production (aboveground and root) was estimated at 6.51tonC/ha/yr in Pinus densiflora stand. The proportion of each tree component to total net primary carbon content was high in order of sternwood, root, branch, foliage and stembark. Soil carbon contents in the study sites was 43.51tonC/ha at 0-50cm soil depth.

Joint paths of master and branch pipes are induced mathematically for many kinds of joint patterns between both pipes in 3-axis pipe profile-cutting machines. By compensating them with a kerf width, the real cutting paths are determined, and their CL-data are generated, and the tool paths generated by CL-data are verified by a ghost function. A bevelling of welds is implemented through tilting a cutting torch in the $\beta$-axis direction for 8 sections in the chuck rotation of $\alpha$-axis. A PLC controls simultaneously position and velocity in a real time for $\alpha$, X, $\beta$-axis by loading CL-data generated. We developed the PLC-controlled 3-axis pipe profile-cutting system which can cut a master or branch pipe along the cutting path and simultaneously do a bevelling process.
The purpose of this experiment is to improve the ratio of female flower in Schizandra chinensis Baillon. The experiment was carried out in two purposes. One was to understand the development stages on bud formation and determining sex after bud formation by stage. The other was to investigate characteristics of flowers forming on spring when summer pruning was taken place in different cutting part and timing in S. chinensis Baillon. The outcome was that on 7th of June the flower bud was found next to leaf primordium in branch of this year and no changes were found in shape for two weeks by 26th July. On 26th of June, an ovule that forms organ was observed and then, an ovule was found after sex was determined on 6th of July. Second experiment was carried out to find out when the sex was determined by adapting different pruning methods; cutting the branch at 6th node on June 1, June 15, and July 1; cutting the branch at 10th node on June 15, and July 1. The result was that the re-growth ratio on the branch 6th node was cut on June 1 and June 15. July 1 was 34-56% and, however, the number of setting flowers and mail flowers were fewer than the normal branches. More over, even though the re-growth ratio of branches were 34-25% when the cutting was taken place at 10th node on June 15 and July 1, the number of setting flowers and mail flowers were the same as the non treated branch. As a result, it is assumed that cutting controlling in this plant to increase the number of female flowers has no effect.

Under the recognition that the technological system of traditional flower design in Korea has been passed down from the past to the present, we extracted the type of design form from the flower decoration of the Joseon Dynasty, analyzed the expression technique, and examined the relationship with the modern traditional flower decoration in this study. As a result, most of the flower design works of the Joseon Dynasty mainly expressed one focal point at the central starting point. One central branch line was mainly used, and cut leaves were mainly used as the base material. Similar to the Joseon Dynasty, one central starting point and a base made of leaves are mainly used In modern flower design. In the frequency of use by expression technique, the stem exposure technique was used the most, and cut flowers and cut stems were used at a similar frequency in all techniques. As plant materials, cut flowers and cut stems were mainly used. In addition, non-plant materials such as feathers, fans, and brushes were also used for decoration. In conclusion, it can be seen that traditional flower decorations in Korea were systematically established in the Joseon Dynasty in terms of expression techniques and high-level flower design works were made. In the future, it will be necessary to study the history of our flower designs in more diverse ways and to develop modern flower designs while preserving historical traditions.
In this paper, we consider the Location-Routing Problem with simultaneous pickup and delivery (LRPSPD) which is a general case of the location-routing problem. The LRPSPD is defined as finding locations of the depots and designing vehicle routes in such a way that pickup and delivery demands of each customer must be performed with same vehicle and the overall cost is minimized. Since the LRPSPD is an NP-hard problem, we propose a hybrid heuristic approach based on genetic algorithms (GA) and simulated annealing (SA) to solve the problem. To evaluate the performance of the proposed approach, we conduct an experimental study and compare its results with those obtained by a branch-and-cut algorithm on a set of instances derived from the literature. Computational results indicate that the proposed hybrid algorithm is able to find optimal or very good quality solutions in a reasonable computation time.
