A Study on the Factors Influencing the Abnormal Vibration of the Lateral Direction in Railway Vehicles Caused by Hysteresis of Critical Speed (임계속도 이력현상에 의한 철도차량 횡방향 이상 진동에 영향을 미치는 인자들에 관한 연구)

  • This research has been performed to reveal the hysteresis phenomena of the hunting motion in a railway passenger cars. It is found that there are some factors and its operation region to make the nonlinear critical speed reacts to them more sensitively than the linear critical speed. The simulation results show that a self steering bogie system can be a substitute proposal to improve curving Performance together with the reduction of hysteresis of critical speed. Full scale roller rig test is carried out for the validation of the numerical results. Finally, it is certified that wear of wheel profile and stiffness discontinuities of wheelset suspension caused by deterioration have to be considered in the analysis to predict the hysteresis of critical speed precisely.

  • The development of tilting train is required for speedup on the conventional electric railroad due to the characteristic of Korean railroad with a lot of curve track. The study and development of a tilting system and a tilting bogie which have a different mechanism with high speed train will playa important role for enhancement of technology for Korean railway. The study for tilting pantograph mechanism to decrease the displacement between a catenary and a center of pantograph happened when the carbody is tilted in order to maintain the ride comfort and stability on a curving track is proceeding with the development of tilting train. In this paper. we introduce the design concept for the tilting mechanism of a tilting pantograph and the role and characteristics for several devices adopted in the tilting pantograph mechanism. Through the kinematic analysis of tilting mechanism. we will obtain and calculate the optimal tilting angular velocity and acceleration in order to keep the contact behavior of a pantograph and a catenary according to tilting of a carbody.

  • For making a lead terminal(condenser, resistor etc.), it is the matter that lead wire have to be supplied smooth without twisting and curving when it is supplied to the further processing (cutting, forming, attach process) after it being forwarded. The purpose of this study is to solve the winding claims of lead wire through the structural expansion of winding equipment to which the improvement of packing equipment to forward safely and supply the lead wire and QFD method are applied. The results of this study is available to solve the technical problem caused by the installation of the existing flyer system for the prevention of twisting and can expect the quality assurance as it prevents the claim(surface fault) caused by the bumping among lead wire which are involved in the packing equipment in its moving stage.

  • The interference phenomenonof a dynamic crack propagation in a inclined DEN(double edge notched) specimen has been investigated by using the dynamic photoelasticity. One crack initiated by static loading is propagated dynamically and experiences a mixed mode condition(interference) as the crack approaches to the inclined edge notch. We use the overdeterministic least-square method to extract dynamic $K_{Id}$ K sub IId/and .sigma. $_{ox}$from the recorded dynamic photoelastic pattern surounding a running crack. The evaluated $K_{Id}$ $K_{IId}$and .sigma. $_{ox}$together with the crack propagation velocity estimate the dynamic crack interference phenomenonenonon

A Study on Appropriate Driving Speed for High-Speed Trains Running the Conventional Line (기존선을 통과하는 고속차량의 적절한 주행속도에 관한 연구)

  • KTX (Korea Train eXpress) is the first high-speed train operated in Korea and its highest speed reaches 300 km/h. Korean high-speed trains are mostly operated on the railroads exclusively designed for high-speed trains, but the sections of Seoul~Gwangmyeong, nearby of Daejeon station and Dongdaegu are operated on the existing tracks having the speed less than 150 km/h. With this paper, we'd like to analyze the lateral force that occurs between the wheels and the rail when high-speed trains were operated on the existing track section to suggest an appropriate driving speed for high-speed trains. As the rigid wheel base of the high-speed train is 3m which is about 50% longer than normal vehicles, it works as an advantage for high-speed driving. However, as the lateral force becomes higher than normal vehicles when driving on curves, plans to reduce wear-outs on the wheels are required.

Automatic Feedrate Adjustment for 2D Profile Milling (2차원 윤곽가공에서 이송률 자동 조정)

  • Proposed in this paper is a model-bated AFA (automatic feedrate-adjustment) method for maintaining smooth cutting-loads (i.e., cutting-force) during 2D-profile milling. Before the cutting-force model was established, some assumptions were verified through a series of preliminary cutting experiments (The results found that the curving-force was independent of the cutting speed and the cutting action at the cutter bosom). From the data obtained during the main cutting experiments, a “chip-load/cutting-force model”representing the cutting-force as a function of the chip-load (i.e., effective cutting-depth) and a feedrate is proposed. Based on the model. an AFA scheme for maintaining smooth cutting-force by adjusting the feedrate (i.e., F-code) according to the changes in chip-load was proposed. To check the validity of the proposed AFA scheme. another set of cutting experiments was conducted by using feedrate-adjusted NC-data while monitoring the actual machining processes using an accelerometer. The experimental results showed that the proposed AFA-scheme was quite effective.

  • A new dynamic balancing algorithm has been proposed to minimize the number of sensors necessary for the horizontal balancing of the mobile inverted pendulum while maintaining the same level of the commercial performance. The inverted pendulum technique is getting attention and there have been many researches on the Segway since the US inventor Dean Kamen commercialized. One of the major problems of the Segway is that many sensors are required for the control of the Segway, which results in the high price. In this research, a single gyro and a tilt sensor are fused to obtain the absolute tilt information, which is applied for the control of the mobile inverted pendulum. A dynamic balancing technique has been developed and applied for a robust control system against disturbances. The intelligent handling and stable curving of the Segway as a next generation mobile tool are verified with a human loading.

Comparison between test and simulation results of vibration for Korean High Speed Train (한국형 고속전철의 주행시험과 이론해석 결과의 비교분석)

  • Korean High Speed Train (KHST) has been tested on high speed line in JungBu site since it was developed in 2002. The KHST figured 7 cars was modeled for dynamic simulation with Vampire program. and the data acquisition system was used to test successfully the on-line test for proving the dynamic performance of KHST. The comparison between test and simulation results for dynamic behavior of KHST was tried in this paper and it was very difficult because the environmental conditions and running conditions have an effect on the test results and these conditions are unable to be modeled for dynamic analysis. Also the parameters for data acquisition system for test are usually not same to simulation conditions. Therefor, in this paper the acceleration data after filtering with low pass filter below 1Hz were used to compare between test and simulation results because the low frequency range is useful to evaluate the dynamic performance for railway vehicle system, so as steady state curving acceleration. The results show that both are similar in low frequency range.

  • Railway wheel/rail contact conditions have influences on dynamic behavior of the rolling stock. If there are incompatibility problems between the wheel and rail, damages like wheel wear, wheel spalling, rail wear, etc are occurred. Especially wheel and rail profiles are important factors of vehicle curving performance, so compatibility studies between wheel and rail profiles have to be carried out preferentially. In this study, we have studied the compatibility between wheel and rail profiles of KNR conventional line to analyze the dynamic performances of the rolling-stock. Thus we showed the results relating to wheel/rail geometric contact, vehicle running performances as the change of wheel/rail combination.

Estimation of Running Safety of Electric Multiple Unit for Express Train in Incheon International Airport Railway (인천국제공항철도 직통형 차량의 주행안전성 평가)

  • For the safety of railway, it should be evaluated for the running safety by measuring the derailment coefficient. Although railway has run the fixed and maintained rail, some of railway is derailed. This report shows the results that performed the static load test, wheelset manufacturing for test, main line running test on the basis of the derailment theory and experience. It is executed main line test to 120 km/h for estimating the running safety of express train in Incheon International Airport. As the test results, could confirm the curving performance and running safety of Incheon International Airport EMU from the results of the wheel unloading, lateral force, derailment coefficient etc. Derailment coefficient was less than 0.8, and lateral force allowance limit and wheel load reduction ratio were enough safe.
