  • Variability in Young Stellar Objects (YSOs) can be caused by time-dependent accretion rates, geometric changes in the circumstellar disks, the stochastic hydromagnetic interactions between stellar surfaces and inner disk edges, reconnections within the stellar magnetosphere, and hot/cold spots on stellar surfaces. We uncover ~1400 variables from a sample of ~5300 YSOs in nearby low-mass star-forming regions using mid-IR light curves obtained from the 5.5-years NEOWISE All Sky Survey. The mid-IR variability traces a wide range of dynamical, physical, and geometrical phenomenon. We classify six types of YSO variability based on their light curves: secular variability (Linear, Curved, Periodic) and stochastic variability (Burst, Drop, Irregular). YSOs in earlier evolutionary stages have higher fractions of variables at all types and higher amplitudes for the variability. Along with brightness variability, we also find a diverse range of secular color variations, which can be attributed to a competitive interplay between the variable accretion luminosity of the central source and the variable extinction by material associated with the accretion process. We compare the variability of known FUors/EXors and VeLLOs/LLSs, which represent two extreme ends (burst versus quiescent) of the episodic accretion process; FUors/EXors have a higher fraction of variables (65%) than VeLLOs/LLSs (41%). Short-term (few day) and long-term (decades) variability, as well as possible AGB contamination in the YSO catalogues, are also discussed.molecules become more complex by surface chemistry induced directly by high energy photons or by the thermal energy diffused over heated grain surface. • Flexible electronics are the electronics on flexible substrates such as a plastic, fabric or paper, so that they can be folded or attached on any curved surfaces. They are currently recognized as one of the most innovating future technologies especially in the area of portable electronics. The conventional vacuum deposition and photolithographic patterning methods are well developed for inorganic microelectronics. However, flexible polymer substrates are generally chemically incompatible with resists, etchants and developers and high temperature processes used in conventional integrated circuit processing. Additionally, conventional processes are time consuming, very expensive and not environmentally friendly. Therefore, there are strong needs for new materials and a novel processing scheme to realize flexible electronics. This paper introduces current research trends for flexible electronics based on (a) nanoparticles, and (b) novel processing schemes: nanomaterial based direct patterning methods to remove any conventional vacuum deposition and photolithography processes. Among the several unique nanomaterial characteristics, dramatic melting temperature depression (Tm, 3nm particle~$150^{\circ}C$) and strong light absorption can be exploited to reduce the processing temperature and to enhance the resolution. This opens a possibility of developing a cost effective, low temperature, high resolution and environmentally friendly approach in the high performance flexible electronics fabrication area.

  • In the present study, we conducted resistance test, propeller open water test and self-propulsion test for a ship's resistance and propulsion performance, using computational fluid dynamics techniques, where a Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations solver was employed. For convenience of mesh generation, unstructured meshes were used in the bow and stern region of a ship, where the hull shape is formed of delicate curved surfaces. On the other hand, structured meshes were generated for the middle part of the hull and the rest of the domain, i.e., the region of relatively simple geometry. To facilitate the rotating propeller for propeller open water test and self-propulsion test, a sliding mesh technique was adopted. Free-surface effects were included by employing the volume of fluid method for multi-phase flows. The computational results were validated by comparing with the existing experimental data.

  • Sophisticated modern research tools for evaluation of medicinal plants are available but microscopic methods are one of the simplest and cheapest methods to establish the identity of the source materials. Pharmacognostical investigation of the dried, powdered and anatomical sections of the fruits of Trachyspermum roxburghianum (DC) Craib was carried out to determine its macro and microscopical characteristics along with its physical constants. Externally, the fruits, yellowish or greenish brown in colour are elongated, elliptical, slightly curved, prominently ridged and longitudinal. As seen in transectional views of the fruits from Trachyspermum roxburghianum, the mericarp has concave sides called commissural surfaces and a convex outer side called the dorsal surface. The mericarp has three primary ridges alternating with two secondary ridges on the dorsal side. On the commissural side, there are two primary ridges which are lateral in position and two secondary ridges in the commissural side. The seed is attached to the pericarp by a short stalk called a raphe. Circular, four-lobed calcium oxalate crystals are fairly abundant in the endosperm. Phytochemical studies revealed the presence of phenolic compounds, triterpenoids, proteins and sugars. The pharmacognostical profile of the fruits will assist in standardization for quality, purity and sample identification.

  • A number of passive aerodynamic drag reduction methods were applied separately and then in different combinations on an intercity bus model, through wind tunnel studies on a 1:20 scale model of a Mercedes Benz Tourismo 15 RHD intercity bus. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling was also conducted in parallel to assist with flow visualisation. The commercial CFD package $CFX^{TM}$ was used. It has been found that dramatic reductions in coefficient of drag ($C_D$) of up to 70% can be achieved on the model using tapered and rounded top and side leading edges, and a truncated rear boat-tail. The curved front section allows the airflow to adhere to the bus surfaces for the full length of the vehicle, while the boat-tails reduce the size of the low pressure region at the base of the bus and more importantly, additional pressure recovery occurs and the base pressures rise, reducing drag. It is found that the CFD results show remarkable agreement with experimental results, both in the magnitude of the force coefficients as well as in their trends. An analysis shows that such a reduction in aerodynamic drag could lead to a significant 28% reduction in fuel consumption for a typical bus on intercity or interstate operation. This could translate to a massive dollar savings as well as significant emissions reductions across a fleet. On road tests are recommended.

  • Cartesian grid system has mainly been used in the casting simulation even though it does not nicely represent sloped and curved surfaces. These distorted boundaries cause several problems. A special treatment is necessary to clear these problems. In this paper, we propose a new method that can consider the cutting cells which are cut by casting and mold based on the partial cell treatment (PCT). This method provides a better representation of geometry surface and will be used in the computation of velocities that are defined on the cell boundaries in the Cartesian grid system. Various test examples for several casting process were computed and validated. The analysis results of more accurate fluid flow pattern and less momentum loss owing to the stepped boundaries in the Cartesian grid system were confirmed. By using the cut cell method, performance of computation gets better because of reducing the whole number of meshes.

  • The outer surface of an irregular structure contains panels with two-directional curvature called NURBS. To construct these forms of exterior materials, complex geometric surface should be divided into forms and sizes that can be manufactured and constructed. Because the bigger the curvatures of these divided exterior panel, the more expensive the construction costs, these complex two-directional curvatures should go through optimal process of reinterpretation to minimize the curved surfaces with complex two-directional curvatures. Yet, to gain higher ground in technological competition in the field of irregular structure construction, companies do not share know-how that they obtained. Accordingly, small construction and design companies have trouble calculating even rough estimate and cannot adjust expected construction cost based on comparison of design alternatives. Given this situation, this study conducted the research that can support decision-making in the design stage of the construction and provide basic material for optimal range to reduce manufacturing cost by the minimizing the distorted plane of the irregular structure.

  • In X-ray stress measurements for uni-directionally deformed surfaces such as grinding, a strongly curved $sin^2{\Psi} diagram, so called $\Psi-splitter, has been observed recently. It has been known that this is caused by the residual shear stress induced in the deformed layer by external forces. In this case it is necessary to consider this enough for ceramics and composite materials with tri-axial stress analysis. However, sufficient studies have not been done about the tri-axial stress analysis of the macro stress and micro. stress on each phase of the composite materials. The result of obtaining is as follows. 1. $\Psi-splitter does not appear in the vertical direction though $\Psi-splitter appears in grinding direction in WC-Co cemented carbides. The reversal of $\Psi-splitter to each phase does not appear. 2. $\Psi-splitter caused in WC-Co cemented carbides has a close relation in dislocation which accumulates in WC phase and phase transformation caused in Co phase. 3. The residual stress on the surface of grinding of each phase is in the state of the compression stress.
