  • This paper proposes an approach to control the current amplitude and phase simultaneously. To do this, variable structure control and adaptive parameter estimation arc applied to the current control of a single-phase PWM inverter with unknown R-L series load. The load parameters, R and L, are estimated by using the recursive least square method and these parameters are used to adjust the feedback gains of control input. The inverter system is modelled in a 2nd-order system by treating load current variation caused by inductive component as a disturbance. Simulation and experiment based on the 2nd -order model are done and the results show good dynamic response and low THD.

  • A new current control technique for inverter-fed vector controlled induction motor drives is presented. Using a integral variable structure control(IVSC) approach, the current controller is designed in the stationary rotating reference frame. The chattering reduction technique is also considered by the full state flux observer. By employing the proposed control scheme, a good control performance is achieved in the transient and steady state. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is demonstrated through the comparative simulations.

  • This paper describes the application of sliding mode control based on the variable structure control(VSC) concept for high-performance position control of an induction servo motor A design method based on external load parameters has been developed for the robust control of AC induction servo drive. Also, a slip frequency vector control with software current control technique has been adopted to achieve fast response of an induction motor drive The position control scheme is comprised of a variable structure controller and slip frequency vector control for inverter fed induction servo motor. Simulated results are given to verify the proposed design method by adoption of sliding mode and show robust control for a change of shaft inertia, viscous friction and torque disturbance.

  • Variable sampling rate(VSR) scheme varies the sampling rate for the current sample depending on the previous value of the control statistic. In this paper, we propose EWMA control charts with variable parameter(VP) scheme, which allows both the sample rate(the sample size or the sampling interval) and the weight to vary. We investigate the effectiveness of the VP scheme relative to the fixed parameter(FP) scheme and the VSR scheme in EWMA control charts. It is shown that using the VP scheme gives some improvements to the ability in detecting small and moderate shifts in the process normal mean.

  • This paper suggests a SRM control scheme driven by a variable voltage source. This scheme shows that it is unnecessary to introduce a switch to control dc-link voltage and to limit a phase current. And its vary easy to build-up flat-topped phase current which is advantageous to the high torque and efficiency drive of a SRM. Experimental tests are shown to verify this suggestion.

  • The main two drawbacks of the Sin91e Stage PFC (SS-PFC) converters employing a DCM Boost PFC cell are relatively high voltage stress on the bulk capacitor and the input current harmonic distortion. The high voltage stress on bulk capacitor makes the SS-PFC converter impractical in a universal input application and the input current harmonic distortion lowers power factor. In this paper a selective variable frequency control that reduces the voltage stress on the bulk capacitor and the input current harmonic distortion is proposed. Computer simulation results of the proposed control method are presented.

  • This study deals with on-line fault detection and diagnosis(FDD) for heat exchangers of a variable speed refrigeration system(VSRS) based on current information. The current residual which is the difference between real detected current from current sensors and estimated current from no fault model was utilized to diagnose faults of the heat exchangers. Comparing to the conventional FDD of constant refrigeration system based on temperature and pressure information, the suggested FDD method shows better robustness to the VSRS which has a feedback control loop. Moreover the suggested method can be expected more precise and faster diagnosis of faults about heat exchangers. Throughout some experiments, the validity of the method was verified.

  • Monolithic SiGe heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT) variable gain amplifiers (VGAs) with a feedforward configuration have been newly developed for 5 GHz applications. Two types of the feedforward VGAs have been made: one using a coupled-emitter resistor and the other using an HBT-based current source. At 5.2 GHz, both of the VGAs achieve a dynamic gain-control range of 23 dB with a control-voltage range from 0.4 to 2.6 V. The gain-tuning sensitivity is 90 mV/dB. At $V_{CTRL}$= 2.4 V, the 1 dB compression output power, $P_{1-dB}$, and dc bias current are 0 dBm and 59 mA in a VGA with an emitter resistor and -1.8 dBm and 71mA in a VGA with a constant current source, respectively.
