  • A PEMFC system model for FCEV was constructed and simulated numerically to examine the heat/water flow of the system and air/fuel humidification process for various operation conditions (ambient pressure /temperature/humidity, operating temperature, power load). We modeled PEMFC stack which can generate maximum electricity of about 80 kW. This stack consists of 400 unit cells and each unit cell has $250cm^2$ reacting area. Uniform current density and uniform operating voltage per each cell was assumed. The results show the flow characteristics of heat and water at each component of PEMFC system in macro-scale. The capacity shortage of the radiator occurred when the ambient was hot $(over\;40^{\circ}C)$ and power level was high (over 50 kW). In spite of some heat release by evaporation of water in stack, heat unbalance reached to 20kW approximately in such a severe operating condition. This heat unbalance could be recovered by auxiliary radiators or high speed cooling fan with additional cost. In cold environment, the capacity of radiator exceeded the net heat generation to be released, which may cause a problem to drop the operating temperature of stack. We dealt with this problem by regulating mass flow rate of coolant and radiator fan speed. Finally, water balance was not easily broken when we retrieved condensed and/or unused water.

  • This study proposes a DAB two-stage series structure with insulated bidirectional DC-DC converter for two-way power transfer between the renewable energy of high voltages (1 kV and above). The proposed circuit transforms the existing DAB converter into a two-stage series structure to reduce the pressure in the switch. The problem of power imbalance occurring in the design of the DAB converter second-stage series is improved by applying the cell balancing method circuit and the common mode coupled inductor using an external flying capacitor instead of reflecting the existing improvement measures, voltage balance control, and inductor current control. In addition, a no-load supercharging sequence is proposed in high voltages and high-speed switching by using the fixed duty output method. This study presents the analysis results through the structure of the proposed circuit, the principle of improving the power imbalance problem, and simulations. Prototypes were manufactured to meet the specifications of input/output voltage of 1700 V, maximum load of 65 kW, and switching frequency of 51kHz, and the validity of the topology was verified using the experimental results and efficiency data.

Motor control centers involves turning the motor on and off, it is configured electronic over current relay to detect a motor overcurrent flows. Existing electronic over current relay detects electrical fault such as overcurrent, undercurrent, phase sequence, negative sequence current, current unbalance and earth fault. However, it is difficult to detect mechanical fault such as locked rotor, motor stator and rotor and bearing fault. In this paper, we propose a condition monitoring and fault diagnosis system for electrical and mechanical fault detection of rotating machinery. The proposed system is designed with signal input and control part, system interface part and data acquisition board for condition monitoring and fault diagnosis, it was possible to detect electrical fault and mechanical fault through measurement and control of insulation resistance, locked rotor, MC counter and bearing temperature.

  • This paper tries to suggest reform proposals for the management policy of reported handicraft fisheries based on the intertidal - mudflat productivity. The paper started from the empirical analysis of the current situation of the handicraft fisheries around Seosan and Dangjin counties. The area of intertidal - mudflat around Seosan and Dangjin counties is approximately 855ha. The its ratio to the total areas in our country is 0.3%. By the way, the reported number of handicraft fisheries is 5,245, the ratio of which to the total number in our country is nearly 10.2%. The reason why there exists unbalance between the area of intertidal - mudflat and the reported number of handicraft fisheries is the political behavior of provincial governments. Therefore the paper tries to establish policy remedies focused on the confrontation against the opportunistic behaviors of provincial governments, such as the reform proposals for the Korea's fisheries act.

  • The voltage drop is important in electric railway for feeding a huge power of train on fixed feeding area. Nowadays it is tried to operate a high speed trains on conventional lines and there is problem on the voltage drop too. It is simulated on the conditions increased the turn ratio of trolley, installed autotransformer neutral line with variable taps. In result, it is compensated the voltage drop between ATs and better on last AT, not on the position of AT. And it is decreased a return current and neutral current of AT because of unbalance between trolley and feeder. It should be studied faster and more controllable the solid state switchs instead of the mechanical one in order to utilize this system.

  • A study of two phase chopper system with four separate groups of DC motors in powering. A novel two phase chopper system with four separate groups of DC motors which applies the principles of two phase chopper with two separate groups of DC motors is dealt with this article. The main circuit consists of eight sets of chopping parts, four diodes and four separate groups of DC motors. Four groups of DC motors are driven through the series and parallel connections to each other in accordance with the operating conditions of the choppers. Although the proposed chopper circuit requires more circuit elements than the conventional two phase chopper system with combined output or two phase chopper system with two separate groups of DC motors, it has the following advantages` (1). It is possible to drive twice as much motors as conventional system does, using esisting receiving-and equipments and motors. (2). It is possible to control load voltage continuously from 0 to source voltage by changing time-ratio from 0 to 1. (3). Load current division becomes equalized. Therefore it is possible to drive not only series motors but also shunt and separately exited motors. (4). When smoothing reactor L is small, harmonic components of the proposed circuit is not so large. Therefore, the value of L can be determined from viewpoints of allowable value of ripple-ratio and current unbalance factor.

  • In this paper, we designed Active Magnetic Bearing (AMB) for large scale Superconductor Flywheel Energy Storage System (SFESS) and PD controller for AMB. And we experimentally evaluated SFESS including hybrid type AMB. The radial AMB was designed to provide force slew rate that was sufficient for the unbalance disturbances at the maximum operating speed. The thrust AMB is a hybrid type where a permanent magnet carries the weight of the flywheel and an electromagnetic actuator generates the dynamic control force. We evaluated the design performance of the manufactured AMB through comparison of FEM analysis and the results of experimental force measurement. In order to obtain gains of PD controller and design a notch filter, the system identification was performed through measuring frequency response including dynamics for the AMBs, a power amp and a sensor using a sine swept test method after levitating the flywheel. Through measuring the current input of the AMBs and the orbit of a flywheel according to rotational speed, we verified excellent control performance of the AMBs with small amount current for the large scale SFESS.

  • The forces involved in the firing of the electromagnetic rail gun may be analyzed from Amperian, Maxwellian and Einsteinian approaches. This paper discusses these different paradigms with regard to rail gun performance modeling relating to the generation and balance of the forces caused by the currents and their induced magnetic fields. Recent experimental work on model rail guns, where the armature is held static, shows very little recoil upon the rails, thereby indicating a possible violation of Newton's Third Law of Motion. Dynamic testing to show this violation, as suggested by the authors in an earlier paper, has inherent technical difficulties. A purpose-built finite element C/C++ simulator that models that suspended rail gun firing action shows a net force acting upon the entire rail gun system. A new effect in physics, universal in scope, is thus indicated: a current circulating in an asymmetric and rigid circuit causes a net force to act upon the circuit for the duration of the current. This conclusion following from computer simulation based upon Maxwellian electrodynamics as opposed to the more modern relativistic quantum electrodynamics needs to be supported by unambiguous experimental validation.

  • A design methodology for transformers including integrated and center-tapped structures for LLC resonant converters is proposed. In the LLC resonant converter, the resonant inductor in the primary side can be merged in the transformer as a leakage inductance. And, the absence of the secondary filter inductor creates low voltage stress on the secondary rectifiers and is cost-effective. A center-tapped structure of the transformer secondary side is widely used in commercial applications because of its higher efficiency and lower cost than full-bridge structures in the rectifying stages. However, this transformer structure has problems of resonance imbalance and transformer inefficiency caused by leakage inductance imbalance in the secondary side and the position of the air-gap in the transformer, respectively. In this paper, gain curves and soft-switching conditions are derived by first harmonic approximation (FHA) and operating circuit simulation. In addition, the effects of the transformer including integrated and center-tapped structures are analyzed by new FHA models and simulations to obtain an optimal design. Finally, the effects of the air-gap position are analyzed by an electromagnetic field simulator. The proposed analysis and design are verified by experimental results with a 385W LLC resonant converter.

  • This paper presents CAN-based parallel-operation and load-sharing techniques for the communication server power supply. With the load information obtained through CAN communication, each modules performs its current control independently and the power unbalance caused by impedance differences of converter modules can be reduced. In conventional method, slave modules are controlled by master module. On the other hand, the proposed load share algorithm uses the Multi-Master method. Therefore, accurate load sharing can be accomplished by the reference structure of each module's average current. Each converter has two stages and it is separated into PFC, which is responsible for harmonic regulation, and LLC resonant converter, which controls output voltage. To verified the performance of the proposed method, two 2KW prototypes has been implemented and experimented.
