Bemisia tabaci Genn. is an important pest worldwide because of its ability to cause damage by direct feeding and its role as a vector of some viruses including geminiviruses. The first report of Tobacco leaf curl virus (TLCV), a Geminiviruses, in Indonesia was in 1932 when the virus was found infecting tobacco plants in Central Java. The characteristic symptoms of TLCV included upward curling of the leaf edge, vein thickening, and sometimes the occurrence of enation on the underside of the leaves. Basic studies were carried out to elucidate the characteristics of TLCV transmission by its vector, B. tabaci. A single whitefly was able to transmit the virus and the efficiency of transmission was increased when the number of adult whiteflies was increased up to 20 per plant. Inoculation access period of 1 h could cause transmission up to 20% and the optimum inoculation access period was 12 h. Acquisition access period of 30 minutes resulted in 70% transmission while 1(10% transmission occurred with a 24-h acqui-sition access period. The virus was proven to be persistently but not transovarially transmitted. Discrete fragments of 1.6 kb were observed when polymerase chain reaction method was applied to detect the virus in viruliferous nymphs and individual adults of B. tabaci, while no bands were obtained from non-viruliferous nymphs and adults.

Cotton leaf curl is devastating disease of cotton characterized by leaf curling, vein darkening and enations. The disease symptoms are induced by DNA satellite known as Cotton leaf curl Multan betasatellite (CLCuMuB), dominant betasatellite in cotton but another betasatellite known as Chili leaf curl betasatellite (ChLCB) is also found associated with the disease. Grafting experiment was performed to determine if host plant resistance is determinant of dominant population of betasatellite in cotton (several distinct strains of CLCuMuB are associated with the disease). Infected scion of Gossypium hirsutum collected from field (the source) was grafted on G. arboreum, a diploid cotton species, resistant to the disease. A healthy scion of G. hirsutum (sink) was grafted at the top of G. arboreum to determine the movement of virus/betasatellite to upper susceptible scion of G. hirsutum. Symptoms of disease appeared in the upper scion and presence of virus/betasatellite in the upper scion was confirmed via molecular techniques, showing that virus/betasatellite was able to move to upper scion through resistant G. arboreum. However, no symptoms appeared on G. arboreum. Betasatelites were cloned and sequenced from lower scion, upper scion and G. arboreum which show that the lower scion contained both CLCuMuB and ChLCB, however only ChLCB was found in G. arboreum. The upper scion contained CLCuMuB with a deletion of 78 nucleotides (nt) in the non-coding region between Arich sequence and ${\beta}C1$ gene and insertion of 27 nt in the middle of ${\beta}C1$ ORF. This study may help in investigating molecular basis of resistance in G. arboreum.
This study was conducted to develop the design methodology of gap slabs for the post-tensioned concrete pavement (PTCP). The gap slabs were considered as unbonded, half bonded, and bonded types. According to the types of the gap slabs, the curling stresses were investigated first under the environmental loads. The stresses due to the vehicle loads were analyzed considering both the single and tandem axles. The method to calculate the prestressing amount was suggested by comparing the combined stresses due to both loads and the allowable tensile stress of concrete. The prestressing amount for the unbonded type gap slab could be designed by considering only the gap slab; however, for the half bonded and bonded gap slabs, the whole PTCP slab should be analyzed to properly design the prestressing amount.
In this study, university students were allowed to wear the slacks varying the thigh circumference(slim/straight type) and crotch length(long, middle, short crotch type). Tightness and uncomfortability for each slacks were measured to be expressed 5point-likert type. The results can be summarized as follows: 1. At the research for measuring uncomfortability, measures of slim types and straight types of thigh circumference, crotch length B and C, and the body movement such as sitting down on the chair, sitting down with their body curling like a ball, and getting down on their knees were higher in slim types than in straight types. 2. Only crotch length C had different measures between these two types in tightness. 3. In uncomfortability, each of them had different measures among three kinds of crotch length and two types of thigh circumference had different measures among three kinds of crotch length. Four kinds of movement had different measures among three kinds of crotch length in uncomfortability. While uncomfortability of crotch length B was the highest one, that of crotch length A was the lowest one. 4. In tightness, each of them had different measures among three kinds of crotch length. While tightness of crotch length C was the highest one, that of crotch length A was the lowest one. Four kinds of movement had different measures among three kinds of crotch length in tightness.
Three types of virus disease symptoms were observed in azuki bean plants: yellow mosaic; mosaic; severe mosaic with dwarf. The symptoms developed in the indicator plant inoculated with a virus- infected leaf of azuki bean showed similar host range with those of AMV, CMV and AzMV. In antiserum response, yellow mosaic symptom formed sediments with AMV antiserum, mosaic type with CMV antiserum, respectively, From the electron microscope observation, eclliptic particle (18~58$\times$18nm), isometric particle (30nm), and filamentous(730$\times$12nm) combined with inclusion body were observed in yellow mosaic, mosaic, and severe mosaic with leaf curling symptoms, respectively, The results demonstrate that yellow mosaic, mosaic, and severe mosaic with dwarf are caused by AMV, CMV and AzMV.

Due to heavy computational cost, deformable object simulation requires more effective collision detection method than rigid body simulation. However, when the CPU-based collision detection algorithm is purely applied to the GPU environment, the collision detection algorithm and the data structure optimized for the GPU environment are essential because the performance of the GPU can not be used properly. Therefore, we propose a GPU-based parallel collision detection algorithm for mass-spring system which is widely used for deformable object representation in this paper. The proposed method uses a parallel algorithm and data structure to reduce collision detection cost through GPU-based curling algorithm using AABB-Octree structure. In this paper, we prove the effectiveness of the proposed method by comparing the intersection test of all triangle pairs in parallel. The results of experimental tests show that the proposed method improves the performance by about 24% on average. Therefore, it is expected that the proposed method can improve the performance of real-time simulation for deformable objects.
This research was conducted to analyze the behavior of Single-PTAS (Single Post-Tensioned Approach Slab) under tensioning and environmental loads by performing field tests when the demonstration Single-PTAS was being constructed. The temperature measurement sensors were installed at different depths, and the displacements in the approach slab under environmental loads and tensioning were measured using displacement transducers. As an experimental result, an abrupt change in the longitudinal displacement due to tensioning was not observed. The daily temperature change in the approach slab was negligible where the depth is over about 35cm. The temperature gradient in the approach slab adjacent to bridge was smaller than that adjacent to pavement. The patterns and magnitudes of vertical displacements were directly related to the temperature gradient at the measuring location. The behavior of Single-PTAS was very similar to that of concrete pavement. Therefore, a new design methodology for approach slabs is needed to include the pavement concept and to overcome drawback of current design procedures based on the simple beam concept.

Tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV), a member of the genus Begomovirus, is one of the most important viruses of cultivated tomatoes worldwide, mainly causing yellowing and curling of leaves with stunting in plants. TYLCV causes severe problems in sub-tropical and tropical countries, as well as in Korea. However, the mechanism of TYLCV infection remains unclear, although the function of each viral component has been identified. TYLCV C4 codes for a small protein involved in various cellular functions, including symptom determination, gene silencing, viral movement, and induction of the plant defense response. In this study, through yeast-two hybrid screenings, we identified TYLCV C4-interacting host proteins from both healthy and symptom-exhibiting tomato tissues, to determine the role of TYLCV C4 proteins in the infection processes. Comparative analyses of 28 proteins from healthy tissues and 36 from infected tissues showing interactions with TYLCV C4 indicated that TYLCV C4 mainly interacts with host proteins involved in translation, ubiquitination, and plant defense, and most interacting proteins differed between the two tissues but belong to similar molecular functional categories. Four proteins-two ribosomal proteins, S-adenosyl-L-homocysteine hydrolase, and 14-3-3 family protein-were detected in both tissues. Furthermore, the identified proteins in symptom-exhibiting tissues showed greater involvement in plant defenses. Some are key regulators, such as receptor-like kinases and pathogenesis-related proteins, of plant defenses. Thus, TYLCV C4 may contribute to the suppression of host defense during TYLCV infection and be involved in ubiquitination for viral infection.

On the other hand, the fiber orientation at the surface and middle layer of the sheet controls the bending stiffness of paperboard. Therefore, a reliable measurement of paper surface fiber orientation gives us a magnificent tool to investigate and predict paper curling and cockling tendency, and provides the necessary information to fine-tune the manufacturing process for optimum quality. Many papers, especially heavily calendered and coated grades, do resist liquid and gas penetration very much, being beyond the measurement range of the traditional instruments or resulting inconveniently long measuring time per sample. The increased surface hardness and use of filler minerals and mechanical pulp make a reliable, non-leaking sample contact to the measurement head a challenge of its own. Paper surface coating causes, as expected, a layer which has completely different permeability characteristics compared to the other layers of the sheet. The latest developments in sensor technologies have made it possible to reliably measure gas flow n well controlled conditions, allowing us to investigate the gas penetration of open structures, such as cigarette paper, tissue or sack paper, and in the low permeability range analyze even fully greaseproof papers, silicon papers, heavily coated papers and boards or even detect defects in barrier coatings! Even nitrogen or helium may be used as the gas, giving us completely new possibilities to rank the products or to find correlation to critical process or converting parameters. All the modern paper machines include many on-line measuring instruments which are used to give the necessary information for automatic process control systems. Hence, the reliability of this information obtained from different sensors is vital for good optimizing and process stability. If any of these on-line sensors do not operate perfectly as planned (having even small measurement error or malfunction), the process control will set the machine to operate away from the optimum, resulting loss of profit or eventual problems in quality or runnability. To assure optimum operation of the paper machines, a novel quality assurance policy for the on-line measurements has been developed, including control procedures utilizing traceable, accredited standards for the best reliability and performance.
Tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV) is one of the most important plant viruses belonging to the genus Begomovirus of the family Geminiviridae. To identify natural weed hosts that could act as reservoirs of TYLCV, 100 samples were collected at a TYLCV-affected tomato farm in Iksan from 2013 to 2014. The sample weeds were identified as belonging to 40 species from 18 families. TYLCV was detected in 57 samples belonging to 28 species through polymerase chain reaction using root samples including five species (Eleusine indica, Digitaria ciliaris, Echinochloa crus-galli, Panicum dichotomiflorum, and Setaria faberi) from the family Poaceae. Whitefly Bemisia tabaci-mediated TYLCV transmission from TYLCV-infected E. indica plants to healthy tomatoes was confirmed, and inoculated tomatoes showed typical symptoms, such as leaf curling and yellowing. In addition, TYLCV was detected in leaf and root samples of E. indica plants inoculated by both whitefly-mediated transmission using TYLCV-viruliferous whitefly and agro-inoculation using a TYLCV infectious clone. The majority of mastreviruses infect monocotyledonous plants, but there have also been reports of mastreviruses that can infect dicotyledonous plants, such as the chickpea chlorotic dwarf virus. No exception was reported among begomoviruses known as infecting dicots only. This is the first report of TYLCV as a member of the genus Begomovirus infecting monocotyledonous plants.
