Mechanical Properties of High Strength Concrete with High Volume Mineral Admixture (다량의 혼화재를 사용한 고강도 콘크리트의 역학적 특성)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate on the mechanical properties of High Volume Mineral Admixture(HVMA) high strength concrete to reduce the amount use of Ordinary Potland Cement, to discover the optimized HVMA binder and to test HVMA concrete based on the change of W/B and curing temperature. The results were shown as follows: The HVMA binder using the mixture of combined heat power plant fly ash and anhydrous gypsum known as inorganic activators with the mixture of blast furnace slag and fly ash was optimized. The mixture of HVMA high strength concrete at 26% of W/B ratio had a good result on flow characteristic and mechanical properties. High strength HVMA concrete over 50MPa is possibly manufactured over curing temperature $20^{\circ}C$.

A Study on Characteristic of Autogenous Shrinkage of High Strength Concrete (고강도 콘크리트의 자기수축 특성에 관한 연구)

  • In case that W/B is 20%, 30%, 40% respectively, the effects of additive and shrinkage reducing agent on the autogenous shrinkage for high strengthen concrete through the substitution of FA and SF analysis were obtained as following conclusions. When the ratio of FA increased, the compressive strength of high strengthen concrete is decreased in the early times. As the ratio of SF increase, the compressive strength also increased. Comparing with PC(Portland Cement) for 7 days curing, the strength is 13.8% of FA10 + SR0.5 and 19.2% of FA15 + SR0.5 decreased when W/B is 20%, and 6.1% of SF7.5 + SR0.5, 4.8% of SF15 + SR0.5, the strength are increased. In case that W/B is 30%, 13.1% of FA10 + SR0.5 19.1% of FA15 + SR0.5 the strength is decreased and 4.1% of SF 7.5 + SR0.5, 7.2% of SF15 + SR0.5 the strength are increased. In case of W/B 40%, 4.3% of FA10 + SR0.5, and 8.7% of FA15 + SR0.5, the strength is decreased and 3.3% of SF7.5 + SR0.5, 6.3% SF15 + SR0.5 the strength is increased. When the ratio of SR is 0.5%, autogenous shrinkage strain of OPC concrete appeared $-417{\times}10-6$ in 56days curing, the shrinkage strain is decreased 23.7%. The reducing effects of autogenous shrinkage when the mineral and shrinkage agent are used are the same as ones when only shrinkage agent used.

Study of Fundamental Properties of Latex-Modified Concrete Using Blast-furnace Slag (고로(高爐)슬래그 미분말(微粉末)을 사용(使用)한 라텍스개질(改質) 콘크리트의 기초물성(基礎物性) 연구(硏究))

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of blast-furnace slag on strength development and durability of latex-modified concrete (LMC) and ordinary portland cement concrete as slag contents. Main experimental variables were performed latex contents (0%, 10%, 15%) and slag contents (0%, 30%). The compressive and flexural strengths, chloride-ion rapid permeability and chemical attacks resistance were measured to analyze the characteristic of the developed LMC and BS-LMC(latex-modified concrete added blast-furnace slag) on hardened concrete. The test results showed that compressive and flexural strength of BS-LMC increased as the slag contents increased from 0% to 30% at the long term of curing. It considers blast furnace slag used when latex content was up to 10%. The permeability resistance of BS-LMC(latex 10%, blast 30%) was extremely good at the curing time 90 days. Also. the effects of added blast furnace slag on OPC and LMC were increased on the permeability and chemical attacks resistance.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of fly-ash and blast-furnace slag on strength development and durability of ternary blended concrete (TBC) and ordinary portland cement concrete as fly ash and slag contents. Hydration and Carbonation Properties of Different Hydraulic Lime (수경성석회 종류에 따른 수황 및 탄산화 특성)

  • The main mineral phases of natural hydraulic lime (NHL) as a hydraulic lime binderare $Ca(OH)_2$, $C_2S$, $C_3S$, $C_3A$, and $SiO_2$ residues. Also, NHL has the characteristic of setting and hardening by a hydration reaction with water and by carbonation reactions with carbon dioxide from the air. In this study, in an effort to investigate changes of the mineral phases by NHL hydration and carbonation reactions, transitions of mineral phases and the microstructures of hardened pastes were analyzed by XRD, DSC, SEM, and by pore size distributions using domestic and foreign-sourced NHL pastes after curing at 1, 3, 7, and 28 days. On the basis of the analysis results, it was confirmed that domestic low-grade limestone can be used for the manufacturing of NHL. The main hydration mineral phases were $Ca(OH)_2$, $CaCO_3$, $C_2S$, and $SiO_2$ residues, while in the case of foreign-sourced NHL, a small amount of an aluminium hydration phase formed. Also, the $CaCO_3$ content after the carbonation reaction increased with an increase in the curing time. After hydration for 28 days, NHL containing considerable amounts of $C_2S$ and $C_3S$ showed higher carbonation ratios than others types.

The Effect of Cure History on the Fluorescence Behavior of an Unsaturated Polyester Resin with A Fluorescence Probe

  • We have extensively characterized the fluorescence behavior of unsaturated polyester (UP) resin in the absence and presence of a 1,3-bis-(l-pyrenyl)propane (BPP) fluorescent probe at various dynamic and isothermal cure histories by means of a steady-state fluorescence technique using a front-face illumination equipment. In addition, we explored the effect of the fluorescence intensity on the relaxation of the fluorescent probe in the UP resin by resting the dynamically and isothermally cured resin at ambient temperature and pressure for 24 h. The monomer fluorescence intensity, which has two characteristic peaks at 376 and 396nm, changed noticeably depending on the cure temperature and time and provided important information with respect to the molecular and photophysical responses upon curing. The result of the fluorescence study indicates that the increased local viscosity and restricted molecular mobility of the UP resin surrounding the BPP probe after curing are both responsible for the enhancement of the monomer fluorescence intensity. Our results also demonstrate that once the BPP probe has enough time to rearrange and become isolated prior to fluorescence, a sufficient amount of fluorescence is emitted. Therefore, we note that the fluorescence behavior of this UP resin system is influenced strongly by the relaxation process of the fluorescent probe in the resin as well as process used to cure the resin.

  • The high-density fiber composite manufacturing method by the extrusion molding method has the characteristic that continuous production is possible, and the product is molded through a mold forming a specific cross-section. OPC is used as a defect material, an appropriate amount of SiO2 is supplied for CaO reaction activity, and high density and high strength are expressed through steam and autoclave curing. However, due to the use of organic reinforcing fibers, the flame duration exceeds the regulations during the non-combustible performance test, making it difficult to secure performance. In this study, the product was produced by mixing alkali-resistant organic fiber and fly ash having voids as a binder by replacing the existing polypropylene fiber. appeared to be possible.

A Survey on the Perception of Gruel as Medicated Juk for Menu Development - Focusing on the Elders in Daejon area - (약선죽(藥膳粥) 메뉴개발을 위한 인식조사 - 대전지역 노인을 중심으로 -)

  • The objective of this study was to research the health status of the elderly population and their perception and compliance to cook medicated juk. The results from this research will be used as basic data for medicated juk development. In addition, the purpose of this study was to find a way to popularize the juk and improve their usage as medicated juk in communal feeding and convalescent hospital for elderly. The study surveyed 300 elderly residents of age over 65, in Daejeon. The following data were collected: general characteristic, health status, perception of medicated juk, and preferred kind of juk for cooking. Moreover, the study researched the constraints in cooking the juk. Data were analyzed by SPSS Windows V. 18.0 and t-test verified the differences among the questions, according to frequency analysis of each item and characteristics of the aged. You might want to specify this characteristic. Within the surveyed elderly population, 80.6% had various existing diseases with circulatory diseases being the most prevalent with 68.9%. This emphasizes on the significance of proper diet, but this recognition is not put into practice. The survey also showed that as the individuals age, they tend to care less about the necessity of proper diet. Despite of this lack of perception, 84.5% of the elderly population responded positively to the question, "Would you like to have medicated juk for curing diseases, if such juk is available?" In addition, the elderly population was in favor of developing the juk that helps to prevent and cure diseases, and many were willing to cook them. The reasons behind their will to cook are arranged in the following order: higher efficacy in curing disease than regular juk, excellence in nutrition, and unavailability of the medicated juk in the stores that requires them to cook. The sources constraining the elderly population in cooking are arranged in the following order: not knowing how to cook the juk, lack of physical strength, financial burden, and lack of information order. Please clarify this part. Suggested change: not knowing what medicated juk is. Furthermore, the main obstacle in cooking the juk is lack of cooking technique, followed by inaccessibility to the ingredients and the financial burden to purchase the ingredients.

Support Characteristics of Rock Bolt and Spiral Bolt (록 볼트 및 스파이럴 볼트의 지보특성)

  • This study is to evaluate an effect of supports with respect to these supports after comparing the characteristic of support between rock bolt of a widely used type and spiral bolt of a new type. For these purposes, we performed pull-out test in laboratory about rock and spiral bolts in the case of cement-mortar grout curing periods, 7 and 28 days, then calculated pull-out load, displacement, external pressure, inner pressure and shear stress using data obtained from the results of pull-out test, respectively. In relation between pull-out load and displacement, displacement of spiral bolt is larger than one of rock bolt. It is considered that mechanical property of rock bolt is due to larger than one of spiral bolt. In addition, displacement of supports shows nearly same or decreasing with curing periods. We found that because adhesive force between supports and cement-mortar grout is increasing with compressive strength of grout according to curing periods. The inner pressure of spiral bolt is represented larger than one of rock bolt at a step of same pull-out load. It is suggested that spiral bolt is more stable than rock bolt, maintaining stability of ground or rock mass, when supports are installed in a ground or rock mass under the same condition. Putting together with above results, we can consider that spiral bolt as a new support on an aspect of pull-out load and inner pressure is larger than rock bolt in a ground or rock mass under the same condition. Moreover, spiral bolt is more effective support than rock bolt, considering an economical and constructive aspects of supports, as well as ground or rock stability before or after installing supports.

Strength of Recycled Concrete with Furnace Slag Cement under Steam Curing Condition (순환골재 및 고로슬래그 시멘트를 사용한 증기양생 콘크리트의 강도 특성)

  • There are some problems in utilizing recycled concrete aggregate go structural use because of the difficulties concerning about quality control and durability. It seems to be possible to utilize recycled concrete aggregate for making concrete products because quality control of concrete products is easier than ready-mixed concrete, but there are little studies about the properties of the steam-cured recycled aggregate concrete. In this study, various tests were performed such as compressive strength, flexural strength, splitting tensile strength, bonding strength and chloride ion penetration test to evaluate the effect of substitution of recycled concrete aggregate. The results of strength test showed that the concrete strength decreased with the increase of the substitution ratio of recycled concrete aggregate, but it was in the reasonable range and almost equal to that of normal concrete below the substitution ratio of $50\%$. On the other hand, strength test of furnace slag cement concrete shows that the strength of recycled concrete with furnace slag cement under curing condition lower than that of recycled concrete with ordinary portland cement under same condition. From the result of this study, it can be concluded that recycled concrete aggregate is able to be utilized for structural use but substitution ratio should be decided with care in each case. The result of this study could be used as the basic data for the structural use of recycled concrete aggregate.
