The stepping stone of the study is provided through understanding the transformation of the cultural value with the paradigm shift at the turning point of late 20th century and examining the cultural relationaship between the East and the West. By researching the oriental and occidental culture in terms of the origin formation relation and differences which should be divided into broad branches that is natural ideological formative and spatial aspects and so forth. This paper makes it possible to understand the fundamental differences and relativities between two divergent cultures by way of analyzing the architecture in plastic and cognitive aspects to residential space. this study intends to elucidate common traits of korean traditional architecture and that of the Occident and the discrepancies of their attitudes toward nature and space. In Western civilization they used to consider architecture as a physical organization while the oriental people consider it a object what is so of itself. The former concentrated on the functional rationality of scientific technology with the uncontextual propensity which does not consider natural environment the latter could reach the naturalness more harmonious to environment. What counts in the upcoming age of coexistence of Globalism that emphasizes the worlds universality and Nationalism that sticks to local cultural characteristics is to establish the new value system and identity based upon natural order and organic quality. As a result we could recognize the organic quality as a cosmic order could be a valid means to achieve the globalization of our culture through the compatibility between gap and common ground of both cultural sphere.

The exploration of the spatial structure of a particular urban area, or the analysis of the tendencies of spatial consumption among urbanites, can be a literary-geographical attitude, shifting literary interests toward geography. It may also constitute a field of cultural geography that reads texts as cultural symbols. Based on this kind of attitude, the paper reads the literature of Park Wan So, particularly the popular novels that involve urban and residential spaces of Seoul, as a cultural text that carries a kind of symbolism. It proceeds with the idea that most popular novels reflect the mass phenomena of its times, and that representing real cultural experiences through text, it becomes a means of generalizing the identity shared by the anonymous masses and the characteristics of particular places. Hence the individuality of Park Wan So, who moved to Seoul during the Japanese colonial period and hence forth lived as a middle-class citizen, is inseparable from her literary work. With this attitude and methodology, the paper argues that in the urban space of metropolitan Seoul, the modern ambivalent gaze of the colonial period shifted toward increasingly new value systems, and was replaced by a dichotomous view, and furthermore, that the contents of this dichotomous view has experienced a multivalent transformation through the accumulation of time and the expansion of space.

In an attempt to demonstrate in context of Nietzsche's "overman" (ubermensch) and Heidegger's "Being-in-the-World" (Dasein) the collective human efforts to overcome humanism in crisis, I will provide the ground for the poetics of overcoming, the ground which are based upon the double movements of transhumanism and transnationalism. For this purpose, I will turn to the theories of two distinctive poets who reveal and disreveal their truths about the subjecthood or the subjectivity in terms of overcoming: Christopher Dewdney for posthuman transhumanity and Dionisio D. Martinez for transnational cultural contamination Transhumanism represented by Christopher Dewdney manifests an interfusion of outside and inside, thereby collapsing the boundary between the mind and the world, and provides a breakthrough from the limitedly defined mind to the transhuman perspective of overcoming by using terminalogy and techniques from science and technology. The emerging transhumanism reflects the growing interdependence between humans and bio technologies, and suggests a potential improvement of human beings. The main argument of transhumanism is that we humans can and should continue to develop in all possible directions, by overcoming our human limitations by shedding the body and having the disembodied consciousness which will liberate our mind. Kwame Anthony Appiah's "cultural contamination" is another form of overcoming as well as a way to otherness, a counter-ideal of cultural purity which sustains authentic culture, reversing the traditional binary opposition between enriching authenticity and threatening hybridization. Dionisio Martinez's poetry sublimates the negative side of Appiah's concept of contamination, by redeeming the value of the Appiah's list of the ideal of contamination such as hybridity, impurity, intermingling, the transformation that comes of new and unexpected combinations of human beings, a bit of this and a bit of that is how newness enters the world. When a poetic subject is doubly exiled and doubly homeless away from his/her native homeland and home of native language, one has no more identification with the authentic culture of both home and away, but rather anticipates a new identity as a transnational subject to cross the bridge beyond cultural authenticity and to enter into the field of cultural contamination.

본 논문은 문화예술이 갖는 '기억의 재생과 잠재된 변화 욕구에 대한 민중들의 의지를 불러내는 매개자'로서의 기능과 역할에 주목하였다. 진보적 문화예술 활동이 광주민주화운동을 기점으로 사회변화의 기폭제가 되었다는 판단에서 이들 사이의 상관성을 살펴보고자 하였다. 다시 말해 광주민주화운동을 기점으로 조직화된 민중문화 혹은 민중예술이 한국사회의 변화에 어떠한 영향을 주었는지 확인하고자 한 것이다. 문화에 대한 정의는 너무 광범위하여 특정할 수는 없지만 여기서 문화는 5.18민주화운동이라는 특정한 사건에서 시작하여 한국 민주주의 발전이라는 사회변화의 지속 과정에 치열하게 참여했던 일련의 행위에 초점을 맞추고자 했다. 그런 점에서 민중문화운동과 민중예술인들이 한국사회의 문화를 바꾸는데 기여한 바는 충분히 평가되어야 한다고 판단한다.

This study aims to analyze the typological characteristics of Alvar Aalto's library design. The unique characteristics of Aalto's architecture are the result of accommodating Modern architecture with regional qualities of Finland. Besides this, Aalto's typological approach in design made his color. The library might be the best example for understanding his design approach in that he showed 3 main features of type; wholeness, self-control and transformation. He established architectural types in his 30s through Viipuri public library and developed so-called fan type library plan. Aalto's library type is not a simple copy of exterior and interior form. It acts as a principle of configuration of his library architecture and applied to the building. Therefore, Aalto's library architecture can be recognized as the results of typological design approach in that it shows the transformation of type in according to factors including site, size, region and cultural tradition. In conclusion, Aalto's libraries reveal the typological characteristics in the field of building layout, dynamic space and the effective use of light.

The development of human civilization has been accompanied by a corresponding development of storage facilities. In particular, the storage of residential spaces not only performs the storage management function for personal property but also is considered an important prerequisite for a comfortable life. While examining the history of the transformation of built-in furniture, this study emphasizes the social and cultural implications of Korean residences. Therefore, We attempt to uncover the Korean characteristics that can be discovered in the transformation of storage furniture according to the changes that occurred in Korean residential forms following the modern era and to question the problematic issues of the built-in furniture in Korea.

본 연구는 전통 인물화의 현대적 정체성 확립과 현세적 변용을 위한 대안을 모색하고자 웹기반에서 개방적이고 다매체성을 통해 의사소통에 대한 근본적인 해법을 탐구하는 디지털 스토리텔링을 적용하였다. 구체적인 예시로 김홍도의 도석인물화를 선정하고 작품 속에 담겨있는 내러티브와 예술적 의의를 탐색하였고 김홍도의 신화적 스토리를 디지털스토리텔링 방식으로 전개하였다. 이러한 과정에서 전통 인물화에 대한 내러티브 기반의 디지털 스토리텔링의 개발전략을 제시하였고 그에 따른 기대효과도 확인하였다. 전통 인물화에 대한 스토리텔링은 역사인물이 갖는 역사적, 예술적 가치와 의미를 찾아내고 그것이 현시대에 공감적인 의미를 지니도록 시대 반영적 해석 및 변용을 하는데 유용한 접근이 될 수 있다.

This paper is to propose an interpretation method of urban landscapes in Korea, which are formed and transformed in the course of modernization. As the theoretical basis, an extensive study is done to define the concepts of urban landscape; townscape in the architectonic terms, urban landscape in the cultural-geographical terms, and urban landscape in the landscape ecology are those scrutinized. As for the interpretation method, the landscape process that encompasses the spatio-temporal transformation, the causes and effects of morphogenesis, the contents and forms of landscape change are studied. The emphasis is placed on the reasons and process of the cultural change from the original landscapes toward the contemporary landscapes in the rapidly urbanizing area. With these basic concepts and interpretation method, an on-site case study of 'Inchon' that has been changed drastically since the late 19th century is done, of which results will be reported in the following article(II).

컴퓨터를 매개로 한 인간 경험의 패러다임은 '문화 인터페이스'에서 '문화 소프트웨어'로 옮겨가고 있다. 디지털 게임에서 이러한 패러다임이 변화는 모드를 통해 나타난다. 지금까지 디지털 게임의 플레이는 게임이 제시하는 '목표'를 달성하기 위한 과정에서의 몰입적 에이전시를 중시했다. 반면 모드를 통해 사용자는 게임이 제시하는 목표보다는 사용자 스스로 게임 세계 안에서 '문제'를 만들어내고 그것을 해결해나가는 과정에서의 생성적 에이전시가 중시된다. 모드를 통해 원작 게임은 하나의 경험해야 할 작품이 아니라, 변형하고 하고 새로운 콘텐츠를 생성할 수 있는 질료로서 데이터가 된다. 사용자의 모드를 통한 이러한 게임 콘텐츠의 변형과 생성은 게임의 지속가능한 모델을 제시한다.

Hybrid trend of the 21st century is an important basis to express fashion Alexander McQueen is a representative designer of Hybrid trend which combines heterogeneous elements into oneconcept. Accordingly, this study distributed and analyzed Hybrid trend which was in Alexander McQueen's work like below. First, there was a racial Hybrid trend which combined different local culture in shared space of the world in his fashion work and he challenged to Westernized ideal beauty with new recognition and knowledge about beside countries of Western Europe which were considered as not important culture due to perceiving relative value of a pluralist society and created new way aesthetic consciousness. Second, he expressed a historical character of a combination of tradition and modern by his fashion work based on wide historical knowledge of a dress. He created a new line in contrast to the past with a perfect design through combination of the style from the tradition with the parody and displayed his own design world. Third, he treated instability and disorder from the interior essential dissolution, thus he had a cultural character which broke down the boundary of cultural genre and style. This attitude showed transformation of constructivism and deconstruction view, secession and distortion, mixture, duplication, secession and insert by his fashion work.
