목재 유물 김젖개의 몬테카를로 방법을 이용한 감마선 조사 (Optimal Gamma Irradiation Using Monte Carlo Simulations on Wooden Cultural Properties, Gimjeotgae)

  • In this study, there has been investigated the simulation of irradiation dose using Monte Carlo methodology for the biological control of wooden cultural property. In the evaluation of fungal contamination on wooden cultural properties, Cladosporium tenuissimum, Aspergillus versicolor, Penicillium sp. were mainly identified from the Gimjeotgae. But these microorganisms were completely inactivated by 20 kGy gamma-rays. For dosimetry simulation of wooden cultural properties, Monte Carlo methodology with MCNP was used. The radiation absorbed dose distribution was predicted at 8.2~18.9 kGy. These results show that irradiation is effective for biologic control of wooden cultural properties and Monte Carlo methodology is useful for non-destructive conservation and preservation of wooden cultural properties.

The Effect of Chemical Treatments on Biodeterioration of Stone Cultural Properties

  • The biodeterioration with blue-green algae has been studied since 1997 up to 2000 in the tomb of King Mooryong in Kongiu, Korea. Biodeterioration in the tomb initially started from the formation of micro-organismic biofilm that had been suggested to make minor changes on the stone surface. This study revealed that the biofilm formed by microorganisms could result in permanent damages on stone cultural properties. The application of a chemical, 'K2Ol', developed by the author successfully removed fouling of biofilm on the surfaces of stone cultural properties. When small pieces of granite stone were embedded in the solution to study the side effects of the chemicals for a period of three months, the mechanical stability was 0.97 compared to control and there was no change in color. Biodeterioration is one of the most harmful factors that decrease the value of stone cultural properties but it may be treated with a development of proper chemicals.

사상균에 의한 지류.섬유질 유물의 색변화 (Color Difference of Celluloytic Cultural Properties by Fungi)

  • We compared the degree of color difference formed by environmental factor(temperature, relative humidity) with fungal growth in order to know how to change the color difference of cellulolutic cultural properties such as Korean papers, cotton, jute and hemp. We concluded, from the result, that the action of fungal growth on celluloytic cultural properties was more hamful than environmental factor. We considered the secretion produced by fungi as the causative agent for stained formation on cellulolytic cultural properties. Alternaria sp. colored allmaterials greyish black, Chaetomium sp. colored cotton and hemp orange, and Penicllium sp. colored cotton, jute and hemp yellowish green. But Trichoderma sp. and Aspergillus sp. didn't show a clear color against each material. It was observed that thymol(120g/$m^3$) was the most effective fungicide to prevent fungal growth.

  • Unlike traditional cultural assets, industrial assets are closely tied with contemporary life in numerous ways, and have acted as a bridge between the traditional architectural buildings and contemporary architectural buildings, reflecting the overall economical, social and cultural portraits of that time. Reinvestigating them in a new light, granting just and fair values, and preserving and transmitting these modern cultural heritages is a method of preserving the historical and cultural traditions in order to keep own identity and integrity. Nowadays, however, due to various sprawling developments and new development-oriented urban policies, only a select few industrial assets are being protected, the rest facing demolition and damages. In order to better cope with such situation, Korea has officially introduced the Registered Cultural Properties System since 2001, and began acknowledging the historical values of industrial buildings as modern cultural properties. By systematic analysis and deduction of characteristics from successfully recycled precedents such Oberhausen Gasometer in the state of Nordhein-Westfalen that have been preserved and recycled as cultural spaces, this paper aims to find and propose suggestions to rehabilitate and recycle the industrial cultural properties in Korea.

석조문화재의 보존에 대한 철학적 고찰 (Philosophical Consideration on the Conservation of the Stone Cultural Properties)

  • 석조문화재는 '석재'로 만들어진 문화재로 조성 목적에 따라서 여러 형태를 빌리고 있다. 그 중에서 석탑(승탑 포함)과 석불(마애불 포함)이 가장 많으며 문화사적 및 과학기술적 측면에서 가장 중요하다고 판단된다. 문화사적인 것과 과학기술적인 특징은 왜? = why? 그리고 어떻게? = how?의 관계로 나타낼 수 있다. 전자는 이유, 원인 등으로 철학적인 면을, 그리고 후자는 방법론적인 면을 의미한다. '왜?' 그들은 석탑과 석불을 제작하였으며 '어떻게' 그것들을 조성할 수 있었을까? 이와 같이, 석조문화재는 대부분 (1) 정치-사회적, (2) 종교적, 그리고 (3) 문화사적 배경에 따라 형태적 측면의 영향을 받는다. 그러므로 문화재가 조성된 배경을 종합적으로 조사 및 분석하여 석조문화재 보존처리를 위한 원칙과 방법론에 대해 기술하고자 한다.

건축문화재 기록의 특성과 관리 방안 연구 (A Study on Characteristics and Management of Records of Architectural Cultural Properties)

  • 건축문화재 기록은 건축문화재 관리 업무의 과정과 결과로 만들어지며, 문화재청 및 지방자치단체 그리고 문화재수리업자와 같은 복수의 주체가 동일 문화재의 관리 업무를 각각 담당한다. 또한 업무의 특성상 설계도면 등의 특수한 성격의 기록과 다수의 사진, 동영상 기록 등을 포함하므로, 건축문화재에 대한 관리 업무의 절차와 그 기록의 특수성을 파악하는 것이 전제되어야 하고, 이에 따라 생산되고 관리되어야만 건축문화재 기록의 가치를 상실하지 않게 된다. 본 연구는 건축문화재 관리 업무 현장의 현실에 맞는 기록관리의 방법을 제안하고, 건축문화재 기록을 효율적으로 관리하고 차후에 활용하기 위해 지정문화재와 등록문화재를 대상으로 하여 건축문화재 관리업무 및 생성 기록의 특성을 파악함과 동시에 이러한 특성에 맞는 통합적이고도 과학적인 기록관리의 방안을 제안하는 것이 목표이다. 연구결과 건축문화재 기록의 관리에 있어서 가장 큰 문제점은 기관별로 분산되어 있는 관리체계이다. 이에 기록 생산 기관인 문화재청, 지방자치단체, 문화재수리업자 각각이 기록을 분산 관리하되 통일된 시스템에 기록을 등록 관리하는 네트워킹 체계를 구축하는 방안과 전문 시설과 인력을 갖춘 전문적인 기록물 관리기관으로서의 건축문화재 전문 아카이브즈를 만들어 이를 통해 기록들을 통합 관리하는 방안을 제안한다.

  • Precise scientific-diagnosis for preserving stone cultural properties has been well-advanced, but research on proper methods for conservation, restoration and repair is still in early stage. Accordingly it is quite difficult to establish conservation treatment methods compatible to unique characteristics and environments of each cultural property. We tried to select most compatible conservation materials through thorough assessment of conservation materials in current use. This research is focused on conservation and restoration materials except cleaner, which are used as adhesive, filler, repellent and consolidant. Conservation treatments for stone cultural properties were first tested in 1960's and have been carried out by various methods under relevant organizations and conservation treatment companies since. We investigated present status of conservation materials being used for cultural properties. Based on these data, we will look through types and properties of the conservation materials to figure out existing problems. Among many kinds of resins, the ratio of conservation materials used in cultural properties is very low. Therefore, new conservation materials equipped with proved long-term stability should be developed as soon as possible.
