East-West Exchange of Costume Culture: Focusing on the Analysis of Taq-i Bustan Reliefs of the Sassanian Dynasty of Persia

  • The Taq-i Bustan reliefs are representative works from the Sassanian dynasty of the 4th to 7th centuries. This study analyzes the costumes depicted in the Taq-i Bustan reliefs to gain understanding of the phenomena of cultural exchange between the East and West by observing the foreign cultural elements appearing in the Sassanian costumes of that time. Literature study and artifacts analysis were conducted in parallel. External elements appearing in Taq-i Bustan's costume were Greek-Roman and Central Asian. The tunics and trousers of the gods and the trousers of kings (Ardashir II, Shapur II and Shapur III) were made of thin fabric and showed many wrinkles, a characteristic of Greek and Roman clothing. On the spandrel above the arch of the great grotto of Khusrau II are depicted the goddesses of Victory, in a Greco-Bactrian style. Among the costume elements of Taq-i Bustan, there were also Central Asian elements observed. One Central Asian costume element was the round clasp ornament for tying the trousers. The side slits and hem of the tunic were presented in the style of the Sogd clothing of Central Asia in the 6th and 7th centuries, while the pearl rounded pattern was activated in Sogd, Kucha and Kizyl in the 7th and 8th centuries. These reliefs are considered important evidence of eastern influences in Sassanian culture.

문화 인텔리전스는 수출중소기업의 해외시장정보 활용능력을 키우는가? (Does Cultural Intelligence enhance Export SME's Capability for Utilizing Foreign Market Informations?)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 비교문화 연구에 비교적 새로운 개념으로서 Earley and Ang(2003)이 도입한 문화 인텔리전스(cultural intelligence : CQ)를 적용하여 중소기업 수출담당자의 문화 인텔리전스가 해외시장정보 탐색과 해외시장정보 활용능력(마케팅적응, 관계적응) 간의 관계에 어떤 영향을 미치는지를 분석하는 것이다. 구조모형 분석방법으로서 SmartPLS가 사용되었고, 94개 수출중소기업을 대상으로 실증적으로 분석한 결과, 문화 인텔리전스는 해외시장정보탐색과 해외시장정보 활용능력에 부분적으로 조절적 역할을 하는 것으로 검증되었다. 문화 인텔리전스의 선행요인으로서는 수출담당자의 외국어유창성, 해외출장빈도, 다국어구사력, 해외출장용무, 문화선행학습, 해외체류경험 등이 유의한 요인으로 검증되었다. 연구결과에 의거하면, 해외시장정보를 습득-이해-가공하는 과정에 문화 인텔리전스의 역할이 큰 것으로 추론할 수 있다. 따라서 다차원적 성격의 문화 인텔리전스 강화를 위해 기업 및 수출지원기관의 차별화된 문화역량 교육 및 훈련프로그램 개발이 필요하다.

  • Recently, it is concentrated world interest to Korea sensational (Hanryu) exited for not only sports but korean drama, K-pop in public culture. And G20 summit meeting and Winter Olympic open city selection. It is why practical information needs of Korean traditional cooking method and Korean culture, history and architecture and easy way to gain information. Korea has strong power for internet and nuke personal media mini home page, and cafe, blog. Blog is useful for spread information and has efficiency of speedy exchange information. In this study making blog contents of Korean traditional cultural information for not only Korean but foreigner. For method find blog has possibility of cultural information spreading tool, in literature and investigate usefulness and contents of naver blog having Korean traditional costume. In this study, it is helpful to open and construction personal blog of korean traditional costume and traditional culture contents.

  • The essay examines two contemporary American plays that portray adult Korean American adoptees' return to South Korea: How to Be a Korean Woman (2012) by Sunmee Chomet and Middle Brother (2014) by Eric Sharp. While the existing scholarship on transnational adoption has discussed homecoming as a predominantly female experience of birth mothers and daughters, Chomet and Sharp suggest the differing ways in which the adoptee subjectivity is re-imagined in particularly gendered ways after homecoming. In these plays, adult adoptees' repeated, mundane bodily performances of Korean cultural norms illustrate how notions of femininity and masculinity are inscribed onto the body of adoptee individuals under the patriarchal system. Such performative construction of Korean-ness departs from the earlier theatrical representations of young, adolescent adoptees' homecoming that served as a symbolic rite of passage, a necessary process through which they would gain cultural hybridity and mature into cosmopolitan American-ness.

대형마트부설 문화센터 이용고객의 라이프스타일 유형이 대형마트 이용의도에 미치는 영향: 쇼핑가치의 매개효과 (Impact of Lifestyles of Cultural Center Users in Discount Stores on the Store Usage Intention: Mediating Effect of Shopping Value)

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to identify whether the operation of cultural centers in discount stores contributes to their profitability. Thus, this study is aimed at exploring how the lifestyles of customers who use the cultural centers influence their intention to use the discount stores. Specifically, the effect of shopping value on the correlation between the lifestyle types and usage intention of the customers were examined through a structured research model. To verify the effect, a survey on 139 customers of the Cultural Center of Nonghyup Hanaro Club's S branch was conducted and the valid questionnaires were used for analysis. Research design, data, and methodology - The findings are as follows. First, the lifestyles seeking self-realization had a positive effect on utilitarian value, and lifestyles seeking pop cultures had a positive effect on hedonic value. Second, the mediating effect of shopping value on the correlation between the lifestyle types and usage intention of the customers is as follows. Utilitarian value had a mediating effect only on the lifestyles seeking self-realization. In case of lifestyles seeking pop cultures, the use of Cultural Center had no effect on the intention to use the discount store. Third, an analysis of a revised research model revealed that the store usage intention of lifestyles seeking pop cultures can be enhanced by boosting the utilitarian value through hedonic value. Results - The findings suggest the following. Customers with lifestyles seeking self-realization, who value what is beneficial to them with little attention to the perceptions of others, are highly interested in the benefits they can gain from shopping. As for customers with lifestyles seeking pop cultures, they are highly likely to consume products popular in a particular culture such as new products and sports, based on financial stability they pursue. Thus, they prefer more subjective, personal experience, unlike consumers pursuing utilitarian value. Conclusions - As a result, the former pursues hedonic value gained in the process of shopping with fun and joy, rather than doing shopping with a particular purpose in mind. Therefore, Cultural Centers need to offer information that fits the lifestyles of the users so that they are more likely to use the discount stores. However, if the Cultural Centers offer unified, profit-driven products and information, just to increase their store sales, it can backfire, which occurred in the past. On the other hand, if they provide information that fits the lifestyles of the users, it can actually increase the sales. Also, the findings suggest that sophisticated marketing strategies that can boost the hedonic value of customers by linking the educational contents of Cultural Centers to actual shopping, which is beneficial to consumers, should be set and operated by discount stores. In particular, customers with lifestyles seeking self-realization can be encouraged to use the stores by making them recognize the utilitarian value. However, the use of Cultural Centers doesn't necessarily lead to higher sales among customers with lifestyles seeking pop cultures. As mentioned previously, unified marketing strategy is not as effective for Cultural Centers of large discount stores.

제주초지의 사회.문화적 기능 가치평가 및 보전방안 (Estimation of Socio-Cultural Value and Preservation Program of Grassland in Jeju)

  • The purpose of this paper is to estimate economic value of multi-functionality roles including landscape and so on, which grassland in Jeju possesses, using Dichotomous Choice Contingent Valuation Method (DC-CVM). Grassland is life cultural heritance of regional residents in Jeju. It has functions like development of favorable landscapes, maintenance of cultural heritage, and recreation/relaxation. Expectation from regional visitors shows that the existence and inheritance value of grassland is higher than we expected. According to the research that we had done from the people that had agreed to contribute grassland. moreover the public commercial value of grassland was not only $397{\sim}419$ billion won but also it will increase an economic gain in every year in Jeju. Therefore, preserving grassland that has multi-functional roles and values can lead to huge economic value in the future in Jeju. Moreover, farm households which are located in the grassland conservation area would be supported $15{\sim}31$ billion won in every year for grassland conservation but it is only $4{\sim}8%$ of the economic value of grassland i.e. $3,971{\sim}4190$ billion won. Thus, grassland preservation policy and plan can raise green-tour commercial value of Jeju area as a long-term inside measurement. Those will have to be propelled continuously.

파워드레싱(Power Dressing)에 대한 사회문화적 연구 (A Study on Power Dressing in Socio-culture)

  • Fashion appears as a similar sense of form in a regularly cyclical way. The part highlighted in the female body also becomes that way. The social and cultural problem of fashion is also a matter about the selection of a wearer on how to wear in what environment. Power dressing means an attire that makes you feel dignity, intelligence or power and an attire that is needed to succeed in the business society. It is based on the fact that women started wearing tailored suits that were regarded as the exclusive item of men as the women's social activity was actively progressing. The purpose of the study is to analyze the problem of styles in the social and cultural perspectives. The power dressing was repeatedly appeared in 1930s, 1980s and 2000s. Therefore, this study collected photo data and literature documents to analyze and compare shoulders represented during these three periods, and to examine what social cultural environment was operated for each period and how the designers of each period expressed with clothes. Power dressing is characterized by the use of shoulder pad for the first time for 1930s, the extended shoulder for 1980s and the design the extended shoulder with the more decorative method for 2000s. Power dressing has been utilized as women's gain and improvement of social status, flaunting of economical status and a symbol of individuality and identity.

Corrosion Prediction of Metallic Cultural Heritage Assets by EIS

  • Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) was used to predict corrosion behaviour of metallic Cultural Heritage assets in two monitoring campaigns: 1) an iron bar chain exposed indoor from over 500 years in the Notre Dame Cathedral in Amiens (France); and 2) a large weathering steel sculpture exposed outdoor from tens of years in Ferrara (Italy). The EIS portable instrument employed was battery operated. In situ EIS measurements on the iron chain could be used to investigate the phenomena involved in the electrochemical interfaces among various corrosion products and assess and predict their corrosion behaviour in different areas of the Cathedral. Meanwhile, the sculpture of weathering steel, like most outdoor artefacts, showed rust layers of different chemical composition and colour depending on the orientation of metal plates. The EIS monitoring campaign was carried out on different areas of the artefact surface, allowing assessment of their protective effectiveness. Results of EIS measurements evidenced how employing a simple test that could be performed in situ without damaging the artefacts surface is possible to quickly gain knowledge of the conservation state of an artefact and highlight potential danger conditions.

Eating Ethnic: "Culinary Tourism" and "Food Pornography" in Kitchen Chinese

  • According to Wenying Xu, Asian American literature abounds in culinary metaphors and references (8); subsequently, a growing number of critics have begun to recognize that food "feeds into the literary rendering of Asian American subjectivity [and] provides a language through which to imagine Asian alterity in the American imagination" (Mannur 13). Ann Mah's Kitchen Chinese: A Novel about Food, Family, and Finding Yourself (2010) is yet another text within which to investigate how food "operates as one of the key cultural signs that structure people's identities" (Xu 2). Even as Kitchen Chinese insists on underscoring that Chinese food, as much as the voyage to her "motherland" China, is critical to protagonist Isabelle's quest to gain a better understanding of herself, we are able to observe how Isabelle exploits Chinese culture and its foodways as "food pornography" in order to align herself with mainstream America. Needless to say, the novels' relegation of Chinese food as "food porn" is problematic in that it encourages readers to participate in the exoticization of Asia and its culture, and the reduction of its people as the other. Ultimately, this essay aims to consider how the consumption and rejection of food becomes a critical means by which the Asian American subject fashions her identity.

문화.관광 자원의 구글어스 Uploading을 위한 3D 객체 단순화 (3D Object Simplification for Google Earth Uploading of the Cultural Resources and Tourist Attractions)

  • 세계 여러 나라들은 전통문화를 바탕으로 국익증진과 경쟁력 향상을 위해 문화콘텐츠의 개발 및 홍보방식에 새로운 변화와 개혁을 추진하고 있다. 또한, 국민의 생활수준과 삶의 질이 높아짐에 따라 전통 문화의 향유를 위한 다양한 요구가 증가하고 있으며, 문화재 환경이 갈수록 복잡하고 다양해지면서 체계적인 관리와 보존 방안이 필요하다. 이러한 관점에서 웹을 이용한 지형공간정보 제공서비스는 위성사진이나 지형, 3D 뷰잉 등 다양한 형태의 서비스를 제공함으로써 사용자가 특정지역의 구체적 공간정보를 얻을 수 있도록 하고 있다. 특히, 3D 모델링을 이용한 지형공간정보는 구축비용이나 운용, 유지의 어려움 때문에 국한된 공간에서만 이루어지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 전통 건축물 및 문화관광 자원을 3D 객체 단순화를 통해 구글어스에 효과적으로 업로딩하기 위한 방법을 제시하고자 한다.
