  • The purpose of this study is to reveal the cultural meaning behind modern experiences of diversity through the history of clothing in Korea. To this end, this study examines aspects that dictate clothing culture acceptance experienced and practiced by women by analyzing the case of the Naju rural area in Jeollanam-do from the 1950s to 1980s. Modern clothing was accepted later in the 20 century in this village, and the Satgolnai traditional textile tradition was an important factor after 1950s. In addition, the continuity of the rural five-day market is different from practices in the city. Limitations in access to media such as TV, films, and magazines, and the functional meaning of clothing in rural areas contributed to limitations for women to get the opportunity to access modern clothing items that were popular in the city. Unlike in the city, the event that inspired the transition to full-scale modern clothing in this village was the Saemaul Undong Movement of the 1970s. Additionally, Mombbe (labor cloth) worn during the Japanese colonial period was continuously worn as daily clothes for Naju women even after the 1950s. Therefore, colonial modernity continued through clothing.

  • Sensor networks are utilized in various fields as the useful system that provides the useful information to the user, by storing, processing and analyzing the various data collected from sensors. In construction of such sensor networks, by utilizing cloud PaaS for both communication server and the database server, the cost reduction and stabilization of the system can be achieved. In this paper, UDIPSN (User Decision Information Providing Sensor Network) was implemented to provide the decision information to the users by being treated as a cloud service for the location information of a moving object as well as various sensor data. Finally, we showed that the operation of the proposed system was performed properly.

  • The ritual for community is a group ritual performed by the regional community of a village for the safety of the residents and abundant harvests. However, many ritual places have been destroyed by the anti-superstition movement, New Community Movement (Saemaul Movement), industrialization and urbanization since the 1960s. Under the circumstances, this study researched the status of use of the ritual place in Beommul-dong in Daegu where the ritual was revived in 2004 after having been suspended since the end of the 1980s due to urbanization. The revival of the ritual for community in Beommul-dong in Daegu, which had been maintained by the village people alone, is the prime example of the vitalization of local community as the recreation of local community, since the ritual has been transformed into a kind of festival involved with and financed by the local government. The study on analyzing the usage pattern of the ritual place may provide useful sources to come up with the modernized functions of the ritual place as a community place, where the heads of the ward office and cultural center, lawmakers and most of the residents perform the ritual, share foods and tread on the God of the Earth across the village at 11:30 in the morning on every January 16 of the lunar calendar.

Methods: The technique developed by Walker and Avant was used as a guide in analyzing the concept of self-care. Results: Attributes of self-care in dementia may include a single or group of actions needed for sustaining life, a personal effort to maintain functional independence while minimizing other's assistance, an outcome behavior from the person's interaction with inter-personal and/or contextual environment, and a functional ability that may decline in parallel to cognitive impairment. Antecedents of self-care in dementia may include at least presence of a certain degree of cognitive appraisal for the self-care needs, self-willingness for the self-care action, spatial and visual orientation, cultural pre-conception of the self-care behavior, presence of environmental context/equipment available for self-care, and sufficient time available. The consequences may include sustaining of life, feel of satisfaction, achieving independence, extended life expectancy, increased self-confidence, decreased caregiver distress and/or burden, savings in health care costs. Discussion: Defining attributes and antecedents and consequences of self-care in dementia identified in this study provided empirical ground of a middle-range theory of self-care for a clinical population with dementia and generated possible hypotheses to be tested in future studies.

  • The Kimchi intake of elementary students in both school and home is decreasing due to their westernized eating habits which have been affected by the rapid economic growth and industrialization in our modem society. The purposes of this study were to examine the influence of menu selections on the Kimchi intake rate and to provide basic data for an appropriate Kimchi serving size to reduce the plate-waste rate. The results showed that the average daily intake rate of Kimchi of low-grade students was 58.2%, equating to 6${\sim}$18 g, compared to 64.6% for high-grade students, equivalent to 13${\sim}$24 g. Correlation analysis of the intake rate of menu items and Kimchi showed that the Kimchi intake rate increased with increasing total meal intake rate, rice intake rate, soup intake rate, rice mixed with grains intake rate, clear soup intake rate and soybean-paste soup intake rate, but that it decreased as the intake rate of seasoned uncooked vegetables of high-grade students increased. This study is expected to be utilized as a solution to increase the Kimchi intake rate of elementary school students, and also to determine the proper serving size per person on the menu items by grade.
