Determination of a Weak Exchange Interaction in Magnetically Coupled Cluster System by EPR Singlet-Triplet Transition Lines

  • Exchange-coupled cluster of transition-metal ions are relevant to many different scientific areas, ranging from chemistry to solid-state physics, biology, material science and has been the subject of much research in recent years(1,2). Single crystal EPR spectroscopy works as a very effective tool for the measurement of J values for small exchange interactions. This makes EPR technique very suitable for detection of weak exchange coupling transmitted over long distances via extended atomic and melecular bridges. Large polyoxometallates (3) may provide ideal structural environments for the study of interactions between paramagnetic ions. The detailed nature of magnetic interaction (positive sign and magnitude of J~0.006 $cm^{-1}$ /) was clearly determined for di-copper(II) system by single crystal EPR spectroscopy (4). The single-triplet (S-T) transitions are forbidden by different symmetries of the wave functions. However, when the singlet ground state is mixed into triplet states, the S-T transitions can be allowed and observed as weak lines. These weak S-T lines are positioned symmetrically with respect to the main transitions in the distance equals to 2J from the center of the spectrum. This lines allow one to determine the J-value with very high accuracy when │J│ < hv 0.32 $cm^{-1}$ /. Unfortunately, the S-T transitions in the single crystal were detected by EPR method only in a few complexes until now. We have measured single-triplet transition lines for several magnetically coupled cluster systems and determined their J values accurately. The temperature dependency of J was studied by monitoring the changes in S-T.

$CsPbCl_3$ 결정의 강탄성 domain의 orientations (The orientations of ferroelastic domain in single Crystal, $CsPbCl_3$)

  • 강탄성 $CsPbCl_3$ 결정을 Czochralski법 및 Bridgman법을 사용하여 육성하고 XRD, DTA, 유전상수 측정 등을 통하여 구조 조사 및 상전이 온도를 확인하고 편광현미경 조사를 통하여 강탄성 domain의 존재를 확인하였으며 domain의 온도 의존성 등을 관찰하였다. 또한 cubic상에서 tetragonal, orthorhombic을 거쳐 monoclinic으로 상전이하였을 때 나타나는 domain들의 orientation에 대해 결정학적 고찰을 통하여 그리고 이론적으로 조사하여 일치되는 결과를 얻었다.

α-In2S3:Co2+ 단결정의 광학적 특성에 관한 연구 (Optical Properties of α-In2S3:Co2+ Single Crystal)

  • The ${\alpha}-In_2S_3:Co^{2+}$ single crystal with a good quality and stabilized property were gained successfully by the CTR(Chemical Transport Reaction)method. XRD analysis showed that the grown single crystals were cubic structure. The optical absorption spectra of ${\alpha}-In_2S_3:Co^{2+}$ single crystal showed impurity absorption peaks due to cobalt impurity. These impurity absorption pesks were assigned to the ligand transition between the split energy levels of $Co^{2+}$ ions sited in $T_d$ symmetry of these semiconductor host lattice.

  • Single crystal of $CdIn_2Te_4$ were grown by the Bridgman method without using seed crystals. From photocurrent measurements, its was found that three peaks, A, B, and C, correspond to the instrinsic transition from the valence band states of ${\Gamma}_7$(A), ${\Gamma}_6$(B), and ${\Gamma}_7$(C) to the conducton band states of ${\Gamma}_6$, respectively. Crystal field splitting and spin orbit splitting were found to be at 0.2360 eV and 0.1119 eV, respectively, from found to be photocurrent spectroscopy.

Crystal growth and pinning enhancement of directionally melt-textured$(Y_{0.5}Nd_{0.25}Sm_{0.25})Ba_2Cu_3O_y$ oxides in air

  • High $T_c(Y_{0.5}Nd_{0.25}Sm_{0.25})Ba_2Cu_3O_y[(YNS)-123]$ superconductors with/without $CeO_2$ additive were systematically investigated by the zone melt growth process in air. Cylindrical green rods of (YNS)-123 oxides were fabricated by cold isostatic pressing (CIP) method using rubber mould. A sample prepared by this method showed well-textured microstructure, and $(Y_{0.5}Nd_{0.25}Sm_{0.25})_2BaCuO_5[(YNS)211]$ nonsuperconducting inclusions were uniformly dispersed in large $(Y_{0.5}Nd_{0.25}Sm_{0.25})Ba_2Cu_3O_y$[(YNS)123] superconducting matrix. In this study, optimum melting temperature and growth rate were $1100^{\circ}C$ and 3 mm/hr, respectively. The directionally melt-textured (YNS)-123 sample with $CeO_2$ additive showed an onset critical temperature $(T_c)\;T_c{\geq}93K$ and sharp superconducting transition.

  • This study has investigated the effect of thermal stability and mechanical property of $Fe_{80-X}P_{10}C_6B_4M_X$(X=2, 4, 6, M=transition metal) amorphous alloys fabricated by the melt-spun process. The glass transition temperature($T_g$), crystallization temperature($T_x$) and hardness increase with decreasing electron concentration (e/a) from about 7.38 to 7.18. The decrease of e/a implies the increase in the attractive bonding state between the M elements and other constituent element. The decrease in a/e leads to the enhancement of the attractive bonding state among the constituent elements which is favorable for the increase in $T_g$, $T_x$ and hardness.

Temperature Driven Phase Transition of Organic-Inorganic Halide Perovskite Single Crystals

  • Organic-inorganic halide perovskite single crystals undergo phase transition of being cubic, tetragonal, or orthorhombic depending on the temperature. We investigated the $CH_3NH_3PbBr_{3-x}I_x$ single crystals grown by the inverse temperature crystallization method with temperature-dependent UV-Vis absorption and photoluminescence. From the temperature-dependent absorption measurement, the optical band gap is extracted by derivation of absorption spectrum fitting and Tauc plot. In our results, $CH_3NH_3PbBr_{3-x}I_x$ single crystals show that an abrupt change in optical band gap, PL peak position and intensity appears around 120 K - 170 K regions, indicating the phase transition temperature.

  • KLN은 성장 결정 내의 $Nb_2O_5$함유량에 따라 물성이 크게 변화하므로 단결정의 조성제어가 매우 중요하다. 본 실험에서는 초기 KLN용액의 $Nb_2O_5$함량을 증가시켜 $Nb_2O_5$함유량이 높은 KLN단결정을 온도요동법과 TSSG법에 의해 성장시키고 성장된 KLN단결정인 $Nb_2O_5$증가량에 따른 격자결함의 유무를 관찰하고자 유전 및 광학 특성을 관찰하다. KLN 단결정 내에 격자결함의 증가에 의해 낮은 에너지로의 단락 frequency 이동과 DPT 특성을 보이는 넓은 Curie 범위가 관찰되었다.

  • 본 연구에서는 원형수직 충돌분류에 의한 가열평판의 전열특성을 해석하기 위 하여 최근 표면온도 측정에 많이 사용되고 있는 liquid crystal을 이용하였다. 즉 liquid crystal의 감온특성과 영상처리 기법을 이용하여 레이놀즈수 및 노즐과 충돌판 사이의 거리(L/D) 변화에 따른 전열면의 온도장 변화를 측정하였다.
