  • A hippolytid shrimp, Lebbeus grandimana, is described from the southern part of the East Sea and this is the first record of the species in Korea. The genus Lebbeus of the family Hippolytidae currently comprises four species in Korea. A key to identify the four species of the genus Lebbeus from Korean waters is provided.

  • Two pelagic species Siriella izuensis Murano and Fukuoka, 2008 and Siriella japonica Ii, 1964, are reported for the first time from the Korean waters, together with descriptions and illustrations. S. izuensis can be distinguished from its closest relative, Siriella japonica, by the normal inner flagellum of the antennule of males, as opposed to the swollen proximal part in S. japonica, and by the slightly more distinct tendency of alternate arrangement of spines on the distal third lateral margin of the telson than in S. japonica. S. izuensis and S. japonica differ distinctly from other related species by a combination of the triangular rostral plate, the moderate size of the eyes, the form and arrangement of the lateral spines of the telson, and six or seven graded spines on the distal outer margin of the uropodal exopod. A taxonomical key is given for the genus Siriella from the Korea waters.

  • Seven geographical variation types of G.sobaegensis in South Korea were reported by Kim and Lee(1977) and Lee and Kim (1980). After extensive reexamination, we considered type 4, one of the variation types collectd from various localities of Kyongsangbuk-do Pongwha-gun, as a new species This new species is named as Gammarus longisaeta and fully described and illustrated. Adding this new species, total 9 species of freshwater Gammarus are Known to Korea.

  • A newly recorded ampithoid species, Ampithoe akuolaka Barnard, 1970 from Korean waters is reported with a description and illustrations. This species is distinguished from other congeneric species by the following characteristic features: the apical lobules of the lower lip are separated, but short and tumid; the posterodistal corner of the carpus on gnathopod 1 has a triangular extension in mature males; and the palm of gnathopod 2 is largely bifid in mature males. We examine the fine structures that are not mentioned in the original description using scanning electron microscopy for a better observation, and present a changed key to Korean ampithoid species.

  • Taurine content was determined by HPLC equipped with RF detector in commercial milks, meats, edible viscera, ham, sausage, fishes and shellfishes, mollusca and crustacea. Taurine contained 1.06~1.57mg/100g in milks, 37.9~169.8mg/100g in lean meats, 11.3~192.4mg/100g in viscera, 45.0~109.1 mg/100g in ham, 11.7~26.0mg/100g in sausage, 31.6~431.9mg/100g in fishes, 125.9~1078.8mg/100g in shellfishes, 340.2~ 1305.6mg/100g in mollusca and 79.3~316.5mg/100g in crustacea. Webfoot octopus had the highest content of 1,306mg/100g, followed by small ark shell(1,079mg/100g), little neck clam (868mg/100g), hard shelled mussel(852mg/100g) and beka squid(734mg/100g).

  • This study deals with 8 species in 6 genera including 5 new species and 2 new records from Taiwan. The new ones are Neanura kentingensis n.sp., Womersleya formosana n.sp., Crossodinthina montana n.sp., Vitronura tubercula sp., Lobella nana n.sp., and 2 new records are Pseudachorucina nepalica Yosii, 1966 and Lobella perfusa Denis., 1934. The Neanuridae fauna of Taiwan accordingly is listed as 13 species in 7 genera. The biogeographic affinities with the Japan, Vietnam and adjacent countries are discussed.

  • Collections of isopod custaceans from the south coasts of Korea contained a new species of sphaeromatid genus Dynoides . Description is given under the name of Dynoides spinipodus. The proposed new species is allied to D. serratisinus BArnard, 1914, D. barnardi Baker, 1928 and D.Dentisinus Shen , 1929 in the presence of a conical median process on the pleon , but it is readily distinguished by the pleotelsonic foramen without maginal teeth along its inner border.
