  • 채종원(採種園) 관리를 위해 개발된 여러 수종의 다양한 수형 조절 방법의 검토 및 이미 수형 조절 작업을 받은 16년생 접목 잣나무의 성장 조사와 I영급~III영급 조림지 임목의 성장 조사를 통하여 잣나무 인공림에서 잣과 목재를 생산할 수 있는 수형과 그 조절 방법을 제시하였다. 제 1형은 I~II영급에 잣 생산만을 위해 적용할 수 있는 방법으로 지상 1m 정도의 힘센 생지(生枝)를 포함하여 1m 정도 간격으로 4~5마디까지 남기고 단간(斷幹)하되 각 마디에 3~4개의 일차지(一次枝)를 윤생(輪生)으로 배치하는 변칙주간형(變則主幹型)이고, 제 2형은 잣과 목재 생산을 함께 도모하는 II영급~III영급에 적용이 가능한 방법으로 힘센 첫 생지 (지표에서 4m~8m)의 아래 부분은 무절(無節) 주간(主幹)으로 성장시키고 그 위는 1m 정도 간격으로 최고 4~5마디까지 남기고 단간하되 각 마디에 3~4개의 일차지를 윤생으로 배치하는 변칙주간형이며, 제 3형은 목재 생산만을 위해 지하고(枝下高)가 9m를 넘는 잣나무를 강도(强度)의 가지치기로 주간형(主幹型)을 이루게 하여 곧고 빠른 주간의 성장을 도모하는 방법이다.

  • Newly constructed plate shape control system, using attached shape measuring instruments and work roll bender, was put in service in No. 2 Plate Mill, POSCO. Recently, customers demand the improvement of flatness and plate crown accuracy. Many competition Plate Mill introducted shape control system, for example, pair cross mill, work roll bender which includes shape measuring instrument and shape control mathematical models, and No. 2 Plate Mill, POSCO introducted work roll bender and shape measuring instruments. This report describes the properties of No. 2 Plate Mill shape control system and work roll bender.

  • Strip profile and shape control is one of the most important technologies in cold mill, especially for ultra-thin and wide cold strip. The 6-high mills, both of HCMW and UCMW mill, are known to be very effective for the shape controllability. The optimized values of these factors for set-up scheduling were analyzed and found that excellent strip control would be possible by controlling the combination of the influencing factors according to hot coil profile. The important considerations for operation were discussed for individual stand.

  • Control of crown and flatness in plate rolling is important not only for enhancement of the structural precision of products, but also for improving the yield and rolling operation. In the heavy plate mill, there have been strong demands for upgrading plate crown and flatness. In order to satisfy these demands, it is essential to develop the high precision numerical models. This paper gives a general description of the crown and flatness preset control model, work roll bender system, simulation result for shape control.

형상제어를 위한 새로운 보강롤의 개발 (Development of New Back-Up Roll for Strip Shape Control)

  • Most of shape defects in steel strip are originated from the structure of rolling mill itself. For instance, strip crown occurs when the work roll is deformed by the bending moment induced on roll chocks. To get rids of the shape defects, it is necessary to increase the stiffness of rolling mill. The structure change of back-up roll is one of alternative ways to increase the mill stiffness without facility revamping from 4 high mill to 6 high mill. In this research work, the new back-up roll was developed and can be used in any type of 4 high mill to reduce the strip shape defects. The developed back-up roll consists of sleeve, arbor and phase angle adjusting system for arbor. The circumference of arbor is specially machined to adapt the strip width change during rolling. The experimental cold rolling test was done to prove the effectiveness of newly developed back-up roll. The experimental rolling results show that the new back-up roll has more powerful performance in reducing the shape defects than conventional back-up roll. It was also found that the new back-up roll has higher stability for shape control. In addition to, the only sleeve surface needs to be reground and changed in most cases, so that the maintenance cost can be greatly reduced.

  • SmartCrown is a system to control the plate crown by shifting the sine-shaped work rolls in the axial direction. The control range of the plate crown depends on a depth of sine-shaped roll profile because the roll radius varies continuously along the axial direction. When the roll profile is changed to improve the control range, the contact stress between the work roll and the back-up roll also changes. In the current study, the contact stress for various profiles and rolling conditions were analyzed using the finite element method and compared with results from Hertzian contact theory. A submodel method is used to increase the accuracy of the finite element analysis. The analysis results showed that the maximum increase in the contact stress was only 53MPa, so it is anticipated that no back-up roll spalling will occur.

스테인리스 냉연공정에서 퍼지 형상제어 (A Fuzzy Shape Control Method for the Stainless Steel at the Cold Rolling Process)

  • The strip shape for the stainless steel process has made an issue of the strip quality, and hence the shape control method is developed at the Sendzimir rolling mill (ZRM). ZRM is a stainless cold rolling mill and has actuators for the shape control. They are first intermediate rolls and top crown rolls, which are controlled horizontally and vertically, respectively. The shape control of the stainless steel rolling process has difficulty in obtaining the symmetrical shape. The objective of the shape control is to minimize the shape deviation and to maintain stable state, which keeps symmetrical shape pattern in the lateral direction. The method of the shape recognition employs a least squares method and neural network. The shape deviation is the difference between the target shape and actual shape and is controlled by the fuzzy shape control. The fuzzy shape control using operator's informative knowledge is proposed in this paper. The experiments are carried out online for various stainless materials and sizes. The productivity of the rolling process has increased from 9.0 to 9.4 tons per hour.

  • Good shape on flat rolled product is necessary to meet today's customer quality requirement. To meet the increasing demand in quality of strip shape from downstream customers, POSCO has replaced the Automatic Shape Control(ASC) system with the existing one that had used noncontact type measuring system at No.2 Cold Rolling Mill, Pohang works in October, 1995. The strip shape is influenced by the profile, roll crown, bending control, skew control system, as well as work roll cooling system. We have used ASC to adjust those factors in Cold Rolling Mill that could get a satisfactory result, almost less than .+-.5 1-unit deviation from the target shape. However, the downstream customer(i.e. Continuos Annealing Line) wants a good shape not only at the moment of exit of roll bite, but after rolling without tension. In this investigation, the difference will be discussed and how deal with this problem.
