In this article, the static behavior of non-prismatic sandwich beams composed of functionally graded (FG) materials is investigated for the first time. Two types of beams in which the variation of elastic modulus follows a power-law form are studied. The principle of minimum total potential energy is applied along with the Ritz method to derive and solve the governing equations. Considering conventional boundary conditions, Chebyshev polynomials of the first kind are used as auxiliary shape functions. The formulation is developed within the framework of well-known Timoshenko and Reddy beam theories (TBT, RBT). Since the beams are simultaneously tapered and functionally graded, bending and shear stress pushover curves are presented to get a profound insight into the variation of stresses along the beam. The proposed formulations and solution scheme are verified through benchmark problems. In this context, excellent agreement is observed. Numerical results are included considering beams with various cross sectional types to inspect the effects of taper ratio and gradient index on deflections and stresses. It is observed that the boundary conditions, taper ratio, gradient index value and core to the thickness ratio significantly influence the stress and deflection responses.
In this study, 7 dof (Including warping) beam element was developed to estimate the effects of wagner effects and load height effects on the lateral buckling strength of mono-symmetric I beam. Finite element buckling analysis of mono-symmetric I-shaped girders subjected to transverse loading applied at different heights on the cross-section were conducted. Linear moment gradient were considered, too. In these cases, girders are subjected to both single-curvature and Reverse-curvature bending. An applicability of current LRFD C$\sub$b/ on the mono-symmetric I beam was studied from the finite element results. The problems of current LRFD C$\sub$b/ occurring from load height effects and reverse curvature bending in unbraced length when applied on the mono-symmetric I beam were studied. Solutions to these problems are also presented.

This paper temperature gradient thermally stimulated surface potentian (TG-TSSP) in measurements are applied to the study of the polarity of trapped and ionic carriers in cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) filsm. In the thermally stimulated current in uniform temperature (TSC) of XLPE five peaks appear as indicated of the A B C D and E. In this paper A (at about -120$^{\circ}C$) D (at about 70$^{\circ}C$) and E (at about 110$^{\circ}C$) peaks are investigated. A peak is due to the biassing voltage and biassing temperature. Appear in to the glass transition temperature territory and caused in to the polarization of dipole. D peak is due to the depolarization of ionic space charge and E peak due to the detrapping of carriers injected from the electrodes. TG-TSSP and TSSP are measured to study the polarity of ionic carrier (D peak). In the unsatureated region of ionic space charge polarization, TG-TSSP is lower than TSSP during the initial stage of heating. Result of the experiment for E peak, TG-TSSP is higher than TSSP during the initial stage of heating and these results do not depend on the polarity of biassing voltage, and E peak is concerned with positive carriers (Holes).

This paper investigated the accuracy of the current design formulae for the elastic buckling strength of web-tapered I-beams in AISC-LRFD specification. The basic concept is to replace a tapered beam by an equivalent prismatic beam with a different length, but with a cross section identical to that of the smaller end of the tapered beam. The modification factor, B, is used to account for the stress gradient within the unbraced length and the lateral restraining effects offered by the adjacent segments. The modification factor(B) suggested in AISC-LRFD specification was compared with the finite element method(FEM) results. This paper presented a redefined method to calculate the modification factor(B).
A numerical study for a two dimensional multi-jet with crossflow of the spent fluid has been carried out. Three different distributions of mass-flow rate at 5 jet exits were assumed to see their effects upon the flow characteristics, especially in the jet-flow region. For each distribution, various Reynolds numbers ranging from laminar to turbulent flows were considered. Calculations drew the following items as conclusion. 1) The development of the free jets issued from downstream jets was hindered by the crossflow formed due to jets. Consequently, the free jet was developed into the channel flow without any evident symptom of impingement jet flow characteristics 2) The crossflow induced the pressure gradient along the cross section of jet exits and the value of the pressure gradient increased as going downstream. The crossflow generated also the turbulent kinetic energy as it collied with the downstream jets. 3) The skin friction coefficient along the impingement plate was affected more by the distribution of mass flow rate at jet exits rather than by the Reynolds number. The skin friction coefficient was inversely proportional to the square root of the Reynolds number, regardless of flow regime when a fully developed flow was formed in the jet flow region. 4) The distribution of the skin friction coefficient along the impingement plate was found to be controlled by adjusting the distribution of mass flow rate at jet exits.

Finite element buckling analyses of the monosymmetric I-beams subjected to t ransverse loading applied at different heights with respect to the mid-height of the cross section were conducted. Transverse loads consisting of a mid-span point load and a uniformly distributed load were considered in the investigation. The method suggested in the SRC Guide was compared with the finite element method (FEM) results. This paper presents a more accurate moment gradient correction factor for monosymetric I-beams considering the load height effect. The applicability of this new design method is limited to monosymmetric I-beams in which the degree of monosymetry, ${\rho}$, is from 0.1 to 0.9.
In this study, we applied the long short-term memory (LSTM) model to classify the cryptocurrency price time series. We collected historic cryptocurrency price time series data and preprocessed them in order to make them clean for use as train and target data. After such preprocessing, the price time series data were systematically encoded into the three-dimensional price tensor representing the past price changes of cryptocurrencies. We also presented our LSTM model structure as well as how to use such price tensor as input data of the LSTM model. In particular, a grid search-based k-fold cross-validation technique was applied to find the most suitable LSTM model parameters. Lastly, through the comparison of the f1-score values, our study showed that the LSTM model outperforms the gradient boosting model, a general machine learning model known to have relatively good prediction performance, for the time series classification of the cryptocurrency price trend. With the LSTM model, we got a performance improvement of about 7% compared to using the GB model.

Many gradient-based mathematical methods have been developed and are in use for structural size optimization problems, in which the cross-sectional areas or sizing variables are usually assumed to be continuous. In most practical structural engineering design problems, however, the design variables are discrete. The main objective of this paper is to propose an efficient optimization method for structures with discrete-sized variables based on the harmony search (HS) meta-heuristic algorithm that is derived using penalty function. The recently developed HS algorithm was conceptualized using the musical process of searching for a perfect state of harmony. It uses a stochastic random search instead of a gradient search so that derivative information is unnecessary. In this paper, a discrete search strategy using the HS algorithm with a static penalty function is presented in detail and its applicability using several standard truss examples is discussed. The numerical results reveal that the HS algorithm with the static penalty function proposed in this study is a powerful search and design optimization technique for structures with discrete-sized members.

Since the ZnO varistor is a semiconductor device, the internal thermal distribution during the varistor operation is recognized as an important factor in the performance and deterioration of the varistor. For an optimal varistor structure design, the thermal runaway phenomenon during the varistor operation was interpreted using the Comsol 5.2 analysis program by a finite element analysis. The maximum temperature of the center measured in the cross section of the ZnO varistor was confirmed to increase as the temperature moved from the lower electrode to the center towards the upper electrode up to 572.6 K. The electrodes are thinned so that the influence of the Schottky barrier is not great. The heat gradient balance is determined to be improved when the electrode of the hybrid form is introduced. The thickness, density, pore distribution, impurity uniformity, and particle size of the ZnO varistor are required, and it is determined that the pyrolysis gradient will be improved regardless of the electrode thickness. When these results are applied to design the ZnO varistor, the optimal structure of the ZnO varistor can be obtained.

Chloride is one of the most common threats to reinforced concrete (RC) durability. Alkaline environment of concrete makes a passive layer on the surface of reinforcement bars that prevents the bar from corrosion. However, when the chloride concentration amount at the reinforcement bar reaches a certain level, deterioration of the passive protection layer occurs, causing corrosion and ultimately reducing the structure's safety and durability. Therefore, understanding the chloride diffusion and its prediction are important to evaluate the safety and durability of RC structure. In this study, the chloride diffusion coefficient is predicted by machine learning techniques. Various machine learning techniques such as multiple linear regression, decision tree, random forest, support vector machine, artificial neural networks, extreme gradient boosting annd k-nearest neighbor were used and accuracy of there models were compared. In order to evaluate the accuracy, root mean square error (RMSE), mean square error (MSE), mean absolute error (MAE) and coefficient of determination (R2) were used as prediction performance indices. The k-fold cross-validation procedure was used to estimate the performance of machine learning models when making predictions on data not used during training. Grid search was applied to hyperparameter optimization. It has been shown from numerical simulation that ensemble learning methods such as random forest and extreme gradient boosting successfully predicted the chloride diffusion coefficient and artificial neural networks also provided accurate result.
