  • Low-temperature plasma treatment or sputter etching is of interest as one of the techniques to modify polymer surface. In this study, poly(ethylene terephthalate)(PET), nylon 6 and cotton fabrics dyed three black dyes were subjected to low-temperature argon plasma and also sputter etching. In relation to bathochromic effect, the surface characteristics of the treated fabrics and films were investigated by means of critical surface tension, SEM and ESCA measurement. The depth of shade of fabrics more increased by the sputter etching technique than argon plasma treatment. Many microcraters on the fiber surface formed by the sputter etching resulted in increase of surface area of the fiber and wettability, but the hydrophobic group was increased by the results of ESCA analysis. In particular the change in reflective index of the fibers was much more effective than the chemical composition of the fiber surface on increasing of the depth of shade.

  • Scalability of clustering algorithms is critical issues facing the data mining community. This is particularly true for computationally intense tasks such as data clustering. Random sampling of instances is one possible means of achieving scalability but a pervasive problem with this approach is how to deal with the noise that this introduces in the evaluation of the learning algorithm. This paper develops a new optimization based clustering approach using an algorithms specifically designed for noisy performance. Numerical results illustrate that with this algorithm substantial benefits can be achieved in terms of computational time without sacrificing solution quality.

  • Main purpose of this article is to classify reservoirs corresponding to their physical characteristics, for example, dam height, dam width, age, repair-works history. First of all, data set of 13,976 reservoirs was analyzed using k means and self organized maps. As a result of these analysis, lots of reservoirs have been classified into four clusters. Factors and their critical values to classify the reservoirs into four groups have been founded by generating a decision tree. The path rules to each group seem reasonable since their survivor function showed unique pattern.

  • The performance of active power filter depends on the inverter characteristic, the control method, and the accuracy of reference signal generator. The accuracy of reference generator is the most critical item to determine the performance of active power filter. This paper introduces a novel reference signal generator composed of improved adaptive predictive filter. The performance of proposed reference signal generator was verified by means of simulation with MATLAB. The simulation result confirm that the proposed reference signal generator can be utilized for the active power filter.

  • In this paper, we propose a BTPN (Beta-distributed Timed Petri Net) model which is not only an effective multimedia synchronization and authoring specification model, but also a direct control model for playout of a title. Methods of specification of relationships among all media objects in a title by using the BTPN structure and language, as well as methods of analysis of the BTPN by means of a Remaining Timed Reachability Graph and Timing diagram, are proposed. A concept of critical object path, coming from PERT/CPM, is useful for modeling the uncertainty of playout of a multimedia title and editing of title.

  • In this paper, we propose a hybrid feature extraction method in which Principal Components Analysis is combined with optimized k-Means clustering technique. Our approach hierarchically reduces the redundancy of features with high explanation in principal components analysis for choosing a good subset of features critical to improve the performance of classifiers. Based on this result, we evaluate the performance of intrusion detection by using Support Vector Machine and a nonparametric approach based on k-Nearest Neighbor over data sets with reduced features. The Experiment results with KDD Cup 1999 dataset show several advantages in terms of computational complexity and our method achieves significant detection rate which shows possibility of detecting successfully attacks.

  • In order to care for an ill or injured child, it is crucial that every emergency department (ED) has a minimum set of personnel and resources because the majority of children are brought to the geographically nearest ED. In addition to adequate preparation for basic pediatric emergency care, a comprehensive, specialized healthcare system should be in place for a critically-ill or injured victim. Regionalization of healthcare means a system providing high-quality and cost-effective care for victims who present with alow frequency, but critical condition, such as multiple trauma or cardiac arrest. Within the pediatric field, neonatal intensive care and pediatric trauma care are good examples of regionalization. For successful regionalized pediatric emergency care, all aspects of a pediatric emergency system, from pre-hospital field to hospital care, should be categorized and coordinated. Efforts to set up the pediatric emergency care regionalization program based on a nationwide healthcare system are urgently needed in Korea.

  • Current companies 집중 on how to operate and select projects to achieve the best result. 6sigma projects are chosen in the best suitable concept, which are solved by the 6Sigma experts according to the priority. And every project has to be launched not the view of individual management factors but the total factors, Big Y. Therefore, a process needs to be treated to connect the vital few factors in various processes to improve the yield, which is the main performance criteria in a manufacturing industry This report is to make the total optimization through the Vital-Few mapping between quality characteristics and process factors in a manufacturing line. Accordingly, it means to secure lower variance by making the CTP(Critical To Process) optimization and finally to improve the yield.

  • Truamatic aortic rupture is usually fatal if left untreated. Prompt diagnosis is the cornerstone of suscessful management. But the usual screening tests are non specific and the accuracy of computerized tomography is low, Aortography which is a time consuming procedure may result in false-positive interpretations and significant morbidity. Recently transesophageal echocardiography provides a rapid, effective and relatively safe means of evaluating the distal aortic arch and also affords the opportunity to evaluate the heart during the same study, which may be of benefit in cases of suspected cardiac injury. The experience with the traumatic aortic ruptured patient and a critical review of the literature suggests that transesophageal echocardiography is a useful technique for the diagnosis of ruptured aorta following blunt chest trauma.

  • Shewhart control chart is a basic technique to monitor the state of a process. We observe observations of a group of size four or five in a rational way and plot some statistics (e.g., means and ranges) on the chart. When setting up the control chart, the control limits are calculated based on preliminary 20-40 samples, which were supposedly obtained from stable operating conditions. But it may be hard to believe, especially at the beginning of constructing the chart for the first time, whether the process is stable and hence all samples were generated under the homogeneous operating conditions. In this report we suggest a mechanism to obtain robust control limits under self-criticism. When outliers are present in the sample, we obtain tighter control limits and hence increase the sensitivity of the chart. Examples will be given via simulation study.
