  • Beacon scheduling is considered to be one of the most significant challenges for energy-efficient Low-Rate Wireless Personal Area Network (LR-WPAN) multi-hop networks. The emerging new standard, IEEE802.15.4e, contains a distributed beacon scheduling functionality that utilizes a specific bitmap and multi-superframe structure. However, this new standard does not provide a critical recipe for superframe duration (SD) allocation in beacon scheduling. Therefore, in this paper, we first introduce three different SD allocation approaches, LSB first, MSB first, and random. Via experiments we show that IEEE802.15.4e DSME beacon scheduling performs differently for different SD allocation schemes. Based on our experimental results we propose an adaptive SD allocation (ASDA) algorithm. It utilizes a single indicator, a distributed neighboring slot incrementer (DNSI). The experimental results demonstrate that the ASDA has a superior performance over other methods from the viewpoint of resource efficiency.

  • This study is to analyze factors affecting a growth of online community with perspectives of social network. Particularly this study tries to explore structural phenomenon built by interactions between users in a certain of free board belonging to the online community, in which focuses on one's writing a comments responding on those of others. With using SNA(Social Network Analysis), the social network data calculated from users' interaction shown as their comments were collected to draw out each individual's centrality value representing the structure of the online community and also we estimated duration time and the number of each comments as a proxy variable representing growth of the online community. And then cause-and-effect relationship between individual's centrality value and the duration time and the number of each comment were analyzed. As a result of the analysis, Core-Periphery, Centralization and Reciprocity have significant effects on the duration time and the number of each comment, therefore those significant values representing online structure will give an implication to manage, to promote the online community, to forecast its evolution path and to build critical policies.

  • Resource leveling minimizes resource fluctuations by deferring the earliest start times (ESTs) of non-critical activities within their corresponding total float. The intentional float-consumption for resource leveling purpose reduces the schedule delay contingency. This paper presents a method called Genetic Algorithm based Resource Leveling (GARL) that minimizes resource fluctuations and float-consumption impact over project duration. It identifies activities that are less sensitive to float-consumption and performs resource leveling using those activities. The study is of value to project scheduler because GARL identifies the set of activities to be deferred and the number of shift day(s) of each and every activities in the set within its total float expeditiously. It contributes to establish a baseline schedule which implements an optimal resource leveling plan. A case study is presented to verify the validity and usability of the method. It was confirmed that GARL satisfies the project duration constraint by considering resource fluctuations and float-consumption over project duration.

  • The purpose of this paper is to represent values of acoustic cues for Korean oral stops in the multi-dimensional space, and to attempt to find possible relationships among acoustic cues through correlation analyses. The acoustic cues used for differentiation of 3 types of Korean stops are closure duration, voice onset time and fundamental frequency of a vowel after a stop. The values of these cues are plotted in the two and three dimensional space to see what the critical cues are for separation of different types of stops. Correlation coefficient analyses show that multi-variate approach to statistical analysis is legitimate, and that there are statistically significant relationships among acoustic cues but Oey are not strong enough to make the conjecture that there is a possible relationship among the articulatory or laryngeal mechanisms employed by the acoustic cues.

  • In this study, the urban runoff models, ILLUDAS model and SWMM, are analyzed the probable peak discharge and discharge using rainfall distribution by Huff's method at Bum-uh chun area in Taegu city. The probability rainfall and intensity is analyzed by Pearson-III type. The rainfall duration, 90 minutes, is determined by the critical duration computed the maximun peak discharge for some rainfall durations. The peak discharge according to Huff's rainfall distribution types compute in order of type 3, type 4, type2, and type 1, so Huff's 3 type is selected as an adequate rainfall distribution in Bum-uh chun basin. ILLUDAS model and SWMM are shown as good models in Bum-uh chun, but SWMM is computed higher peak discharge than ILLUDAS model, so SWMM is shown as the adequate urban runoff model for the design of interior drainage in urban basin.

  • The experiments of boiling heat transfer were performed to investigate the boiling enhancement in saturated water by using multi-stage electroplated surface. In order to optimize the boiling performance, current flux and duration in multi-stage electroplating were varied. Current flux, 2 $A/12cm^2$ and 0.33 $A/cm^2$, and duration ranging from 15 second to 50 second are considered. The results showed that multi-stage electro plated surfaces generate enhancement of boiling parameters such as boiling incipient superheat, boiling heat transfer coefficient, and critical heat flux compared to plain surface. The SEM images of the coated surfaces were captured to examine the structure of porous surface, which provides the enhancement of boiling heat transfer.

  • Colin Rowe's 'Transparency' is one of core ideas applied to 20th Modern Architecture. It implies not only an optical characteristic, the perfectly clear, but also a broader spacial order, a simultaneous perception of different spacial locations. The former connected with physical attribute itself, and the latter deeply with the metaphorical idea of time, 'Simultaneity', embodying a new spacial quality. However, If we analyze the meaning of "Simultaneity" implicated in "Transparency" with the perspective of Henry Bergson's "Duration", there would be only little possibility as a solution to the problem of embodying a new spacial quality in architecture. As such a question emerging, this paper attempts to point out the problem of Colin Rowe's idea, "Simultaneity", and suggest a new architectural design method to overcome its inconsistency by interpretation and application of Bergson's "Image and Rhythm".

  • Many methods of estimating design floods from rainfall data involve a trial and error procedure to determine the duration of the design rainfall, which is very complicated and time-consuming. In this study, an effort was given to derive an analytical expression for estimating the appropriate duration for use with a particular unit hydrograph. According to the so-derived analytical expression the coordinateds of hvdrograph curve and rainfall curve for the Musim Representative Basin were computed and then plotted on a same scal graph paper on which the critical durations of design rainfall excess of various recurrence intervals were determined by the point of intersection of the tow curves.

  • This paper, introduces a Stochastic Project Scheduling Simulation system (SPSS III) developed by the author to predict a project completion probability in a certain time. The system integrates deterministic CPM, probabilistic PERT, and stochastic Discrete Event Simulation (DES) scheduling methods into one system. It implements automated statistical analysis methods for computing the minimum number of simulation runs, the significance of the difference between independent simulations, and the confidence interval for the mean project duration as well as sensitivity analysis method in What-if analyzer component. The SPSS 111 gives the several benefits to researchers in that it (1) complements PERT and Monte Carlo simulation by using stochastic activity durations via a web based JAVA simulation over the Internet, (2) provides a way to model a project network having different probability distribution functions, (3) implements statistical analyses method which enable to produce a reliable prediction of the probability of completing a project in a specified time, and (4) allows researchers to compare the outcome of CPM, PERT and DES under different variability or skewness in the activity duration data.

  • Recently, many studies on HSDI diesel engines have been performed to reduce the fuel consumption and $CO_2$ emission. One of the prominent technique to reduce emission is a high pressure multiple injection. For this technique, the injection rate is a critical parameter in order to determine precise injection duration and timing for combustion control. Thus the purpose of this study was to investigate relationship between the injection rate and the time-signature of chamber pressure at different injection pressure conditions in a common rail direct injection type injector using the Zeuch method. Using the measured correlation constants, estimated fuel injection rates are presented at many different injection conditions.
