This study aims to empirically verify the moderating effect of population drop on the relationship between demographic changes and crime decline in local cities facing population decline in Korea. The study employs changes in the population of young adults, men, elderly, foreign residents, and population movement as factors of demographic changes, including types of the city as a control variable in the research model. The rate of change in population drop is used as a moderator variable and the rate of change in crime decline as a dependent variable. Data are collected from 155 cities with declining populations from 2010 to 2022 through KOSIS, the National Statistics Portal, and information disclosure requests. Data collected are analyzed using moderated regression analysis. In the first and second stages of the analysis, they show that changes in the population of young adults, population movement, foreign people, population drop, and the type of city affect the change in crime. Moderated regression analysis shows that only the interaction terms among changes in the population of young adults, changes in population movement, and changes in the population of foreigners and the population drop affects change in crime significantly.

The purpose of thesis is to examine the two aspects of realities and fear of criminal victimization in the old. It also intends to provide useful date for criminal victimization prevention strategies and looks for alternatives promoting social welfare of the old in our society. For this, some important theories about criminal victimization and compensating of crime victims are reviewed as theoretical backgrounds. In addition to theoretical reviews, to identify realities of criminal victimization and fear of crime among the old, empirical survey was conducted using questionnaires about 200 respondents of 60 years old in Taegu.

본 연구는 대한민국의 나날이 증가하는 범죄에 대한 문제의식을 바탕으로 주요 강력범죄 중 여성을 대상으로 삼는 범죄의 심각성에 대하여 초점을 두고 있다. 특히 4대 강력범죄 중 살인, 강간의 경우 여성이 피해자가 되는 경우가 매우 높게 나타나고 있으며, 최근 데이트 폭력 및 몰카범죄 등이 심각한 사회문제가 되고 있는 실정이다. 이에 여성을 대상으로 하는 범죄의 경우 다양한 기술이 결합된 CPTED를 활용하여 사회적 안전 확보 및 효과적인 환경설계를 통한 범죄예방 방안에 대하여 연구하였다.

Neighborhood Parks are important facilities for urban residents, which provide recreation and vitality to users. But it can degenerate into crime-ridden area in the absence of control system. Recently, Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design is confirmed to be effective for safety enhancement, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport promulgates enforcement regulation about urban parks and greens. In the enforcement regulation, consideration of CPTED in park design is mandatory. However, there is no systematic guideline for the application and continuous maintenance control. So we develop evaluation indicators of neighborhood park about CPTED, and verify the weighted value of the evaluation indicator through survey targeting related field experts. Then, we evaluate safety of neighborhood parks in Busan using developed evaluation indicators, by three types of CPTED application level. On the physical design elements Busan Citizen Park which applied CPTED method from the design phase received the remarkably hightest score, whereas, on the social elements score was investigated differently in accordance with characteristics of each park.

As the revision of Building Code including applying crime prevention design to buildings passed recently and target hardening ought to be evidence-based, we studied the Modus Operandi (MO) and intrusion tools of domestic burglary to earn basic data for improvement of crime prevention hardware in the future. To be specific, we reviewed related academic literature and police official statistics of domestic burglary critically and interviewed detectives in charge of burglary to specify and categorize MO and tools. We can derive some implications from research findings, including improvement of the statistical system for the MO of burglary, active sharing of the MO of burglary among the criminal justice agencies and related industries and experts. Also, crime prevention advice and education for the local residents focused on MO of burglary can be recommended. Based on this research, to enhance the level of community safety significantly, performance tests of crime prevention hardware such as security doors and windows etc. and the study on related certification system should be vitalized.

The increasing trend of the five violent crimes (murder, robbery, rape, violence, theft) in Korea is not independent of social and economic factors. Several social science research have discussed about this issue but most of them do not properly reflect the nature of the time-series data. Based on several time series models, we studied about the endogenous factors (time, seasonal and cycle factors) and exogenous factors (economical, social change and crime control factors) on violent crime occur in Korea. Autocorrelation were also taken into account. Through this study, we want to help to make preventive policy by explaining the cause of violent crime and predicting the future incidence of it.

The purpose of the paper is to provide policy suggestions for effectively tackling subway crimes, based on the UK and USA's crime control strategies and systems of subway crimes. The paper attempts to analyze the characteristics of subway crimes in Seoul Subways, and discovers that many of the crimes on the subways are basically 'opportunistic' crimes. In particular, crime statistics of Seoul Subways clearly show that sexual-related crimes are on the sharp increase. In this context, it is of great essence that official vigilance functions should be strengthened in order to eliminate crime opportunities in Seoul Subways. Based on such an analysis - in particular, focusing on official surveillance and response capabilities of subway passengers - the paper finally presents policy recommendations as follows: 1) an increase in the number of police officers of the Subway Police Squad, 2) an increase in the number of CCTV cameras and their effective use, 3) the development of subway riders' defence abilities, 4) strong law enforcement against minor disorder offences based on zero-tolerance policing, and 5) the reinforcement of community partnerships.

The physical environment can dramatically affect students' feeling and their behavior, educational attainment, and the way in which we do school activities. Unlimited access to campus areas without appropriate securities have reported an increase of crime in school area and safety issues has encouraged school facility planners to install securities devices at every corner of buildings. However, it is still questionable whether this approach is enough to protect students and staffs from the victimization of crime, including thefts, burglaries and sexual offences. There has been continued doubt about the safety of educational facilities where individual college students are studying and enjoying extra-curricular activities. Therefore, the purpose of this study is intended to investigate the effects of perception of safety by students on the level of academic performance at public outdoor environment of university campus. An extensive literature noted that the central element of modern school design principle mainly holds the theory of crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) and the concept of defensible space. The second generation of CPTED also focused on social soft issues as well as situational factors, which extends beyond mere physical design to include social factors. The correlation analysis found that the effect of sense of safety does appear to be statistically significant on the facilitation of academic achievement. However, the analysis of Chi-square concluded that the perception of safety was not related to demographic and socio-economic profiles of the group except for gender. Further, stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that the most prime predictor for academic achievement were 'safe public outdoor space/paths' at university campus environment, implying careful design of public open space and sidewalks based on the guideline of CPTED. The study also demonstrated that as the level of positive perception of safety rose, the overall academic achievement also responded to the specified rate (${\beta}=.99$). Finally, the findings reinforce an evidence that high-quality school environments are a positive factor in student academic performance.

Criminal Mediation System in Korea, it did pilot operation by Crime Victim Support Centers such as Daejeon and other two District Prosecutors' Office in April 2006. And starting 2007, Crime Victim Support Centers and Criminal Mediation System conducted from 57 District Attorney's Office and Branch Offices and now 2016, Criminal Mediation System is operated in all the District Attorney's Office. On the other hand, the Attorney General's Office established the 'Criminal mediation practical operating instructions' in October 2009 and created its legal basis at "Crime Victims Protection Act" in September 2010. It seems that the criminal mediation have to operate as the direction for supporting crime victims recovery. However, it seems that the overall infrastructure of the criminal mediation system is built. But I have experienced this through G Attorney's Office as a Criminal mediator activity from 2007 to 2016 now, some issues have emerged such as weak on personal safety in criminal mediation room, etc. Thus, in this paper, I will examine the problems about this and propose improvements of criminal mediation system to fit the practical criminal mediation.
