Actually, The present traffic accident detection system is subsisting limitation of accurate distinction under the crowded condition at intersection because the system depend upon mainly the image information at intersection and digital image processing techniques nearly all. To complement this insufficiency, this article aims to estimate the level of present technology and a realistic possibility by analyzing the acoustic characteristic of crash sound that we have to investigate for improvement of traffic accident detection rate at intersection. The skid sound of traffic accident is showed the special pattern at $1[kHz]{\sim}3[kHz}$ bandwidth when vehicles are almost never operated in and around intersection. Also, the frequency bandwidth of vehicle crash sound is showed sound pressure difference over 30[dB] higher than when there is no occurrence of traffic accident below 500[Hz].

Introduction : Head trauma is the main cause of death in aircraft crash. In a Michigan study of structurally survivable, fatal accidents, 80% of the fatally injured had received head trauma. We tried to develop a new helmet for passengers, and perform its efficiency test. Methods : An aircraft helmet requires an excellent protection against head trauma, lightness, and small volumes. In addition, it must be wearable, fire resistant, and non toxic when it is burning. We developed two new helmets made from silicone foam which met all theses requirements. One was thin (2.5cm), and the other was thick (6.3cm). These looked like a motorcycle helmet and had only a soft silicone as liner material without an outer hard shell. Therefore we can carry them easily inside aircrafts. The standard test for helmet is Snell's drop test. It measures the impact acceleration of head shaped metal wearing helmet during we drop it at certain heights. Impact sites were total 5 sites (front, back, right, left and top) for each helmet. All these sites were impacted twice. Results : The thickness of impact sites varied from 2.5cm to 6.3cm. The impact acceleration of 2.5cm thickness site when it was dropped from 1.0 meter was 379g. But, that of 6.3cm thickness site when it was dropped from 1.5 meter was only 163g. Unfortunately, both helmets didn't meet the Snell Standard for motorcycle helmets. Discussion : If we add suitable outer hard shell, and change its thickness and design, the efficiency will be increased. A study indicated that helmet could reduce the risk of head trauma up to 85%. We made helmet for passengers in aircraft crash for the first time. If we improve its weak points, it will decrease the frequency of head trauma in aircraft craft.

PURPOSES : In this study, we analyzed the road crossing behavior of older pedestrians on a mid-block signalized crosswalk, and compared it to that of younger pedestrians. In addition, we analyzed the correlation between accidents involving older pedestrians while crossing roads and their behavioral characteristics. Finally, we confirmed the reasons for an increase in accidents involving older pedestrians. METHODS : First, 30 areas with the highest incidence of accidents involving older pedestrians while crossing roads were selected as target areas for analysis. Next, we measured the start-up delay (the time elapsed from the moment the signal turns green to the moment the pedestrian starts walking) and head movement (the number of head turns during crossing a road) of 900 (450 older and 450 younger) pedestrians. The next step was to conduct a survey and confirm the differences in judgment between older and younger pedestrians about approaching vehicles. Finally, we analyzed the correlation between the survey results and traffic accidents. RESULTS : The average start-up delay and head movement of the older pedestrians was 1.58 seconds and 3.15 times, respectively. A definite correlation was obtained between head movement and the frequency of pedestrian traffic accidents. The results of our survey indicate that 17.3% of the older pedestrians and 7.8% of the younger pedestrians have a high crash risk. CONCLUSIONS : Behavioral characteristics of older pedestrians were closely correlated with accidents involving older pedestrians while crossing roads in mid-block signalized crosswalks. Our study indicates that in order to reduce the number of accidents involving older pedestrians, it is necessary to develop an improvement plan including measures such as installation of safety facilities taking the behavioral characteristics of older pedestrians into consideration and their safety education.

Coverage-guided fuzzing is an efficient solution that has been widely used in software testing. By guiding fuzzers through the coverage information, seeds that generate new paths will be retained to continually increase the coverage. However, we observed that most samples follow the same few high-frequency paths. The seeds that exercise a high-frequency path are saved for the subsequent mutation process until the user terminates the test process, which directly affects the efficiency with which the low-frequency paths are tested. In this paper, we propose a fuzzing solution, ER-Fuzz, that truncates the recording of a high-frequency path to influence coverage. It utilizes a deep learning-based classifier to locate the high and low-frequency path transfer points; then, it instruments at the transfer position to promote the probability low-frequency transfer paths while eliminating subsequent variations of the high-frequency path seeds. We implemented a prototype of ER-Fuzz based on the popular fuzzer AFL and evaluated it on several applications. The experimental results show that ER-Fuzz improves the coverage of the original AFL method to different degrees. In terms of the number of crash discoveries, in the best case, ER-Fuzz found 115% more unique crashes than did AFL. In total, seven new bugs were found and new CVEs were assigned.
Motor vehicle accidents in rear impacts cause more than fifty percents of drivers to suffer from neck injuries. It is known that most neck injuries are associated with rear-end collisions at a speed lower than 32 km/h and between the Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) 1 and AIS 2. Two different types of low speed crash tests such as the frontal barrier and rear moving barrier crashes have been conducted by following the procedure of the Research Committee for Automobile Repairs (RCAR). The injury for the neck and the Head Injury Criteria (HIC) were measured by using the sensors mounted on dummies. We reviewed neck injures and the relationship between the neck and head injuries, and examined the deceleration of the body. Using the experimental test data at the neck, we investigated an improved neck injury criterion Nij. Also, the effects of the position of a head restraint on reducing the frequency and severity of the neck injury in rear-end collisions were investigated.

This study is a study on the development of AEBS test scenarios for traffic accidents in Korea, and was compared and analyzed using the Traffic Accident Analysis Program. To ensure the safety of passengers and pedestrians in traffic accidents, the number of cars equipped with ADAS is increasing rapidly at all car manufacturers in each country. For traffic accidents used in this study, the domestic traffic accident database (ACCC) produced by SAMSONG was used. Domestic traffic accidents differ from overseas traffic accidents in terms of road type, signal system, driver's seat location and number of vehicles. ACCC databases, which supplemented and reinforced these differences, built a database based on the PC-CRASH program. In the study, we analyze the types of accidents to develop comparative scenarios for each type of road and collision type of traffic accidents. When the road types of traffic accidents in Korea were divided into five types and the collision types were divided into six, it was confirmed that the most types of FRONT-SIDE crashes appeared at the intersection. It is expected that the frequency of possible traffic accidents and collision types can be predicted according to the road type in the accident database, we that it can be used as an AEBS test scenario development suitable for the domestic road environment.
Generally, traffic accidents can be influenced by variables driving conditions including geometric, roadside design, and traffic conditions. Under the circumstance, homogeneous roadway segments were firstly identified using typical geometric variables obtained from field data collections in this study. These field data collections were conducted at highways located in several areas having various regional conditions for examples, outside metropolitan city; level and rolling rural areas. Due to many zero cells in crash database, a Zero Inflated Poisson model was used to develop crash prediction model to overestimated results in this study. It was found that EXPO, radius, grade, guardrail, mountainous terrain, crosswalk and bus-stop have statistically significant influence on vehicle to vehicle crashes at rural multi-lane roadway segments.
PURPOSES : The objective of this study is to identify the characteristics affecting traffic accidents that have occurred in 564 industrial complexes nationwide from 2011 to 2015. METHODS : The traffic accidents were specified using various factors such as industrial complex type (national VS. general), industrial complex degradation (old VS. non-old), location of complex (capital VS. non-capital), and traffic law violation (speeding, signal violation, and median invasion). The average number of crashes and accident ratio (fatal, severe, and both) in terms of characteristics of industrial complexes were calculated. With a sample of crashes of the industrial complexes for 5 years, statistical significances were tested to analyze and compare the differences based on industrial complex and traffic law characteristics using parametric and non-parametric methods. RESULTS : From statistical results, it is observed that the crash frequency occurring in old industrial complexes is three times higher than that in non-old industrial complexes. Old industrial complexes located in a capital area, old national industrial complexes, and old general industrial complexes are considerably related to higher crash frequency, but the fatal accident ratio appeared to have no statistical difference across industrial complex characteristics. Severe crashes are more likely to occur in non-old industrial complexes on an average. CONCLUSIONS : It is necessary to eliminate potential threats to roads and traffic in the same manner as illegal parking in industrial complexes through the restoration of old industrial complexes. To improve the efficiency of road infrastructure, efforts should be made to improve traffic safety in accordance with industrial characteristics such as planning and operation of relevant local government programs.

This study tested the hypothesis that the significance of the heterogeneous dispersion parameter in safety performance function (SPF) used to estimate the expected crashes is affected by the endogenous heterogeneous prior distributions, and analyzed the impacts of the mis-specified dispersion parameter on the evaluation results for traffic safety countermeasures. In particular, this study simulated the Poisson means based on the heterogeneous dispersion parameters and estimated the SPFs using both the negative binomial (NB) model and the heterogeneous negative binomial (HNB) model for analyzing the impacts of the model mis-specification on the mean and dispersion functions in SPF. In addition, this study analyzed the characteristics of errors in the crash reduction factors (CRFs) obtained when the two models are used to estimate the posterior means and variances, which are essentially estimated through the estimated hyper-parameters in the heterogeneous prior distributions. The simulation study results showed that a mis-estimation on the heterogeneous dispersion parameters through the NB model does not affect the coefficient of the mean functions, but the variances of the prior distribution are seriously mis-estimated when the NB model is used to develop SPFs without considering the heterogeneity in dispersion. Consequently, when the NB model is used erroneously to estimate the prior distributions with heterogeneous dispersion parameters, the mis-estimated posterior mean can produce large errors in CRFs up to 120%.
