Precast concrete can be used to reduce construction period and enhance construct ability. However structural problems could be occurred due to the wrong application of boundary condition and misunderstanding of structural behavior in the process of segmentation of original structure system. I experienced a serious deflections and cracks due to the increase of bending moment and creep after the construction of precast concrete slab, and we learned that this is from the misunderstanding of support conditions and structure behaviors of precast slab panel. Two support columns under the precast slab are inserted to reduce the bending moment, and the camber according to jacking force should be estimated for the structural safety during the reinforcing work. A proper support condition and the flexural stiffness of precast concrete slab were applied to check the deflection and crack for existing structure by inverse analysis, and we can estimate the camber according to jacking force of the precast concrete slab, and suggest a method to make safe structure.
The functions of diaphragms at abutments and piers of PSC box girder railway bridge are to transfer forces from the superstructure onto bearings or columns and to stiffen the superstructure cross-section against in -plane deformation. Due to stress disturbance at diaphragm, the design for the diaphragm using conventional design method is relatively irrational than those for other structural members. And, due to contribution to boundary condition of deck slab by the diaphragm, the behavior of deck slab near the diaphragm is different from that of the deck slab obtained from two dimensional analysis of the bridge, which is basis for the design of deck slab. In this paper, three dimensional behavior of deck slab near the diaphragm of prestressed concrete (PSC) box girder railway bridge constructed by the precast span method are analyzed by using three dimensional finite element modeling and using the strut-and-tie model design of the diaphragm are presented. The modeling techniques used in this paper can be applied effectively to examine the causes of cracks at deck slab near diaphragm and to design diaphragm rationally.

The crack of concrete induced by the heat of hydration is a serious problem, particularly in concrete structures such as underground box structure, mat-slab of nuclear reactor buildings, dams or large footings, foundations of high rise buildings, etc.. As a result of the temperature rise and restriction condition of foundation, the thermal stress which may induce the cracks can occur. Therefore the various techniques of the thermal stress control in massive concrete have been widely used. One of them is prediction of the thermal stress, besides low-heat cement which mitigates the temperature rise, pre-cooling which lowers the initial temperature of fresh concrete with ice flake, pipe cooling which cools the temperature of concrete with flowing water, design change which considers steel bar reinforcement, operation control and so on. The objective of this paper is largely two folded. Firstly we introduce the cracks control technique by employing low-heat cement mix and thermal stress analysis. Secondly it show the application condition of the cracks control technique like sidewall of LNG in Inchonl.

Non-destructive methods such as rebound hardness method and ultrasonic method are widely studied for evaluating the physical properties, condition and damage of concrete, but are not suitable for detecting delamination and cracks near the surface due to various constraints of the site as well as the accuracy. Therefore, in this study, the impact resonance method was applied to detect the separation cracks occurring near the surface of the concrete slab and bridge deck. As a next step, the principal component analysis were performed by extracting various features using the FFT data. As a result of principal component analysis, it was analyzed that the reliability was high in distinguishing defects in concrete. This feature extraction and application of principal component analysis can be used as basic data for future use of machine learning technique for the better accuracy.

In this paper, an analytical model for estimation of the time at which the concrete surface begins to dry is introduced to predict whether or not plastic shrinkage cracks occur. First of all, the validity of a consolidation model for bleeding of cement paste proposed by Tan et al. is verified by comparing the analytical results with the experimental results, and used to evaluate the rate and amount of bleed water of concrete. Also an analytical model for evaporation of bleed water which considers the effect of the temperature variation of concrete surface due to hydration heat on the evaporation rate is proposed, and the experimental and analytical results are then compared to verify the validity of the introduced model. In advance, the time at which the concrete surface begins to dry is estimated using above two analytical models, and compared with the experimental results about the time at which plastic shrinkage cracks occur. From the comparison, it is verified that the proposed model can predict the occurrence of plastic shrinkage cracking with comparative precision.

The voided slab have many advantages, light weight, high load-distribution capacity, low cost and beautiful appearance, etc. But they have also many cracks due to difficulties in designs and construction, analysis, shrinkage, installation and rising force of voided tube. This paper presents the retrofit effects with steel plate(SP)/carbon fiber sheet(CFS) of RC voided slab. As a results of this study, it proved that the strip pattern has to be profitable than full-face pattern in performance such as crack, ultimate loads, stiffness. Retrofit length has many influence on retrofit effects, as the length increases, performance and stability of end blocks higher. Also, it proved that the retrofit on full-section has to be profitable than voided-section in performance, and the overlay length of CFS is desirable to extent approximately and welding(V-cut) has to be efficient than anchors in SP connection. But the kinds of end block and anchor has not influence on retrofit effects.
This research was conducted to analyze the behavior of PTCP (Post-Tensioned prestressed Concrete Pavement) under tensioning by performing field tests when the experimental PTCP slab was being constructed. The displacements in the slab under the environmental loading and tensioning were measured using temperature measurement sensors and displacement transducers. Tensioning was performed three times and appropriateness of tensioning could be determined by investigating the relationship between temperature and displacement, behavior of transverse crack, and daily change in displacement. The results of this study showed that under the first tensioning at very early age, large displacements were observed only near the joints because of the friction between slab and underlying layer and concrete inelasticity. Under consecutive tensioning, displacements were clearly observed all over the slab, but still affected by the friction. In addition, appropriate tensioning ensured the one-slab behavior of the PTCP slab even though cracks existed.

Many problems in various aspects such as generation of plastic/dry contraction cracks and cold joints can be caused unless proper quality control measures are established in hot weather circumstances. Therefore, this study aimed to compare the crack patterns of concrete by applying a change in 3 surface curing methods such as a mono aluminum-deposited bubble sheet developed to reduce the temperature and cracks through reflection of heat in summer and a PE film and a surface exposure used generally to an actually constructed apartment slab. The study result confirmed that the best concrete crack reduction effect can be obtained with a mono aluminum-deposited bubble sheet.
