Current diesel engines are usually equipped with turbochargers for improving fuel economy as well as meeting more stringent emission regulations. These turbochargers usually cause noise problems because they spins vey high such as 100,000 to 200,000 rpm, These noises are largely divided into whistle and whine noises. The frequency of whistle noise corresponds to their rotation speed, and the frequency of whine noise does to the multiplication of their rotation speed and the number of compressor blades. Turbocharger manufacturers developed a special type of compressor, effectively compressing air sucked from a duct; Recirculation Compressor Cover (RCC) or Map Width Enhancement (MWE). This special structure improves turbocharger's capability by expanding compressor's working area, but it seriously causes a noise problem, whine noise. There were many trials to surpress the noise occurred inside a compressor such as modification of a compressor, noise baffles or secondary measurements. However, it was currently concluded that the whine noise caused by the special compressor can not be reduced to that done by a standard compressor, and the strength difference of whine noises between the two compressors is not negligible. Thus, the standard compressor is decided to be applied to a newly developing heavy-duty diesel engine in order to resolve the turbocharger noise problem with a stiffened suction duct directly connected to a compressor.

In this study a methodology to evaluate fatigue life of the electronic parts for the fighter radar unit under random vibration loading is presented. To do this, one parameter for the 3-σ RMS quation of Steinberg fatigue model is modified to come up with a printed circuit board(PCB) with multiple electronic parts, while fundamental frequency and dynamic deflection of the PCB are calculated from a MATLAB based finite element computer code. For the RIFA structure selected in this study, the 3-σ RMS fatigue limit displacement is reduced to 0.741 times as much as the Steinberg model. This investigation allows to assess the life of multiple electronic parts mounted on the PCB with reinforced metal cover/body showing non-sinusoidal deflection patterns.

Traditional clustering methods are usually based on the bag-of-words (BOW) model. A disadvantage of the BOW model is that it ignores the semantic relationship among terms in the data set. To resolve this problem, ontology or matrix factorization approaches are usually used. However, a major problem of the ontology approach is that it is usually difficult to find a comprehensive ontology that can cover all the concepts mentioned in a collection. This paper proposes a new document clustering method using semantic features and fuzzy relations for solving the problems of ontology and matrix factorization approaches. The proposed method can improve the quality of document clustering because the clustered documents use fuzzy relation values between semantic features and terms to distinguish clearly among dissimilar documents in clusters. The selected cluster label terms can represent the inherent structure of a document set better by using semantic features based on non-negative matrix factorization, which is used in document clustering. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method achieves better performance than other document clustering methods.
Purpose: Disaster as traffic accident, industrial disaster, high voltage electrical bum and flame burn of extremity have a destructive effect because of the involvement of deep structure. Generally, such injury may result in decreased function or loss of limb. In this study the successful use of the combined scapular/parascapular flap as microsurgical transfer to cover extensive defect of electrical and flame bum is reported. Material and Method: Between January 2000 and June 2001, the combined scapular and parascapular flap was used for the coverage of soft tissue defect for 7 patients were admitted to our department with high voltage electrical bum and flame burn. The recipient site were the wrist joint in 2 cases, the forearm in 1 case, the ankle joint in 1 case, the foot dorsum in 1 case, the heel in 1 case. Result: Flap survival was complete in all patients. The result of flap coverage for these deep wound was successful. Conclusion: The advantages of scapular/parascapular combined flap were coverage of the large defect, easy shaping of the flap to fit the required three dimensional configuration around the joint, non hair bearing skin of uniform thickness, minimal donor site morbidity.

This paper proposes a hybrid pseudo-noise (PN) code acquisition scheme for Multicarrier Direct Sequence - Code Division Multiple Access (MC DS-CDMA) mobile communication systems on the code acquisition performance for Nakagami-m fading channel. The hybrid acquisition scheme combines parallel search with serial search to cover the whole uncertainty region of the input code phase. It has a much simpler acquisition hardware structure than the total parallel acquisition and can achieve the mean acquisition time (MAT) slightly inferior to that of the total parallel acquisition. The closed-form expressions of the detection and false-alarm probabilities are derived.
Vegetation cover plays a vital role in stabilizing the soil structure, thereby contributing to surface erosion control. Surface vegetation acts as a shelterbelt that controls the flow velocity and reduces the kinetic energy of the water near the soil surface, whereas vegetation roots reinforce the soil via the formation of root-particle interactions that reduce particle detachment. In this study, two vegetation-testing trials were conducted. The first trial was held on cool-season turfgrasses seeded in a biopolymer-treated site soil in an open greenhouse. At the end of the test, the most suitable grass type was suggested for the second vegetation test, which was conducted in an environmental control chamber. In the second test, biopolymers, namely, starch and xanthan gum hydrogels (pure starch, pure xanthan gum, and xanthan gum-starch mixtures), were tested as soil conditioners for improving the water-holding capacity and vegetation growth in sandy soils. The results support the possibility that biopolymer treatments may enhance the survival rate of vegetation under severe drought environments, which could be applicable for soil stabilization in arid and semiarid regions.

In this study, Semi-active Tuned Mass Dampers (STMDs) are employed in order to cover the prevailing uncertainties and promote the efficiency of the Tuned Mass Dampers (TMDs) to mitigate undesirable structural vibrations. The damping ratio is determined using type-1 and type-2 Fuzzy Logic Controllers (T1 and T2 FLC) based on the response of the structure. In order to increase the efficiency of the FLC, the output membership functions are optimized using genetic algorithm. The results show that the proposed FLC can reduce the sensitivity of STMD to excitation records. The obtained results indicate the best operation for T1 FLC among the other control systems when the uncertainties are neglected. According to the irrefutable uncertainties, three supplies for these uncertainties such as time delay, sensors measurement noises and the differences between real and software model, are investigated. Considering these uncertainties, the efficiencies of T1 FLC, ground-hook velocity-based, displacement-based and TMD reduce significantly. The reduction rates for these algorithms are 12.66%, 26.43%, 20.98% and 21.77%, respectively. However, due to nonlinear behavior and considering a range of uncertainties in membership functions, T2 FLC with 7.2% reduction has robust performance against uncertainties compared to other controlling systems. Therefore, it can be used in actual applications more confidently.
A submerged breakwater is one of the coastal structures used to reduce wave energy and coastal erosion. However, a submerged breakwater has a negative aspect in that a strong rip current occurring around an open inlet due to a difference in mean water levels at the front and rear sides of the structure leads to scouring. Such scouring has a bad effect on its stability. In order to eliminate this kind of demerit, this study investigated an artificial reef of the overflow type with openings. We also developed a program where the flows around the artificial reef of the overflow type could be analyzed numerically. An unstructured grid system was used to cover the various geometries, and the level set method was applied to treat the movement of the free surface. To verify these numerical schemes, hydraulic physical tests were performed on the submerged breakwater and double breaking type artificial reef. Then, the wave height and velocity distribution around the reef were examined using the experimental results. Comparisons between the results of hydraulic and numerical tests showed reasonable agreement.
The riblet structure like shark skin has been widely studied owing to its drag reduction and anti-fouling properties. In this study we simulated the wettability of an oil droplet on a riblet surface. We developed a numerical analysis method using the Wenzel equation and Cassie-Baxter equation that can estimate the contact angle with a penetrated depth of the droplet on rough surfaces. Riblet surfaces with nine scales composed of five hemi-elliptical ribs are generated numerically. The variation of contact angles with fractional depth of penetration for the generated riblet surfaces with and without coatings is demonstrated in the condition of solid-air-oil and solid-water-oil interfaces. The contact angle for the uncoated surface decreases with increasing fractional depth of penetration more drastically than that for the coated surface. For the effect of surface roughness on the contact angle of the droplet, the oleophilic surface gives lower contact angle when the surface is rougher, whereas the oleoophobic surface gives higher contact angle with higher roughness To verify the analysis results, the wetting angle was measured in the solid-air-oil interface and solid-water-oil interface for the shark-skin template and shark-skin replica. The effects of teflon coating were also evaluated. It is shown that the simulation results cover the experimental ones.
Magnesium alloys are used in electronic devices such as laptops due to their lightweight features as well as vibration absorption and electromagnetic shielding properties. However, the precision of electronics is limited by the large number of small and precise ribs, the cost-effective manufacture of which requires appropriate technology. Plate forging is an efficient manufacturing process that can address these challenges. In this study, plate forging of magnesium alloys was investigated specifically for the fabrication of laptop cover. The plate forging process with back-pressure was used for near-net shape formation. Finite element analysis was used to select appropriate variables for back-pressure formation to generate ribs of various sizes and shapes without defects. The reliability of the analysis was verified to manufacture the prototype. The effect of back-pressure can be verified via fabrication of prototypes as well as structure and forming analysis based on finite element method. The process design factor of back-pressure increases formability without defects of under-filling and flow-through. Moreover, the tensile strength was maintained even after high temperature plate forging at 370 ℃, and the elongation was improved.
