  • As wireless power transfer (WPT) technology using strongly coupled electromagnetic resonators is a recently explored technique to realize the large power delivery and storage without any cable or wire, this technique is required for diffusion of electric vehicles (EVs) since it makes possible a convenient charging system. Typically, since the normal conducting coils are used as a transmitting coil in the CPT system, there is limited to deliver the large power promptly in the contactless EV charging system. From this reason, we proposed the combination CPT technology with HTS transmitting antenna, it is called as, superconducting contactless power transfer for EV (SUWPT4EV) system. As the HTS coil has an enough current density, it can deliver a mass amount of electric energy in spite of a small scale antenna. The SUCPT4EV system has been expected as a noble option to improve the transfer efficiency of large electric power. Such a system consists of two resonator coils; HTS transmitting antenna (Tx) coil and normal conducting receiver (Rx) coil. Especially, the impedance matching for each resonator is a sensitive and plays an important role to improve transfer efficiency as well as delivery distance. In this study, we examined the improvement of transmission efficiency and properties for HTS and copper antennas, respectively, within 45 cm distance. Thus, we obtained improved transfer efficiency with HTS antenna over 15% compared with copper antenna. In addition, we achieved effective impedance matching conditions between HTS antenna and copper receiver at radio frequency (RF) power of 370 kHz.

  • This paper dealt with the insulation evaluation by a measurement of partial discharge(PD) on traction motors used in a hybrid vehicle. The PD method has been accepted as an effective and a non-destructive. technique to evaluate insulation performance of low-voltage electric and electronic devices. In this paper, the PD measurement system which was manufactured with a coupling network, a low noise amplifier, and an associated electronics is described. The PD measurement system has the frequency bandwidth of $1[MHz]{\sim}30[MHz]$ at -3 [dB] and the stable sensitivity of 19 [mV/pC] for the traction motor. From the experimental results, discharge inception voltage (DIV) and apparent charge (q) were $1,100[V_{rms}]$ and 105 [pC] for the used motor, and $1,400[V_{rms}]$ and 84 [pC] for the new one. By comparing the DIV and q, we could evaluate the insulation condition for the traction motors.

  • Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) using communications, sensors, and navigation equipment will play a key role in future warfare. Currently, UAVs are monitored to prevent misfire and accidents, and the conventional method adopted uses wires for data transmission and power supply. The repeated connection and disconnection of cables increases maintenance time and harms the connector. For convenience and stability, a wireless power transfer system to power UAVs is needed. Unlike other wireless power transfer (WPT) applications, the size of the receiving coils must be small, so that the WPT systems can be embedded inside space-limited UAVs. The small size reduces the coupling coefficient and transfer efficiency between the transmitting and the receiving coils. In this study, we propose a toroidal-shaped coil for a WPT system for UAVs with high coupling coefficient with minimum space requirements. For validation, conventional coils and the proposed toroidal-shaped coil were used and their coupling coefficient and power transfer efficiency were compared using simulated and measured results. The simulated and measured results were strongly correlated, confirming that the proposed WPT system significantly improved efficiency with negligible change in the space requirement.

  • This paper describes the launching characteristics of a passenger car using a Push-Belt type Continuously Variable Transmission(CVT) which equipped a wet type multi-plate clutch asa starting device and a solid flywheel with a torsional damper for a torsional coupling device. To reduce the torsional vibration of the drive-line , some torsional coupling devices were used for the passenger car equipped CVT having the clutch as a starting device especially . In this study, we developed the computer simulation program to investigate the launching characteristics of a passenger car equipped CVT using the mathematical models of this system. For the mathematical models of the vehicle, the CVT, the we type multi-plate clutch and the torsional damper, we obtained the specification and the necessary data through the reverse engineering of those. For the verification of our analysis, we performed the test of prototype car with different throttle positions at road and dynamometer. The launching characteristics of a passenger car considered here an acceleration performance and an ascending performance.

  • In this study, the synchronous control system is designed to restrain the speed difference generated between two propellers, namely, synchronous error in a dual electric propulsion system of unmanned surface vehicle, fish finder boat, etc. The control system based on coupling structure is composed of pre-filters and speed controllers for each propulsion system and a synchronous controller cross-coupled between two propulsion systems. The pre-filter and speed controller are designed in order that the propulsion system may follow the speed reference without overshoot and input saturation. And the synchronous controller is designed in consideration of damping and quickness of the synchronous controller system after analyzing effect of the skew disturbance and mismatched dynamic characteristics on synchronous error. Finally, the simulation results show that the designed control system is effective for elimination of synchronous error.

  • The wireless power transfer (WPT) charging system for AGV depends highly on the coupling conditions due to air gap variation. To attain stable output power with high transfer efficiency under various coupling conditions, a single-stage, DC-DC converter that operates with robustness to changes in air gaps is proposed for the WPT system. The proposed converter is capable of soft switching under the set input voltage (Vin: 380 VDC), load conditions (0-1 kW), and air gap changes (30-70 mm). In addition, a wide output voltage range (Vo: 39-54 VDC) can be controlled by varying the link voltage due to the phase control at a fixed switching frequency. Experimental results are verified using a prototype of a 1 kW wireless power charging system.

  • In this paper, the optimum antenna placement is analyzed by considering the interference between airborne antennas mounted on the unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV). The analysis is implemented by selecting the antennas that the distance and operational frequency band between airborne antennas is close to each other among the omni-directional antennas. The analyzed antennas are the control datalink, TCAS(Traffic Collision & Avoidance System), IFF(Identification Friend or Foe), GPS(Global Positioning System), and RALT(Radar ALTimeter) antennas. There are three steps for the optimum antenna placement analysis. The first step is selecting the antenna position having the optimum properties by monitoring the variation of radiation pattern and return loss by the fuselage of UAV after selecting the initial antenna position considering the antenna use, type, and radiation pattern. The second one is analyzing the interference strength between airborne antennas considering the coupling between airborne antennas, spurious of transmitting antenna, and minimum receiving level of receiving antenna. In case of generating the interference, the antenna position without interference is selected by analyzing the minimum separation distance without interference. The last one is confirming the measure to reject the frequency interference by the frequency separation analysis between airborne antennas in case that the intereference is not rejected by the additional distance separation between airborne antennas. This analysis procedure can be efficiently used to select the optimum antenna placement without interference by predicting the interference between airborne antennas in the development stage.

  • This paper is intended to investigate interaction response of a train running over a suspension bridge undergoing support settlements. The suspension bridge is modeled as a single-span suspended beam with hinged ends and the train as successive moving oscillators with identical properties. To conduct this dynamic problem with non-homogeneous boundary conditions, this study first divides the total response of the suspended beam into two parts: the static and dynamic responses. Then, the coupled equations of motion for the suspended beam carrying multiple moving oscillators are transformed into a set of nonlinearly coupled generalized equations by Galerkin's method, and solved using the Newmark method with an incremental-iterative procedure including the three phases: predictor, corrector, and equilibrium-checking. Numerical investigations demonstrate that the present iterative technique is available in dealing with the dynamic interaction problem of vehicle/bridge coupling system and that the differential movements of bridge supports will significantly affect the dynamic response of the running vehicles but insignificant influence on the bridge response.

  • Using flexible multibody system dynamic method, the rigid-flexible coupling multibody dynamic analysis model of the drum brake system was developed, and the kinematic and dynamic simulation of the system was processed as its object of study. Simulations show that the friction will increase with the dynamic friction coefficient, but high dynamic friction coefficient will cause the abnormal vibration and worsen the stability of the brake system, even the stability of the whole automobile. The modeling of flexible multi-body can effectively analyze and solve complex three-dimensional dynamic subjects of brake system and evaluate brake capability. Further research and study on this basis will result in a convenient and effective solution that can be much helpful to study, design and development of the brake system.
