Nowadays software developers are moving from conventional software process technologies to the object-oriented paradigm. To develope the object-oriented softwares efficiently, various software metrics have been suggested. Coupling refers to the degree of independence between components of the system. It has long been well known that good software practice calls for minimizing coupling interaction. Many researches have been studied coupling metrics of the object- oriented systems. We review Chidamber and Kemerer's work & Li's work. In this paper, we study the coupling of the overall structures of object-oriented systems by analyzing the class diagram of UML. We propose four coupling metrics for object-oriented softwares. First, we use an established coupling metric for object- oriented systems as a basic coupling metric. Then we modify the basic coupling metric by including indirect coupling between classes, We also suggest two relative coupling metrics to measure coupling between subsystems. We investigate the theoretical soundness of the proposed metrics by the axioms of Briand et al. Finally, we apply the presented metrics to a practical case study. This coupling metric will be helpful to the software developers for their designing tasks by evaluating the coupling metric of the structures of object-oriented system and redesigning tasks of the system.
Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) is rapidly emerging as the efficient approach in contemporary complex, heterogeneous computing environments. SOA increases the adaptability by loose coupling and its main feature is that three elements such as service provider, service requester and service registry are connected with each other systematically. To design the service-oriented system efficiently, a metric to measure the coupling between services accurately is needed. In this paper, we propose four coupling metrics for SOA based softwares. First, we suggest a coupling metric for service-oriented systems by modifying an established coupling metric of object-oriented systems. Then we suggest another coupling metric which includes indirect coupling between services. We also suggest two relative coupling metrics to measure coupling between subsystems. We investigate the theoretical soundness of the proposed metrics by the axioms of Briand et al. Finally, we apply the presented metrics to an industrial-scale case study.

As the importance of software measurement increases, there are more researches developing the new software measure. Given the importance of object-oriented development techniques, one specific area where this has occurred is coupling measurement in object-oriented systems. This thesis presents the coupling measure COM based on the methods and OOC based on the classes in measuring the coupling of object-oriented systems. And, it evaluates them using the coupling properties suggested by Briand while it compares them with other coupling measures by applying them to a system developed in the language of C++programming language.

Coupling beams serve as primary source of energy dissipation in coupled shear wall systems during large earthquakes. However, the overestimation of the shear strength of diagonally reinforced coupling beams may be adverse effect on the seismic performance of coupled shear wall systems. In order to force coupling beams to properly work during earthquakes, coupling beams should be designed with accurate shear strength equations. The objective of this study is to propose the accurate shear strength equation for slender diagonally reinforced coupling beams. For this purpose, experimental tests were conducted using three diagonally reinforced coupling specimens with different amount of transverse reinforcement under reversed cyclic loads to evaluate the hysteretic behavior of the specimens. The test results show that transverse reinforcement of slender diagonally reinforced coupling beam affects the maximum strength and drift ratio.
A Reinforced concrete (RC) shear wall system with coupling beams has been known as one of the most promising structural systems for high-rise buildings. However, significantly large flexural and/or shear stress demands induced in the coupling beams require special reinforcement details to avoid their undesirable brittle failure. In order to solve this problem, one of promising candidates is frictional hysteretic energy dissipating devices (HEDDs) as an alternative to the coupling beams. The introduction of frictional HEDDs into a RC shear wall system increases energy dissipation capacity and maintains the frame action after their yielding. This paper investigates the strength demands (specifically yield strength levels) with a maximum allowable ductility of frictional HEDDs based on comparative non-linear time-history analyses of a prototype RC shear wall system with traditional RC coupling beams and frictional HEDDs. Analysis results show that the RC shear wall systems coupled by frictional HEDDs with more than 50% yield strength of the RC coupling beams present better seismic performance compared to the RC shear wall systems with traditional RC coupling beams. This is due to the increased seismic energy dissipation capacity of the frictional HEDD. Also, it is found from the analysis results that the maximum allowable ductility demand of a frictional HEDD should increase as its yield strength decreases.
Blanket is of vital importance for engineering application of the fusion reactor. Nuclear heat deposition in materials is the main heat source in blanket structure. In this paper, the three-dimensional method for thermal-hydraulics/neutronics coupling analysis is developed and applied for the full-scale module of the helium-cooled ceramic breeder tritium breeding blanket (HCCB TBB) designed for China Fusion Engineering Test Reactor (CFETR). The explicit coupling scheme is used to support data transfer for coupling analysis based on cell-to-cell mapping method. The coupling algorithm is realized by the user-defined function compiled in Fluent. The three-dimensional model is established, and then the coupling analysis is performed using the paralleled Coupling Analysis of Thermal-hydraulics and Neutronics Interface Code (CATNIC). The results reveal the relatively small influence of the coupling analysis compared to the traditional method using the radial fitting function of internal heat source. However, the coupling analysis method is quite important considering the nonuniform distribution of the neutron wall loading (NWL) along the poloidal direction. Finally, the structure optimization of the blanket is carried out using the coupling method to satisfy the thermal requirement of all materials. The nonlinear effect between thermal-hydraulics and neutronics is found during the blanket structure optimization, and the tritium production performance is slightly reduced after optimization. Such an adverse effect should be thoroughly evaluated in the future work.

The impact of the information technology industry on economic development is becoming increasingly important. In this study, we take China's provincial-level regions from 2015 to 2020 as the research object, comprehensively evaluates the level of their information technology systems by the entropy weight method, and then measures the coupling coordination relationship between the information technology system and the economic development system by the coupling coordination degree model. As a result, we found that the income of the information technology industry, the investment of talents and science research have the most important influence on the level of the information technology system. During the research period, with increasing values, the coupling degree of the two systems was at a high level. Affected by development strategies, diffusion effects and industrial relocation, the coupling degree in the central and western regions has shown a rapid growth trend. The coordination degree of the two systems is relatively low, and 83.9% of the provinces are in the medium-low coordination stage. The information technology industry has obviously promoted economic development. Besides, relevant policies should be introduced to effectively support and guide the high-quality development of the information technology industry and promote the high-level coordinated development of the two systems.

This paper proposes a nonlinear virtual coupling fur haptic interface, which offers better performance while maintaining stability of the system. The nonlinear virtual coupling is designed based on a human response model. This human response model exploits delay between the human Intention and the actual change of arm impedance. The proposed approach provides with less conservative constraints for the design of stable haptic interface, compared with the traditional passivity condition. This allows increased performance that is verified through experiments.
This study uses the concepts of mental accounting and coupling in consumption to demonstrate a systematic relationship between behavioral costs, sunk costs, coupling, and user intention to discontinue social network services (SNS) use. An analysis of 213 SNS users found that coupling and sunk costs are two major factors that influence an individual's intention to discontinue SNS use. An interesting finding of this study is that the perception of coupling is created by behavioral costs in the context of an SNS. This finding implies that the source of cost perception when perceiving coupling may differ depending on whether the product or service is traditional or web-based. These results contribute to an expansion of the theoretical discussion of individual-level discontinuance intention after adopting SNS by conceptualizing the perception of coupling.
Frequency coupling in the phase domain is a recently reported phenomenon for phase locked loop (PLL) based three-phase grid-inverter systems. This paper investigates the mechanism and stabilization method for the frequency coupling to the stability of grid-inverter systems. Self and accompanying admittance models are employed to represent the frequency coupling characteristics of the inverter, and a small signal equivalent circuit of a grid-inverter system is set up to reveal the mechanism of the frequency coupling to the system stability. The analysis reveals that the equivalent inverter admittance is changed due to the frequency coupling of the inverter, and the system stability is affected. In the end, retuning the bandwidth of the phase locked loop is presented to stabilize the three-phase grid-inverter system. Experimental results are given to verify the analysis and the stabilization scheme.
