In this paper, we have investigated a fiber type active coupler which utilizes the mode coupling between the side polished single mode optical fiber and the active multimode planar waveguide. The proposed device can be used for not only tunable wavelength filter or optical intensity modulator but also a tool for measuring optical properties of guiding material such as refractive index, birefringence, electro-optic coefficient, and thermo-optic coefficient. We gave designed and optimized a coupler structure using the BPM and fabricated the device using thermo-optic polymer as active planar waveguide overlay. The device showed that insertion loss was less then 0.5 dB, extinction ratio was -13 dB at the resonance wavelength, and the wavelength tunablity due to thermo-optic effect was -1.5 nm/$^{\circ}C$. The active coupler using thermo-optic effect can be used as a wavelength tunable filer, an optical intensity modulator and an optical sensor. pulses that are subsequently compressed by a dispersive optical fiber. Experimental results show that $sech^2$ shape pulses with a pulse width of ~14 ps and a time bandwidth product of ~0.34 are successfully generated at 10 GHz repetition rate. In contrast to other methods, such as higher order soliton compression, this approach does not depend on the optical power and thus shows promise for application to low-power lasers.

This paper introduces the development of HF(NFC) and UHF band(13.56 MHz, 920 MHz) tag antennas, imbedded in a box. In dual band antennas, the HF band tag can be used to inspect the box using NFC, and the UHF band tag can be used for logistics. The dielectric constant of the box material is measured and used for simulation. The Ntag213 chip manufactured by NXP is used in HF loop antennas, since NFC is possible with Ntag213. For the UHF band, the Higgs-3 chip manufactured by Alien is used. The HF tag antenna is located at the center of the UHF tag antenna, and the location of the HF tag antenna is calculated while considering coupling effects. The designed tag can be used by both the bands for the purposes of logistics and authentication.
Statement of problem: The researches on the influence of design variables on the stress distribution in cortical and trabecular bones and on optimal design for implant system were limited. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the sensitivities of design parameters and to suggest the optimal parameters for designing the onebody type implant system. Material and methods: Stresses arising in the implant system were obtained by finite element analysis using a three dimensional model. An onebody type implant system[Oneplant (Warrantec. Co. Ltd., Korea)] was considered in this study. Vortical load(150 N) was applied on the top of the abutment along the axial direction. The initial design variables set for sensitivity analysis were radius of fixture, numbers of micro thread, numbers of power thread, height of micro thread, future length, tapered angle of future, inclined angle of thread, width of micro thread and width of power thread. The statistical technique of Design of Experiments(DOE) was applied tn the simulation model to deduce effective design parameters on stress distributions in bones. The deduced design parameters were incorporated into a fully automated design tool which is coupled with the finite element analysis and numerical optimization to determine the optimal design parameters. Results: 1. The result of sensitivity analysis showed six design variables - radius of future, tapered angle of fixture, inclined angle of thread, numbers of power thread, numbers of micro thread and height of micro thread - were more influential than the others. 2. The optimal values of design variables can be deduced by coupling finite element analysis (FEA) and design optimization tool(DOT).

Exchange-coupled cluster of transition-metal ions are relevant to many different scientific areas, ranging from chemistry to solid-state physics, biology, material science and has been the subject of much research in recent years(1,2). Single crystal EPR spectroscopy works as a very effective tool for the measurement of J values for small exchange interactions. This makes EPR technique very suitable for detection of weak exchange coupling transmitted over long distances via extended atomic and melecular bridges. Large polyoxometallates (3) may provide ideal structural environments for the study of interactions between paramagnetic ions. The detailed nature of magnetic interaction (positive sign and magnitude of J~0.006 $cm^{-1}$ /) was clearly determined for di-copper(II) system by single crystal EPR spectroscopy (4). The single-triplet (S-T) transitions are forbidden by different symmetries of the wave functions. However, when the singlet ground state is mixed into triplet states, the S-T transitions can be allowed and observed as weak lines. These weak S-T lines are positioned symmetrically with respect to the main transitions in the distance equals to 2J from the center of the spectrum. This lines allow one to determine the J-value with very high accuracy when │J│ < hv 0.32 $cm^{-1}$ /. Unfortunately, the S-T transitions in the single crystal were detected by EPR method only in a few complexes until now. We have measured single-triplet transition lines for several magnetically coupled cluster systems and determined their J values accurately. The temperature dependency of J was studied by monitoring the changes in S-T.
In order to synthesize polymer particle containing inorganic material, styrene and n-butylmethacrylate were copolymerized with alumina by dispersion polymerization. The weight ratio of styrene to n-butylmethacrylate was 3 : 1. A poly(N-vinyl pyrrolidon) was added as stabilizer. 2,2'-AzobisCisobutyronitrile) and 3-methacryloxypropyl trimethoxysilane were used as initiator and coupling agent, respectively. The weight ratio of 70 : 30 of isopropanol to distilled water was used as dispersion medium. According to the TEM measurement, we could confirm that alumina was dispersed into the polymer particle. The increase 'of concentration of alumina resulted in enhancement of particle size, but decreased its distribution. By the XRD method, it was found that the increase of alumina concentration showed the increase of intensity in peak and the increased 2$\theta$ value. From the TGA measurement, the increase of alumina concentration caused high heat resistance of the polymer. With respect to the type of initiator, the longer half life of initiator, the smaller particle size. We also found that the increase of particle stabilizer concentration made the decreased of particle size due to the accelerated generation of polymer particle in the early stage of reaction.
An analytical formulation and solution process for the buckling analysis of porous magneto-electro-elastic functionally graded (MEE-FG) beam via different thermal loadings and various boundary conditions is suggested in this paper. Magneto electro mechanical coupling properties of FGM beam are taken to vary via the thickness direction of beam. The rule of power-law is changed to consider inclusion of porosity according to even and uneven distribution. Pores possibly occur inside FGMs due the result of technical problems that lead to creation of micro-voids in these materials. Change in pores along the thickness direction stimulates the mechanical and physical properties. Four-variable tangential-exponential refined theory is employed to derive the governing equations and boundary conditions of porous FGM beam under magneto-electrical field via Hamilton's principle. An analytical model procedure is adopted to achieve the non-dimensional buckling load of porous FG beam exposed to magneto-electrical field with various boundary conditions. In order to evaluate the influence of thermal loadings, material graduation exponent, coefficient of porosity, porosity distribution, magnetic potential, electric voltage and boundary conditions on the critical buckling temperature of the beam made of magneto electro elastic FG materials with porosities a parametric study is presented. It is concluded that these parameters play remarkable roles on the buckling behavior of porous MEE-FG beam. The results for simpler states are proved for exactness with known data in the literature. The proposed numerical results can serve as benchmarks for future analyses of MEE-FG beam with porosity phases.
The analysis of structure response and design of buried structures subjected to dynamic destructive loads have been receiving increasing interest due to recent severe damage caused by strong earthquakes and terrorist attacks. For a comprehensive design of buried structures subjected to blast loads to be conducted, the whole system behaviour including simulation of the explosion, propagation of shock waves through the soil medium, the interaction of the soil with the buried structure and the structure response needs to be simulated in a single model. Such a model will enable more realistic simulation of the fundamental physical behaviour. This paper presents a complete model simulating the whole system using the finite element package ABAQUS/Explicit. The Arbitrary Lagrange Euler Coupling formulation is used to model the explosive charge and the soil region near the explosion to eliminate the distortion of the mesh under high deformation, while the conventional finite element method is used to model the rest of the system. The elasto-plastic Drucker-Prager Cap model is used to model the soil behaviour. The explosion process is simulated using the Jones-Wilkens-Lee equation of state. The Concrete Damage Plasticity model is used to simulate the behaviour of concrete with the reinforcement considered as an elasto-plastic material. The contact interface between soil and structure is simulated using the general Mohr-Coulomb friction concept, which allows for sliding, separation and rebound between the buried structure surface and the surrounding soil. The behaviour of the whole system is evaluated using a numerical example which shows that the proposed model is capable of producing a realistic simulation of the physical system behaviour in a smooth numerical process.
A forked tunnel, as a special complicated underground structure, is composed of big-arch tunnel, multi-arch tunnel, neighborhood tunnels and separate tunnels according to the different distances between two separate tunnels. Due to the complicated process of design and construction, surrounding jointed rock mass stability of the big-arch tunnel which belongs to the forked tunnel during excavation is a hot issue that needs special attentions. In this paper, an elasto-plastic damage constitutive model for jointed rock mass is proposed based on the coupling method considering elasto-plastic and damage theories, and the irreversible thermodynamics theory. Based on this elasto-plastic damage constitutive model, a three dimensional elasto-plastic damage finite element code (D-FEM) is implemented using Visual Fortran language, which can numerically simulate the whole excavation process of underground project and perform the structural stability of the surrounding rock mass. Comparing with a popular commercial computer code, three dimensional fast Lagrangian analysis of continua (FLAC3D), this D-FEM has advantages in terms of rapid computing process, element grouping function and providing more material models. After that, FLAC3D and D-FEM are simultaneously used to perform the structural stability analysis of the surrounding rock mass in the forked tunnel considering three different computing schemes. The final numerical results behave almost consistent using both FLAC3D and D-FEM. But from the point of numerically obtained damage softening areas, the numerical results obtained by D-FEM more closely approach the practical behaviors of in-situ surrounding rock mass.

We measured the microwave permeability in the frequency range of 100 MHz$\sim$9 GHz in the exchange biased CoFe/MnIr films. The results were analyzed based on the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert theory. The initial permeability and ferromagnetic resonance frequency was tuned by controlling the CoFe thickness and unidirectional anisotropy. The tunable range of ferromagnetic resonance frequency was up to 20 GHz in the thin CoFe layer of 1.5 nm. The CoFe/MnIr films showed the high permeability and low loss properties in the microwave frequency range. Thus, this material could be applied to the microwave devices.
The electromagnetic and thermal properties of a heavy fermion $CeNi_2Ge_2$ are investigated using first-principle methods with local density approximation (LDA) and fully relativistic approaches. The Ce f-bands are located near the Fermi energy $E_F$ and hybridized with the Ni-3d states. This hybridization plays important roles in the characteristics of this material. The fully relativistic approach shows that the 4f states split into $4f_{7/2}$ and $4f_{5/2}$ states due to spin-orbit coupling effects. It can be found that within the LDA calculation, the density of states near the Fermi level are mainly of Ce-derived 4f states. The Ni-derived 3d states have high peaks around -1.7eV and spreaded over wide range around the Fermi level. The calculated magnetic of $CeNi_2Ge_2$ with LDA method does not match with that of experimental result because of strong correlation interaction between electrons in f orbitals. The calculations show that the specific heat coefficient underestimates the experimental value by a factor of 19.1. The discrepancy between the band calculation and experiment for specific heat coefficient is attributed to the formation of a quasiparticle. Because of the volume contraction, the exchange interaction between the f states and the conduction electrons is large in $CeNi_2Ge_2$, which increases the quasiparticle mass. This will result in the enhancement of the specific hear coefficient.
