  • A modeling method for the vibration analysis of rotating multi-blade systems considering the coupling stiffness effect is presented in this paper. Blades are assumed as cantilever beams and the coupling stiffness effect originates from disc or shroud between blades. As the angular speed, hub radius ratio, and the coupling stiffness vary, the natural frequencies of the system vary. Numerical results show that the coupling stiffness is very important to estimate the natural frequencies. Along with the natural frequencies, associated mode shapes, critical angular speed, and critical hub radius ratio are obtained through the analysis.

  • This study is a structural analysis of 3" Cryogenic Safety Breakaway Coupling using a manufactured product from KLAW Company. Breakaway coupling is very important in the pipe system, especially when transporting fuel or gas in the pipeline. For the analysis of the patent infringement target, Dover and KLAW Company's technologies (US 08127785, EP 0764809) were analyzed. Finally, the flip-flap valve overlap was measured after combining the breakaway coupling through 3D modeling, and the valve overlap had a 0.7mm measurement value from the height gauge. The safety breakaway coupling consisted of a total of 62 pieces (body: 42, valve module: 21).

  • Coupling loss is generated by the time-varying external magnetic field in the normal matrix of the multi-filamentary HTS tape. This paper calculates the coupling loss in the HTS tape. Analytic calculation of the coupling loss cannot consider the effect of the different shapes and the arrangement of the filaments. Numerical calculation by using finite element method and analytic calculation of the coupling loss have been done in this paper and results of two calculations have been compared. Transverse magnetic field and longitudinal magnetic field were considered as the external field.

  • As the importance of software measurement increases, there are more researches developing the new software measure. Given the importance of object-oriented development techniques, one specific area where this has occurred is coupling measurement in object-oriented systems. This thesis presents the coupling measure COM based on the methods and OOC based on the classes in measuring the coupling of object-oriented systems. And, it evaluates them using the coupling properties suggested by Briand while it compares them with other coupling measures by applying them to a system developed in the language of C++programming language.

  • As for marine propulsion shafting system using 4 stroke diesel engine, it is common to apply reduction gear box between diesel engine and shafting with a view of increasing mechanical efficiency, which inevitably require elastic coupling due to avoid chattering and hammering inside of gear box. In this study, optimum method of rectifying propulsion shafting system in case of 750ton fishing vessel specially in a view of torsional vibration, is theoretically studied. After exchange of diesel engine and gear box, analysis result of torsional vibration get worse and so some countermeasure are needed. The elastic coupling is modified from present block type rubber coupling showing relatively high torsional stiffness to rubber coupling with two series elements directly connected. The vibration measurement using two laser torsion meters was done during sea trial, whose results are compared to those of calculation and verified.

  • In the past decade, various experimental programmes were undertaken to address the lack of information on the interaction between steel coupling beams and reinforced concrete shear wall in a hybrid coupled shear wall system. In this paper, the seismic performance of steel coupling beam-wall connections in a hybrid coupled shear wall system is examined through results of an experimental research programme where three 2/3-scale specimens were tested under cyclic loading. The test variables included the reinforcement details that confer a ductile behaviour on the steel coupling beam-wall connection, i.e., the face bearing plates and the horizontal ties in the panel region of steel coupling beam-wall connections. Panel shear strength reflects enhancement achieved through mobilization of the reinforced concrete panel using face bearing plates and/or horizontal ties in the panel region of steel coupling beam-wall connections.

  • In this work, the iterative coupling of finite element and boundary element methods for the investigation of coupled fluid-fluid, solid-solid and fluid-solid wave propagation models is reviewed. In order to perform the coupling of the two numerical methods, a successive renewal of the variables on the common interface between the two sub-domains is performed through an iterative procedure until convergence is achieved. In the case of local nonlinearities within the finite element sub-domain, it is straightforward to perform the iterative coupling together with the iterations needed to solve the nonlinear system. In particular, a more efficient and stable performance of the coupling procedure is achieved by a special formulation that allows to use different time steps in each sub-domain. Optimized relaxation parameters are also considered in the analyses, in order to speed up and/or to ensure the convergence of the iterative process.

  • In this paper, the coupling windows of the dielectric resonator filter have been analyzed. The coupling factor which has been used to characterize the coupling window is represented by closed form expressions. The deviation of the coupling factor as the size of coupling window has been compared between calculated by presented method and measured ones. There are very closed agreements. The presented method can be applied not only to design dielectric resonator but also to design varactor tuned dielectric resonator filter so as that the passband bandwidth is constant within tuned ranges.

  • An experimental study of five full-scale coupling beam specimens has been conducted to investigate the seismic behavior of strengthened RC coupling beams by bolted side steel plates using a reversed cyclic loading procedure. The strengthened coupling beams are fabricated with different plate thicknesses and shear connector arrangements to study their respective effects on load-carrying capacity, strength retention, stiffness degradation, deformation capacity, and energy dissipation ability. The study revealed that putting shear connectors along the span of coupling beams produces no significant improvement to the structural performance of the strengthened beams. Translational and rotational partial interactions of the shear connectors that would weaken the load-carrying capacity of the steel plates were observed and measured. The hierarchy of failure of concrete, steel plates, and shear connectors was identified. Furthermore, detailed effects of plate buckling and various arrangements of shear connectors on the post-peak behavior of the strengthened beams are discussed.
