In order to execute the major role as the high density large capacity data storage device, which is one of the major characteristics of DVD(Digital Versatile Disk), there must be a method to effectively absorb the external impact or internal vibration. The DVD which has been developed until now tries to control two different types of vibrations, using only one absorber. But this goes against the independence Axiom of Axiomatic Approach which makes the design to be coupled. And in fat most of the malfunctions occurring during DVD data input/output is due to impact or vibration. Therefore in this paper, the vibration absorption system and operation reliability of DVD will be evaluated with the Axiomatic Approach and plans and feasibility to design an improved vibration absorption system will be provided also based on the Axiomatic Approach.

Oil refineries' Fluid Catalytic Cracking Units (FCCU) when in full operation may exhibit strong fluid dynamics caused by turbulent flow in the piping system that may induce vibrations in other mechanical and structural components of the Unity. This paper reports on the experimental-theoretical-computational program performed to get the vibration properties and the dynamic response amplitudes to find out alternative solutions to attenuate the excessive vibrations that were causing fatigue fractures in components of the bottle like reactor-regenerator of an FCC unit in operation in an existing oil refinery in Brazil. Solutions to the vibration problem were sought with the aid of a 3D finite element model calibrated with the results obtained from experimental measurements. A short description of the found solutions is given and their effectiveness are shown by means of numerical results. The solutions were guided by the concepts of structural stiffening and dynamic control performed by a nonlinear pendulum controller whose mechanical design was based on parameters determined by means of a parametric study carried out with 2D and 3D mathematical models of the coupled pendulum-structure system. The effectiveness of the proposed solutions is evaluated in terms of the fatigue life of critical welded connections.
This study proposes a new vibration control approach for adjacent twin structures, which is termed as viscous damper asymmetric coupling system in this paper. The proposed system takes a concept that the diagonal bracing viscous dampers are asymmetrically distributed in two buildings to break the behavior symmetry of the twin buildings and then the coupling viscous damper is additionally installed at the top floor of the two buildings to couple both buildings and interactively transfer the asymmetric behavior-caused damping forces into both buildings. These asymmetric damping distributions and interacting damping forces of the connection damper efficiently suppress the overall vibration of the damper-coupled adjacent twin buildings efficiently. Genetic algorithm (GA) based multi-objective optimization technique is adopted for optimal design of the proposed system. In the numerical example of adjacent twin 10-story building structures, the conventional control approach, that is, uniform damping distribution system (UDS) is also taken into account for comparison purpose. The optimization results verify that the proposed system either can improve the control performance over the UDS with the same damping capacity, or can save the damping capacity significantly while maintaining the similar level of control performance to the UDS.

The absorbing material is mostly used to changing the acoustic energy to the heat energy in the passive control, and that consists of the porous media. That controls an air borne noise while the stiffened plates, damping material and additional mass control a structure borne noise. The additional mass can decrease the sound by mass effect and shift of natural frequency, and damping material can decrease the sound by damping effect. The passive acoustic control using these kinds of control materials has an advantage that is possible to control the acoustic in the wide frequency band and the whole space at a price as compared with the active control using the various electronic circuit and actuator. But the space efficiency decreased and the control ability isn't up to the active control. So it is necessary to maximize the control ability in the specific frequency to raise the capacity of passive control minimizing the diminution of space efficiency such an active control. Therefore, the characteristics of control materials and the optimum layout of control materials that attached to the boundary of structure-acoustic coupled cavity were studied using sequential optimization on this study.

The vibration control performance of a semi-active damper connected to adjacent buildings subjected to seismic loads was investigated. The MR damper was used as a semi-active control device. A fuzzy logic control algorithm was used for effective control of the adjacent buildings connected to the MR damper. In the buildings control coupled with a MR damper, the response reduction of one building results in an increase in the response in another building. Because of these conflict characteristics, multi-objective optimization is required. Therefore, a fuzzy logic control algorithm for the control of a MR damper was optimized using a multi-objective genetic algorithm. Based on numerical analyses, the semi-active fuzzy control of MR damper for adjacent coupled buildings can provide good control performance.
Control of structural response due to seismic excitation in a manner of coupling adjacent buildings has been actively developed, and most attention focused on those buildings of similar height. However, with the rapid development of some modern cities, multi-story buildings constructed with an auxiliary low-rise podium structure to provide extra functions to the complex become a growing construction scheme. Being inspired by the positively examined coupling control approach for buildings with similar height, this paper aims to provide a comprehensive analytical study on control effectiveness of using friction dampers to link the two buildings with significant height difference to supplement the recent experimental investigation carried out by the writers. The analytical model of a coupled building system is first developed with passive friction dampers being modeled as Coulomb friction. To highlight potential advantage of coupling the main building and podium structure with control devices that provide a lower degree of coupling, the inherent demerit of rigid-coupled configuration is then evaluated. Extensive parametric studies are finally performed. The concerned parameters influencing the design of optimal friction force and control efficiency include variety of earthquake excitation and differences in floor mass, story number as well as number of dampers installed between the two buildings. In general, the feasibility of interaction control approach applied to the complex structure for vibration reduction due to seismic excitation is supported by positive results.
Undesired vibratory motion of a simply supported plate is controlled with piezoelectric sensors and actuators. Appropriate dynamic equations of the sensor and actuator are derived and coupled with the dynamic equation of the plate for the construction of an active feedback vibration control system. Analytic solutions are obtained for amplitude response of the plate, reflecting the combined effect of external driving forces and piezoelectric control moments. Numerical examples are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of this approach for two types of external forces, i.e. a concentrated point load and a piezoelectric plate driver. Calculation results show that the sensors and actuators can be efficient tools to mitigate the sensitivity of the structure to external sources of vibration. The method investigated in this work is applicable to arbitrary external loading conditions and control algorithms.
This paper deals with the vibration analysis of characteristics for BLDC motor by electromagnetic exciting force. Vibration analysis of electric machine is mainly divided into mechanical and electrical approach. However, it need to execute coupling analysis of mechanical and electrical computation because the vibration sources have relation to each other. Magnetic fields is calculated from Maxwell stress method with electromagnetic finite element method. And magnetic radial force is calculated from previous magnetic fields. With coupled electromagnetic and structure finite element, the vibratory behavior between the phase commutation advancing technique and pulse-width control is investigated in single phase brushless dc motor.

The technique used is the active structural acoutrol (ASAC)approach which involves controlling the acoustic response of a panel-cavity covpled system by applying oscillating force inputs in the form of prezoelectric actuators directly to the flexible panel. The linear quadratic Gaussian control scheme is used for attenuating nosie inside the rectangular enclosure causing by flexible wall vibration. Results indicated the application of control inputs to the radiating wall resukted in considerable noise reductions inside the cavity. Auso, the possibility of application to the more complicated fluid-structure coupled system is verified.
Many researchers have studied several vibration control devices such as TMD, TLD, and VED to reduce the acceleration level for tall buildings. Advantages of TLD (tuned liquid damper) include easy installation, low cost, and less maintenance. However, the dynamic characteristics of TLD must be verified by experiment and analysis due to the difficulties in evaluating the characteristics of water sloshing. In this study, free vibration and dynamic excitation experiments of structure with TLD were conducted to verify vibration control force of the proposed TLD for high-rise building. The parameters were mass ratio of water to structure, number of damping nets, and aspect ratio. From the test results, the responses of structure with water tank were observed to be smaller than those of structure alone. Furthermore, better damping effect could be achieved with larger mass ratio, more damping nets, and larger aspect ratio. However, in the case of water tank with no damping net, little damping effect was obtained.
