Dyeing liquor was extracted from flowers, leaves and stems of balsamine. Dyeing properties, colorfastness and antibacterial activities of the fabrics dyed with the balsamine extracts were investigated at a variety of dyeing conditions of differing pH. time and temperature. Wool, silk and nylon fabrics showed better dyeability than cellulosic fabrics, i.e. cotton, linen and rayon. Especially, nylon fabrics showed the highest K/S values. The dye-uptake was achieved to the highest degree during the first ten minutes of dyeing procedure. All fabrics were dyed well at $40^\circ{C}$ with no pH adjustment. The pH of unadjusted balsamine extracts was 4.6. Their colorfastnesses to washing, drycleaning and perspiration were good as 4 or 4-5 grade. but the light fastnesses were poor as 1-2 grade. While, the antibacterial activities to Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae were excellent with 99.9% of colonies reduction ratio. Their excellent antibacterial activity was kept well after ten times washing.
A gene coding for the GST of cotton (Gh-5) was cloned into Escherichia coli and experssed. The enzyme remained within the cytoplasm of E. coli. An 696 bp open reading frame was in the 988 base pair fragment of the recombinant plasmid pET-30b(+). The deduced protein sequence consists of 232 amino acids and has a molecular mass of 30235.58 Da. The cloned enzyme conjugated reduced glutathione and 1-chloro-2,4-dinitrobenzene (CDNB). Plant GST cDNA was expressed in microbe and produced polypeptide had function as an enzyme.
Fiber surface morphologies and associated internal structures are closely related to its properties. Unlike other fibers including cotton, bast fibers possess transverse nodes and fissures in cross-sectional and longitudinal directions. Their morphologies and associated internal structures were anatomically examined under the scanning electron microscope. The results showed that the morphologies of the nodes and the fissures of bast fibers varied depending on the construction of the inner fibril cellular layers. The transverse nodes and fissures were formed by the folding and spiralling of the cellular layers during plant growth. The dimensions of nodes and fissures were determined by the dislocations of the cellular layers. There were also many longitudinal fissures in bast fibers. Some deep longitudinal fissures even opened the fiber lumen for a short way along the fiber. In addition, the lumen channel of the bast fibers could be disturbed or disrupted by the nodes and the spirals of the internal cellular layers. The existence of the transverse nodes and fissures in the bast fibers could degrade the fiber mechanical properties, whereas the longitudinal fissures may contribute to the very rapid moisture absorption and desorption.
Thin films of carbon-nano materials (CNMs) of different morphology have been successfully deposited on ceramic substrate by CVD at temperatures $800^{\circ}C$, $850^{\circ}C$ and $900^{\circ}C$ using plant based oils in the presence of transition metal catalysts (Ni, Co and Ni/Co alloys). Based on the return and insertion loss, microwave absorption properties of thin film of nanocarbon material are measured using passive micro-Strip line components. The result indicates that amongst CNMs synthesized from oil of natural precursors (mustered oil - Brassica napus, Karanja oil - Pongamia glabra, Cotton oil - Gossipium hirsuta and Neem oil - Azadirachta indica) carbon nano fibers obtained from neem's seed oil showed better microwave absorption (~20dB) in the range of 8.0 GHz to 17.90 GHz.
Acyl-CoA binding proteins (ACBP) are small highly-conserved cytosolic proteins that bind long-chain acyl-CoAs. A cDNA encoding ACBP was identified from cDNA library constructed from hairy root poly $A^{+}$ RNA in expressed sequence tags (EST) analysis. The cDNA clone was 453 bp long and carried an open reading frame of 264 bp (10 kDa). The ginseng ACBP amino acid sequence was compared with other reported plant ACBPs using the CLUSTALW. Ginseng ACBP is 89%, 81%, 80%, and 73% identical with ACBP from castor bean, lilly, Digitalis and Arabidopsis, respectively. However, ginseng ACBP is 5 amino acids smaller than Arabidopsis and rape seed ACBPs. Also there is no any known signal peptide sequence in ginseng ACBP.
This study of afterripening conditions during oyster mushroom (Suhanneutari 1ho) cultivation in bottles was investigated. Medium materials were used poplar-sawdust (68%), cotton seed peel (16%), Beet pulp (8%) and cotton seed cake (8%). Mix of materials was used as a percentage of the volume and to adjust moisture content (67%). Autoclaved mediums were placed in low temperature storage ($20^{\circ}C$) and then moved in inoculation room and conducted mechanical inoculation. Mycelial culture temperature was maintained at $20{\sim}21^{\circ}C$ and cultured during 18 days. The afterripening period were 6days, 9days, 12days and 15 days at $25{\sim}27^{\circ}C$. The yield of fruit body was higher for 9 days (163.1g/bottle) and 12 days (160.7g/bottle) than that of other afterripening period. Second, in the changes in moisture content of the medium according to the afterripening period, no significant changes were observed during mycelial grwoth. The longer afterripening period was showed slightly lower weight of media. The moisture content of media after harvest at afterripening for 9 days had the biggest reduction than any other treatments. In addition, weight of media and yield of afterripening for 9 days were the lowest and highest, respectively.

In Korea, wide spread use of whole cottonseed, which is primarily a GMO plant imported from foreign countries and being fed to animals as raw state, has aroused concern that it may disturb the existing ecology of the country unless dispersion of the seed is under proper control. The objective of this study was to elucidate the changes in various nutritive parameters due to heat treatment and to determine the effective condition for removing germination ability of whole cottonseed (WCS). Of the various temperatures applied (76, 78, 80, 85, $100^{\circ}C$/30 min) $85^{\circ}C$ for 30 min was confirmed to be the lowest temperature treatment which resulted in a complete removal of the germination ability of WCS. Therefore, based on the determined temperature condition ($85^{\circ}C$ 30 min) we tried to examine the changes of various nutritional parameters, including nutrient composition, in vitro digestibilities and ruminal protein degradabilities, comparing raw whole cotton seed (RWCS) and heated whole cotton seed (HWCS). Some changes in amino acid composition were observed with heat treatment of WCS, but these were regarded to originate from the variation in plant quality and seed morphology, which are usually affected by different environmental factors during the vegetation period. As for fatty acid composition, no significant differences were observed to occur during heat treatment. However, WCS heated at $85^{\circ}C$ for 30 min in a circulating oven showed a significant decrease (p<0.05) of in situ rumen degradability in both dry matter (DM) and crude protein (CP), as compared to raw WCS. Overall results obtained in the study indicate that the heating condition used in this study, which was proven to be the most appropriate and economic to remove germination ability of WCS, may also improve the nutritional value of the ruminant with regard to reducing its protein degradability within the rumen.
The susceptibility of Aphis gossypii populations collected from three fields (WJ, CC, and GS) was evaluated to three insecticides (afidopyropen, chlorfenapyr and cyantraniliprole) and three binary mixtures. Three field populations showed resistance ratios of over 100 to all insecticides. The Combination Index (CI), %M(synergism), Co-Toxicity Coefficient (CTC), Wadley Ratio (WR), Synergism Ratio (SR) and Abbott Ratio (AR) were used to evaluate combined effect of the insecticides. Afidopyropen + chlorfenapyr (CI ≤ 0.16; %M(synergism) ≥ 94; CTC ≥ 764.5; WR ≥ 6.4; SR ≥ 6.9 and AR ≥ 1.1) showed a synergism in all filed populations. WJ and CC populations showed a synergism in all binary mixtures of insecticides, but GS population showed an antagonism for chlorfenapyr + cyantraniliprole (CI, 1.63; %M(synergism), 30; CTC, 64.0; WR, 0.6 and AR, 0.54) and afidopyropen + cyantraniliprole (CI, 6.7; %M(synergism), 1; CTC, 19.8; WR, 0.2 and AR ≤ 0.55). All mixtures (afidopyropen + chlorfenapyr, chlorfenapyr + cyantraniliprole and afidopyropen + cyantraniliprole) showed a control value of over 99% after 21 days of treatment in the field. This study highlights that binary mixtures of three insecticides serve as an effective control strategy for A. gossypii.
KNI3126 which is the eco-friendly material made by plant extracts - neem and matrine - have been evaluated for efficacies against 6 main pests and toxicity on natural enemies. Insecticidal efficacies of KNI3126 against plant hopper were above 95% at 5 days after treatment (DAT), whereas pesticidal effects against the cotton aphid were above 95% at 3 DAT and slightly decreased at 5 DAT. Insecticidal efficacy against the palm thrips resulted in lower control value as 68.1% than that of chemical insecticides. KNI3126 showed more than 95% control value against diamond back moth, suggesting that it could suppress the population of pest hard to control as eco-friendly material. Mortalities against two-spotted spider mite were about 80% at 1 DAT and over 90% at 5 DAT, respectively. For evaluation of the toxicity on natural enemies, effect against predatory natural enemy was classified as moderate selective toxicity based on the criterion of International Organization of Bio-Control (IOBC), whereas against parasitic natural enemies was found to be relatively safe. Repellent effect was weak against plant hopper, but strong against two-spotted spider mite. In the toxicity test for safety, KNI3126 was classified as the lowest level at acute oral, acute dermal and fish toxicity test and did not induce the irritancy at skin irritation test and eye irritation test.
There is a continuous rise in the commercialization of living modified (LM) organisms worldwide. While LM plants have not yet been cultivated in South Korea, research, development, import of products, and registration of related research facilities are progressing. LM plants should be tested in greenhouses and fields during development. Furthermore, environmental risk assessment and safety management should be performed before their release into the environment. Research on LM plant development is conducted in laboratories as well as confined greenhouses and fields. Safety management regulations are provided as combination standards for the LMO Act in each research district. The accidental release of the LM petunia in Japan was a significant incident related to LM plant research. It implies that normal plants within the distance of crossing should be regarded as LM plants. In the United States, LM creeping bentgrass was released into the environment, thus necessitating the establishment of stringent measures to prevent the scattering of LM plant seeds by wind or other mediums. In South Korea, LM Zoysia and LM cotton were released through rainwater. Therefore, safety measures that prevent LM seed mixing and plant vegetative propagules escaping into the environment via rainwater must be established. Preventing the dispersal of unapproved LM plants requires significant time, expenditure, and effort. Researchers should first identify the impact of LM plants on the ecosystem, and steps to avert their environmental release must be implemented.
