The development of urbanization in the twentieth century according to the rampant growth of industrialization not only brought about the improvement of life-quality but also induced us to reconsider the contemporary issues such as crisis of echo system which made us aware of the values and significance of the system and sustainable environments. As sustainability has been recognized as the holistic concept, it has been highlighted as one of the core concepts in the studies with the present ecological perspective. Particularly, as the plan of urbanization in Korea which had been based on the deconstruction has been converted into the regeneration, economic and cultural regeneration is also demanded for the future plan besides material regeneration. This study aims to scrutinize various attributes of socially sustainable designs in Yerba Buena Garden of San Francisco, USA which has been globally well known as a successful example of urban regeneration. By way of visit-and-observation of the place, the research for the study was conducted during the month of December, 2007. Three researchers visited Yerba Buena Garden to observe and take photographs and to obtain relevant data and public documents in local public library. Socially sustainable design was measured on the basis of such principles; social facilitation, permeability and accessibility, safely and emotional stability, softness and feminism, and child care convenience. Relevant data were systematically organized to support and prove the above principles. The result of the study is expected to effectively be utilized for Korean environment plan and design as a benchmarking guidelines against the crisis of degeneration and the aging society with the lowest birthrates in the world.

Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) is a useful rapid prototyping technique for the manufacture of three dimensional (3D) solid objects directly from a scanning data. A new approach called a Selective Multi-Laser Sintering (SMLS) system has been developed at Korea Institute Machinery & Materials (KIMM) as an industrial type SFFS. This SMLS machine is built with a frame, heaters, nitrogen supply part, laser system. This system uses the dual laser and 3D scanner made in $Solutionix^{TM}$ to improve the precision and speed for large objects. The three-dimensional solid objects are made of polyamide powder. The investigation on each part of SMLS system is performed to determine the proper theirs design and the effect of experimental parameters on making the 3D objects. The temperature of the system has a great influence on sintering the polymer. Because the stability of the powder temperature prevents the deformation of each layer, the controls of the temperature in both the system and the powders are very important during the process. Therefore, we simulated the temperature distribution of build room using the temperature analysis with ANSYS program. Selected radiant heater is used to raise temperature of powder to melting point temperature. The laser parameters such as scan spacing, scan speed, laser power and laser delay time affect the production the 3D objects too. The combination of the slow scan speed and the high laser power shows the good results without the layer curling. The work is under way to evaluate the effect of experimental parameters on process and to produce the various objects. We are going to experiment continuously to improve the size accuracy and surface roughness.
A new technology for reducing photolithography process from a four step to a three step process in the fabrication of TFT LCD is introduced. The core technology for 3-mask-TFT processes is the lift-off process [1], by which the PAS and PXL layers can be formed simultaneously. A different method of the lift-off process was developed in order to enhance the performance of efficiency with conventional positive and not negative PR which is the generally used in other lift-off process. In addition, the removal capacity of the ITO/PR in lift-off process was evaluated. The evaluation results showed that the new process can be run in conventional TFT production condition. In order to apply this new process in existing TFT process, several tests were conducted to ensure stability of the TFT process. It was found that the outgases from PR on the substrate in ITO sputtering chamber do not raise any problem, and the deposited ITO film beside the PR has conventional ITO qualities. Furthemore, the particles that were produced due to the ITO chips in PR strip bath could be reduced by the existing filtering system of stripper. With the development of total process and design of the structure for TFT using this technology, 3-mask-panels were achieved in TN and IPS modes, which showed the same display performances as those with the conventional 4mask process. The applicability and usefulness of the 3-mask process has already verified in the mass production line and in fact it currently being used for the production of some products.
Sliding aspects of rock slope, where large-scaled tension cracks are induced during preliminary excavation, have been analyzed. Structure of rock mass is investigated by performing the electrical resistivity survey and the orientations and positions of discontinuities are measured from DOM-drilled core log. Geological evidence far primary failure movement has been detected and clay minerals which possess swelling properties are identified through XRD analysis. Slope stability is examined by considering the orientations of discontinuities and their trace distributions on the cut-face and neighboring natural slope surface. Both orientations and positions of failure-invoking discontinuity planes, traces of which are exposed within the anticipated sliding region, are concerned fur analyzing the preferred sliding directions. Regional sliding vectors are assessed based on the relative positions of potential sliding planes in the boreholes and the general trend of anticipated failure movement of rock slope is also investigated.
A numerical analysis of reactive flow in a liftoff flame is accomplished to elucidate the characteristics of liftoff flame. To verify reliance of numerical calculation, the liftoff heights of liftoff flame for various fuel exit velocities are compared between the existing experimental research results and the present calculation results. The flame propagation velocity is conducted at the flow redirection point which is on a stoichiometric line ahead of flame front. This point was selected constant distance from triple point regardless of fuel exit velocity at the previous research. This causes considerable errors for the flame propagation velocity and scalar dissipation rate. The main issue of the present research is to establish the resonable method to select the redirection point and so that to clarify the relationship between flame propagation velocity and scalar dissipation rate, which is the core properties in a triple flame stability.

In order to guarantee the stability of a tunnel and its optimum design, it is very important to obtain enough ground investigation data. In realty, however, it is not the case due to the limitation of measuring spatially distributed data and economical reasons. Especially, there are regions where drilling is impossible due to civil appeal and mountainous topology, and it is also difficult to estimate rock mass classes quantitatively with only geophysical exploration data. In this study, therefore, 3 dimensional multiple indicator kriging (3D-MI kriging), which can incorporate geophysical exploration data and drill core data off a tunnel center line, is proposed to cope with such problems. To this end, two dimensional mutiple indicator kriging, which is one of the geostatistical techniques, is extended for three dimensional analysis. Also, the proposed 3D-MI kriging was applied to determine the rock mass classes by RMR system for the design of a Kyungbu express rail way tunnel.
Because of sandwich structures with low weight and high stiffness have much usage in various industries such as civil and aerospace engineering, in this article, buckling and free vibration analyses of coupled micro composite sandwich plates are investigated based on sinusoidal shear deformation (SSDT) and most general strain gradient theories (MGSGT). It is assumed that the sandwich structure rested on an orthotropic elastic foundation and make of four composite face sheets with temperature-dependent material properties that they reinforced by carbon and boron nitride nanotubes and two flexible transversely orthotropic cores. Mathematical formulation is presented using Hamilton's principle and governing equations of motions are derived based on energy approach and applying variation method for simply supported edges under electro-magneto-thermo-mechanical, axial buckling and pre-stresses loadings. In order to predict the effects of various parameters such as material length scale parameter, length to width ratio, length to thickness ratio, thickness of face sheets to core thickness ratio, nanotubes volume fraction, pre-stress load and orthotropic elastic medium on the natural frequencies and critical buckling load of double-bonded micro composite sandwich plates. It is found that orthotropic elastic medium has a special role on the system stability and increasing Winkler and Pasternak constants lead to enhance the natural frequency and critical buckling load of micro plates, while decrease natural frequency and critical buckling load with increasing temperature changes. Also, it is showed that pre-stresses due to help the axial buckling load causes that delay the buckling phenomenon. Moreover, it is concluded that the sandwich structures with orthotropic cores have high stiffness, but because they are not economical, thus it is necessary the sandwich plates reinforce by carbon or boron nitride nanotubes specially, because these nanotubes have important thermal and mechanical properties in comparison of the other reinforcement.

This paper presents the development of a robotic system for rehabilitation of the trunk's ability to maintain postural control under different balance conditions. The system, developed with extensive input from rehabilitation and biomedical engineering experts, consists of a seat mounted on a robotic mechanism capable of moving it with four degrees of freedom (3 rotational and 1 translational). The seat surface has built in instrumentation to gauge the movements of the user's center of pressure (COP) and it can be moved either to track the movements of the COP or according to operator given commands. The system allows two types of leg support. A ground mounted footrest allows participation of legs in postural control while a seat connected footrest constrains the leg movement and limits their involvement in postural control. The design evolution over several prototypes is presented and computer aided structural analysis is used to determine the feasibility of the designed components. The system is pilot tested by a stroke patient and is determined to have potential for use as a trunk rehabilitation tool. Future works involve more detailed studies to evaluate the effects of using this system and to determine its efficacy as a rehabilitation tool.

PURPOSE: This study compares the effects of HUBER rehabilitation and general rehabilitation treatment on the coordination, balance, and walking ability of stroke patients. METHODS: This study enrolled 38 randomized stroke patients, and data was collected for 6 weeks. All participants were randomly assigned to either the experimental group (n = 19) or control group (n = 19). The experimental group were administered Huber rehabilitation and general rehabilitation treatment. The control group was given only general rehabilitation treatment. Both treatments were conducted for 30 minutes during each training session, 3 training sessions per week, for 6 weeks. The coordination, balance, and walking ability were evaluated before and after the intervention, to compare the intergroup and intragroup changes. RESULTS: Change in the right LOS (limit of stability) (p < .001) and forward LOS (p < .02) following intervention were significantly greater in the experimental group than in the control group, but no significant group difference was observed between left LOS (p > .1) and backward LOS (p > .2). Alterations in coordination (p < .02) and TUG (p <. 05) were significantly greater after intervention in the experimental group than in the control group. CONCLUSION: These findings suggest that HUBER rehabilitation is effective in improving the coordination, balance, and walking ability in stroke patients. To strengthen and validate the results of this study, future studies related to HUBER rehabilitation are required.
The 26S proteasome is a 2-MDa complex with a central role in protein turn over. The 26S proteasome is comprised of one 20S core particle and two 19S regulatory particles (RPs). The RPN12a protein, a non-ATPase subunit of the 19S RP, was previously shown to be involved in cytokinin signaling in Arabidopsis. To further investigate cellular roles of RPN12a, RNAi transgenic plants of RPN12a were constructed. As expected, the 35S:RNAi-RPN12a plants showed cytokinin signaling defective phenotypes, including abnormal formation of leaves and inflorescences. Furthermore, RNAi knock-down transgenic plants exhibited additional unique phenotypes, including concave and heart-shape cotyledons, triple cotyledons, irregular and clustered guard cells, and defects in phyllotaxy, all of which are typical for defective cytokinin signaling. We next examined the mRNA level of cytokinin signaling components, including type-A ARRs, type-B ARRs, and CRFs. The expression of type-A ARRs, encoding negative regulators of cytokinin signaling, was markedly reduced in 35S:RNAi-RPN12a transgenic plants relative to that in wild type plants, while type-B ARRs and CRFs were unaffected. Our results also indicate that in vivo stability of the ARR5 protein, a negative regulator of cytokinin signaling, is mediated by the 26S proteasome complex. These results suggest that RPN12a participates in feedback inhibitory mechanism of cytokinin signaling through modulation of the abundance of ARR5 protein in Arabidopsis.
