90wt% Cordierite-10wt% Enstatite 총체의 $TiO_2$ 첨가에 의한 결정화 (Crystallization of 90wt% Cordierite-10wt% Enstatite Melt by $TiO_2$ Addition)

  • The effect of $TiO_2$ addition to the 90wt% Cordierite-10wt% Enstatite base glass was investi-gated to understand the crystallization behavior of the glass. Glasses with addition of $TiO_2$ less than 7, 5wt% had a tendency of surface crystallization and were cracked when heat treated and in this case the crystalline phase formed was indialite. glasses with addition of $TiO_2$ more than 10wt% to 15wt% were crystallized in bulk when heat treated and were suitable for glass-ceramics. The highest microhardness 1640kg/$mm^2$ was obtained when the glass of 12.5wt% $TiO_2$ addition was heat treated at 762$^{\circ}C$ for 60 minutes for nucleation and at 1135$^{\circ}C$ for 20 minutes for crystal growth and in general higher microhardness was obtained when crystalline phase of magnesium aluminum titanate and $\mu$-cordierite were developed. Avrami equation for crystal growth kinetics was applicable in glasses of less than 7.5 wt% $TiO_2$ addition and in case of glasses of more than 10wt% $TiO_2$ addition it was not applicable because of too fast crystal growth.

  • As a low K material for high frequency high integration modules, glass/ceramic composites were investigated. Glass composition were selected from $SiO_2-B_2O_3-Al_2O_3-R_2O$-RO system which having very low dielectric constant and cordierite was used as a ceramic filler. These composites were sintered at temperature range from $850^{\circ}$ to $950^{\circ}$ and XRD, SEM microstructure analysis of sintered bodies were performed for understanding sintering behavior. Any crystallization was not occurred and dense sintered bodies were attained. Dielectric and mechanical properties of these sintered glass/cordierite composites were analysed by network analyzer and UTM. Glass/ceramic composite with 50 wt% cordierite showing a dielectric constant (${\varepsilon}_r$) of 5.4, Q${\times}f_0$ (Q) of 1600 at 1 GHz and maximum bending strength of 163 MPa was attained.

다공성 확산층을 이용한 한계전류형 지르코니아 산소센서 (Limit-current type zirconia oxygen sensor with porous diffusion layer)

  • Simple, small and portable oxygen sensors were fabricated by tape casting technique. Yttria stabilized zirconia containing cordierite ceramics (YSZC) were used as a porous diffused layer of oxygen in pumping cell. Yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) solid electrolyte, YSZC porous diffusion layer and heater-patterned ceramic sheets were prepared by co- firing method. Limit current characteristics and the linear relationship of current to oxygen concentration were observed. Viscosity variation of the slurries both YSZ and YSZC showed a similar behavior, but micro pores in the fired sheet were increased with increasing of the cordierite amount. Molecular diffusion was dominated due to the formation of large pores in porous diffusion layer. The plateau range of limit current in porous-type oxygen sensor was narrow than the one of aperture-type oxygen sensor. However limit current curve was appeared in porous-type oxygen sensor even at the lower applied voltage. The plateau range of limit-current was widen as increasing the thickness of porous diffusion layer of the YSZ containing cordierite. Measuring temperature of $600{\sim}650^{\circ}C$ was recommended for limit-current oxygen sensor. Porous diffusion layer-type oxygen sensor showed faster response than the aperture-type one and was stable up to 30 days running without any crack at interface between the layers.

적외선 반사체용 결정화유리 제조 및 광학적 특성평가 (Fabrication and Optical Characterization of Glass-ceramics for IR Reflector)

  • 본 연구에서는 적외선 반사체 제조를 위하여 MAS(MgO-Al$_2$O$_3$-SiO$_2$)계 유리로부터 핵행성 및 결정성장의 2단계 열처리에 의해 cordierite(2MgO.2Al$_2$O$_3$5SiO$_2$)와 rutile(TiO$_2$)을 주결정상으로 하는 결정화유리를 제조하였다. MgO-Al$_2$O$_3$-SiO$_2$3성분계 조성에 조핵제로 TiO$_2$를 첨가하여 용융법으로 유리를 제조한 후 결정화 열처리를 하여 핵생성 및 결정화 거동과 결정화유리의 결정상, 입자 크기와 확산 반사율과의 관계를 관찰하였다. 그 결과 75$0^{\circ}C$에서 3시간동안 핵생성 시킨 후 110$0^{\circ}C$/5hr 이상의 열처리 조건에서 cordierite와 rutile이 주결정상으로 석출되었으며 570~2500nm 범위에서 90% 이상의 반사율을 갖는 결정화유리를 제조하였다.

  • Low firing temperature substrate were synthesized through tape casting and sintering of glass with cordierite composition and then their properties were investigated. Even though the dielectric properties and XRD patterns of substrates, obtained by tape casting and sintering at 900~100$0^{\circ}C$ for various periods, were similar to those of substrates obtained by dry pressing, the sinterability was enhanced. The substrates were thin and the size was 0.6$\times$50$\times$50mm. From the results of dielectric properties, the sinterability and X-ray diffraction pattern, the proper condition for cofiring process with conductor, Cu, was 90$0^{\circ}C$ for 1h. The properties of the substrate are as follows; the dielectric constant was 5.31(at 1MHz), the dissipation factor was 0.0028, the apparent porosity was 0.28% and the main crystalline phase was $\alpha$-cordierite.

Influence of Pore on Dielectric Constant of Colrdierite Ceramics Prepared by Sol-Gel Process

  • Cordierite ceramics with low dielectric constants were obtained through sol-gel techniques using as metal alkoxides. The powders for the sintered cordierite ceramics were prepared by hydrolysis of metal alkoxides with ethanol and distilled water. In the hydrolysis, the mole ratio of HCI/TEOS was controlled by changing the amount of HCI as a catalyst. The sol-gel derived powders were dried, pressed, and fired at $1300^{\circ}C$. The dried powders were calcined at $800{\circ}C$ for 3hours to remove residual organics. The fired bodies with different dielectric constants were obtained by using HCI adjusted to various mole ratios of HCI/TEOS in the process. The variation of the amount of HCI catalyst led to a significant influence on dielectric contant, which was attributed to the formation of pores in the sintered body. Especially, the porosity of the sintered body influenced the dielectric constants.

Cordierite계 적외선 방사체의 제특성에 미치는 MnO_2$의 영향 (Effects of MnO_2$ Additives on the Characteristics of Infrared Radiator of Cordierite System)

  • The thermal properties of cordierite (2MgO.2Al2O3.5SiO2)+30 wt% clay+ Xwt% MnO2 of infrared radiator have been investigated as a function of MnO2 additives (X=0,0.1,0.25,0.5,1.0,1.5,2.0,2.5). The thermal expansion coefficient was decreased with increasing amounts of MnO2 additives. Otherwise, the spectral emissivity was increased in the below 4.5 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ wavelength. Also, the infrared radiator of cordierite system which spectral emissivity was approximately 1.0 can be attainable at from 4.5 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ to 8 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ wavelength. The spectral emissivity was decreased from 8 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ to 14 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ above X=2.5.

  • Dense glass-ceramics for low firing temperature substrate were prepared by addition of CeO2 flux to the glass of MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 system. Glass powders were fabricated by melting at 150$0^{\circ}C$ and ball milling. Glass powder compacts were sintered at 800~100$0^{\circ}C$ for 3h. The crystallization and the shrinkage behaviors of glass powder compacts were analyzed by XRD, DTA and TMA. The shrinkage of glass powder compact increased with increasing the amount of CeO2. Because the softening temperature decreased and the crystallization temperature increased with increasing the amount of CeO2. Apparently, addition of CeO2 prevented formation of $\mu$-cordierite phase from the glass-ceramics and improved formation of $\alpha$-cordierite phase. Therefore crystallization properties were enhanced.

  • $900^{\circ}C$에서 합성된 코디에라이트의 합성 방법인 졸겔방법은 구리와 세라믹간의 상호 열처리를 가능하게 해준다. 구리와 코디에라이트 기판과의 강한 결합은 eutectic bonding 기술로 얻어질 수 있다. 구리와 코디에라이트의 접촉면에서 미시적 특성을 STEM을 이용하여 연구하였는데 구리의 확산은 강한 화학적, 구조적 변화와 함께 접촉면 영역에서 이루어지고 있다. 비록 이들 접촉면이 강한 접촉력을 가지고 있지만 접촉면에서 구리화합물의 형성에 대한 명백한 입증을 얻어내지는 못하였다.

플라이 애쉬를 이용한 코디어라이트 세라믹 하니컴 필터 제조 및 물성 (Fabrication and Physical Properties of Honeycomb Type Cordierite Ceramic Filter Using Fly-Ash)

  • The fabrication process of the honeycomb filter was investigated using synthesized cordierite with the addition of pore former and extrusion additives (either organic matter or graphite). Also, the effect of additives on the resultant properties of honeycomb filter such as porosity, thermal expansion coefficient and mechanical strength were investigated. With increasing the organic matter up to 10 wt%, porosity was increased but compressive strength was decreased. With increasing the graphite content, however, both porosity and compressive strength were increased. The specimen with an optimum processing condition (C-17A30G, sintering at $1150^{\circ}C$) was demonstrated 59% in porosity, 69 MPa in compressive strength, and $2.4{\times}10^{-6}/^{\circ}C\;(25{\sim}1000^{\circ}C$) in thermal expansion coefficient, which physical properties are appropriate for the honeycomb filter applications.
