The development of manganese nodule mining technology is very important in order to secure a long-term and stable supply of rare strategic metals. In the twenty years following the R&D activities with the international consortia in the 1970s, studies on mining technologies have been carried out by several national projects in Korea. The current metal prices such as copper, nickel, cobalt, and manganese have been drastically changed since 2002. Rapid economic growth of Asian countries, especially China, have induced the situation. And the possibility of copper shortage is looming just around the comer. Because of the imbalance between production and consumption, copper is fundamentally the most threatened metal in the future in terms of potential metal shortage. Manganese nodules contain a considerable percentage of copper as the future metal resource. Therefore, it is necessary to concentrate our effects on developing these resources. This paper introduces our evaluation of R&D progress for the development of manganese nodules. The issue and role of manganese nodules during the difficult period of a potential future metal shortage period is discussed and its prospect outlined. Also, this paper tried to emphasize the necessity of continuous R&D efforts for the commercial development of such mineral resources.
Colorant concentrates are prepared by use of concentration method of colorants extracted from Sappan wood using met hanol. Dyeabilities and fastness properties of silk fabrics dyed with concentrate of Sappan wood are investigated. The results obtained are as follows; 1. The storage stability of colorant concentrate is poor as concentration is excess. 2. Because the colors of dyeings are different with mordants, aluminium acetate, copper acetate, chromium alum and tin chloride are used in order to obtain reddish color. 3. The optimum dyeing temperature and dyeing time are 6$0^{\circ}C$ and 60 min, respectively. 4. Dry cleaning fastness is very good, and light fastness and washing fastness are low. 5. The dyeing method is simple owing to usehess of colorant concentrate prepared without extraction of colorant every time.

The variable flotation response ores from different deposits results basically from mineralogical association and their differences. Development of new techniques for analyzing the metallurgical performance of flotation and other concentration processes is demanded even in the treatment of rather simple ores such as porphyry ores. Diagnostic metallurgical analysis can be used to quantify the most possible recovery processes. Several porphyry copper/gold ores around the world were used to examine the responses in flotation, gravity separation and cyanidation in order to define the linkage between the recovery processes for both copper and old values. Laboratory batch flotation, gravity separation and cyanidation tests were carried out on these samples. All results were used to correlate the relative recovery of copper and gold, and to predict the highest possible metal recovery in the system. The metallurgical predictions were made according to the flotation conditions used and gravity separation. The results of various concentration processes on each porphyry ore samples are presented and discussed. All seven samples have shown significantly different gold/copper metallurgy. The grade/recovery relationships of gold and copper in the laboratory batch tests for the best results and the plants are given in the Figures below. The results of laboratory tests show that the copper recoveries converged to about $90\%$, but the gold recoveries were spread over $55-80\%$, except the K S ore. Series of standard cyanidation tests on the flotation concentrate samples and gravity separation using Knelson Separator on heads ores were carried out to cross-link the metallurgy and mineralogy of gold in the porphyry ores.

In order to obtain pure metallic Te from gold concentrate, roasting treatment, hypochlorite leaching, Fe removal and electrolysis experiments were carried out. The contents of Au, Ag and Te from the concentrate sample and roasted sample were much more soluble in the hypochlorite solution than in aqua regia digestion, whereas the metals Pb, Zn, Fe and Cu were easier to leach with the aqua regia than the hypochlorite. With the addition of NaOH in the hypochlorite leaching solution prior to electrolysis, the Fe removal rate achieved was only 96% in the concentrate sample, while it reached 98% in the roasted sample. The results of electrolysis for 240 min, 98% of the metallic copper was recovered from the concentrate sample, while 99% was obtained from the roasted sample due to the removal of S by roasting. The amount of anode slime was also greater in the electrolytic solution with the roasted sample than with the concentrate sample. The results on the anode slime after the magnetic separation process showed the amount of metallic pure native tellurium recovered was greater in the roasted sample than in the concentrate sample.
Background: The aim of the present study was to determine the effects of feeding trace mineralsfortified mixed microbial culture (TMC) on ruminal fermentation, nutrient digestibility, blood electrolyte status, nitrogen balance, and trace mineral balance in sheep. Methods: Mixed microbes [0.6 % (v/w) of Enterobacter sp., Bacillus sp., Lactobacillus sp., and Saccharomyces sp.] were cultured with 99 % feedstuffs and 0.4 % trace minerals including zinc and copper for ensiling. Six sheep (a mean body weight of $46.5{\pm}1.2kg$) were fed two diets: a control diet (concentrate mix and rye straw) and an experimental diet (a control diet + 3.1 % TMC). Results: TMC feeding did not induce negative effects on ruminal fermentation, nutrient digestibility, blood electrolytes, and nitrogen balance in sheep. Feeding with TMC increased the intake of trace minerals (p < 0.05) and did not affect absorption of trace minerals in the whole digestive tract. Feeding with TMC increased fecal excretion and absorbable intake, and retention of zinc and copper (p < 0.05) by 71 % and 77 %, respectively. Conclusion: Feeding with TMC resulted in higher zinc and copper bioavailability and retention without any adverse effects on sheep performance.

Copper is widely used in electric wire, cable, conductor in electric devices. As the demand for electric power is increasing rapidly, electric power devices are getting amazingly bigger and complicated. The using of light-weight conductor can reduce the size and making cost of the electric devices. In high-frequency application, Electric current the current in a conductor tends to shift to the surface of the conductor, resulting in an uneven current distribution in the inner conductor. In the extreme case the current may essentially concentrate in the "skin" of the inner conductor as a surface current. In high frequency application, therefore, inner area of copper conductor may replace with aluminum conductor, which reduces the weight of conductor. This paper describes the manufacture and evaluation of composite conductors made of copper and aluminum.
This study investigated the mineralogical characteristics and basic flotation properties of domestic molybdenum ores. The source mineral of molybdenum was identified as molybdenite, and the main gangue minerals in the raw ore were silicate minerals. Copper, lead, and zinc were also found in trace amounts. Based on the results of basic flotation properties, molybdenite's zeta potential showed negative charges in all pH ranges. The contact angle of molybdenite increased with pH, reaching a maximum of 74° at pH 9. In optimal conditions, the grade and recovery of the concentrate by unit flotation were MoS2 82.4% and 92.04%, respectively. Further investigation of the impurities in the concentrate revealed a sulfide mineral with surface characteristics similar to molybdenite and silicate minerals combined with molybdenite, which may degrade the quality of the concentrate. To improve the concentrate quality, we intend to control silicate minerals through regrinding and liberation and use column flotation to improve fine particle separation efficiency.
A large amount of waste copper slag containing about 35 ~ 45% iron has been generated and discarded every year from pyrometallurgical processes for producing copper from copper concentrate. Thus, recovery of iron from the waste copper slag is of great interest for comprehensive use of mineral resource and reduction of environment problems. In this study, a physico-chemical separation process for upgrading iron from the waste copper slag discharged as an industrial waste has been developed. The process first crushes the waste copper slag below 1 mm (first crushing step), followed by carbon reduction at $1225^{\circ}C$ for 90 min (carbon reduction step). And then, resulting material is again crushed to $-104{\mu}m$ (second crushing step), followed by wet magnetic separation (wet magnetic separation step). Using the developed process, a magnetic product containing more than 66 wt.% iron was obtained from the magnetic separation under a magnetic field strength of 0.2 T for the waste copper slag treated by the reduction reaction. At the same conditions, the percentage recovery of iron was over 72%. The iron rich magnetic product obtained should be used as a iron resource for making pig iron.
Present work was executed to evaluate effects of adjuvants. stabilizers. moisture. pH and heavy metals on the stability of Fenitrothion in the emulsifiable concentrate. In addition, susceptibility ' of Fenitrothion in various formulations, to UV-irradiation has been also examined. The results are summarized as follows; 1. Xylene and benzene were found to be satisfactory solvents for Fenitrothion emulsifiable concentrate. As expected, polar sol vents such as aliphatic alcohols considerably reduced stability of the pesticides. 2. Of the two non-ionic emulsifiers, an alkyl aryl type Sorpol-1200, in contrast to sorbitan type Tweens, substantially reduced decomposition of Fenitrothion in the emulsifiable concentrates. Moisture and pH of emulsifiers. in the ranges studied. affected little if any. on the stabi ity of the Fenitrothion during the experiment periods. 3. Maleic anhydride, p-toluene sulfonic acid, sulfosalicylic acid, maleic anhydride-sulfosalicylic acid reduced decomposition of Fenitrothion in the emulsifiable concentrate. Addition of organic acids, however, increased liability of Fenitrothion in the emulsifiable concentrate. 4. Presence of either zinc or copper metals in the emulsifiable concentrate containing Tween-80 as a emulsifier, reduced stability of the Fenitrothion. 5. UV-irradiation, as expected, brought decomposition of Fenitrothion. The liability of Fenitrothion formulations decreased in the order, wettable powder ${\gg}$ dust > emulsifiable concentrate.
