  • By extracting the variables related to the work stress generated from dental hygiene, identifying their relationships, this study aims to contribute to academic progress on work stress. The test results of this study are as follows for each hypothesis: 1. Among the work stress sensing factors, role ambiguity showed correlation to the active coping strategy and the passive coping strategy, whereas it did not have any correlation to the evasive reation. However, the physical resource environmental factor showed correlation to the active coping strategy, whereas it did not have any correlation to the other reation. 2. The passive coping strategy, among the work stress coping strategies, influences the role ambiguity, B type, work ambiguity, physical resource environmental factor by about 18.7%. 3. The active coping strategy, among the work stress coping strategies, influences the social support, role ambiguity, work place of health center factor by about 18.9%. 4. The evasive reaction, among the work stress coping strategies, was influenced by only the 36 years old over factor by approximately 4.2%. 5. It was found in all work stress sensing factors that the group with lower social support had a more degree of experiencing stress than the group with higher social support. In case of the behavior pattern, the type A experienced more stress than the type B only in role ambiguity. 6. It was found that the group with the higher social support tended to choose more active coping strategy than the lower social support. In case of behavior pattern, the type B coped more actively than type A in the passive coping strategy.

  • This study examined the effects of adolescents' stress coping behavior on gambling addiction using the irrational belief of gambling as a mediating variable. For this, a questionnaire survey was conducted on 377 high school students in Jeju. Data processing analysis of the research was verified by Baron & Kenny's regression analysis in 4 phases and a Sobel Test was done to verify the significance level on the mediation effect. The study results can be summarized as follows. First, while problem-focused coping had a negative (-) correlation with gambling addiction, emotion-focused coping had a positive (+) correlation with gambling addiction. Second, the irrational belief of gambling had no mediating effects on the relationship between problem-focused coping and gambling addiction. Third, the irrational belief of gambling had a full mediating effect on the relationship between emotion-focused coping and gambling addiction. In conclusion, emotion-focused coping under stress situations would enhance the gambling behavior by increasing the irrational belief of gambling. Therefore, it is necessary to develop programs to improve the adolescents' stress coping skills and rationally correct their irrational belief of gambling, which will be helpful in preventing adolescents' gambling addiction. The limitations of this study are discussed together with suggestions for future research.

  • Purpose: This study was performed to identify levels of clinical practice stress and coping strategies according to the personality/behavior types of nursing students. Methods: The subjects of this study were 143 third- and fourth-grade nursing students in 14 nursing colleges who had experienced clinical practice. The questionnaire consisted of instruments to identify Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, and Conscientiousness (DISC) personality/behavior types, clinical stress, and stress coping strategies. The data were analyzed using Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, descriptive statistics, and ANOVA, using the SPSS 24.0 program. Results: The DISC pattern showed high priority in Steadiness (48.3%), followed by Conscientiousness (21.0%), Influence (16.1%), and Dominance (14.7%), in that order. The steadiness type showed the lowest level of stress among four patterns. Conclusion: This study found that the personality/behavior types of nursing students differ. Additionally, different personality/behavior types can be attributed to stress levels and stress coping behaviors. Based on these results, different personality and behavior types of nursing students should be considered to manage their stress levels related to the clinical practicum experience.

  • The purposes of this study were to examine the coping behavior of the elderly in the warning phase of disaster and to explore factors influencing the coping behavior of the elderly. Data were collected from 130 senior citizens aged over 60 who are residing in Pyungchang and Injae of Kangwon province which had damaged by flood disaster in 2006. Perry & Lindell (1997)'s index, a series of six categories that represent coping behaviors which progressively approximate the action of evacuating in the warning phase of disasters was used. Results showed that respondents have high coping skills. Although Activities of Daily Living (ADL) has positive influence on the coping behavior, length of residence has negative effect on the coping behavior of the elderly. This finding proves the elderly are not uncompliant or uncooperative population in the warning phase of disaster. This result also emphasizes the importance of rapid and accurate giving of public warning system of disaster and necessity of prior notification of useful information about natural disaster and effective evacuation plan for the elderly.

  • Purpose: To develop the stress coping behavior measurement scale(SCBMS) for the workers in manufacturing industry. Methods: Developing of SCBMS was based on job stress and psycho-social health status. Job stress and psycho-social health status were estimated by using the Karasek's job content questionnaire (JCQ) and the general health questionnaire (GHQ-28), and the general characteristics for subjects were estimated by self-reported questionnaire and interview. Result: The subjects were 456 male workers who had never been occupationally exposed to hazardous chemical and other materials, was mean age 31.27 years and mean work duration was 4.81 years. As a result of factor analysis for developed stress coping questionnaire, four factors were extracted such as inactive, active, health and emotional behavior from 15 question items of stress coping questionnaire. Fifteen items passed for item internal consistency (100% success rate) and item discriminant validity (100% success rate). Cronbach's alpha coefficient for each factor ranged from 0.56 to 0.77. The active behavior correlated positively with job demand of JCQ (r=0.12, p<0.05), but total GHQ-28 was negatively correlation (r=-0.24, p<0.01), respectively. Conclusion: These results demonstrated the reliability and validity of SCBMS. Thus, the results may prove to be a useful assessment tool in evaluating stress coping behavior.

In addition, cognitive aspects which were known to influence stress coping behaviors were appraised. The findings of this research are as follows, First, regarding personality traits and stress coping behaviors, the unstable and unsocial group used the emotion-focused coping style more than the stable and social group. The two groups didn't show any significant differences in the problem-focused coping style. The A-type group used both the problem-focused style and the emotion-focused style more than the B-type group. The common characteristic of the unstable, the unsociable and the A-type groups was the heavy use of avoidance behaviors of the emotion-focused coping style. Second, In the correlation between the personal traits and the stress coping effects regarding adaptability, the stability influenced stress coping effects. Third, regarding the personality traits, the coping styles and the coping effects, A-type group showed high correlation with the sociability but not with the stability. The problem-focused coping style showed high correlation with the emotion-focused style. Fourth, the cognitive appraisal on the stress causes influenced the stress coping styles but not the stress coping effects. Fifth, the cognitive appraisal on the same stress causes didn't show any significant differences among the personality traits.

  • The purposes of this study is to understand the influence of culinary employees' stress coping styles in the deluxe hotel industry on counterproductive work behaviors and turnover intention. Based on total 345 culinary employees obtained from empirical research, this study reviewed the reliability and fitness of the research model and verified a total of 2 hypotheses using the AMOS program. The hypothesized relationships in the model test simultaneously by using a structural equation model(SEM). The proposed model provided an adequate fit to the data, ${\chi}^2$=736.474(p<0.001), df=233, GFI=.853, NFI=.901, CFI=.930, RMSEA=.079. Hypothesis $1^a$, which hypothesized a positive relationship between employees coping styles(avoid coping, ${\beta}$=.325; emotion coping, ${\beta}$=.261; job coping, ${\beta}$=-.203) and person-counterproductive work behavior was supported. As predicted by, Hypothesis $1^b$, employees' coping styles(job coping, ${\beta}$=-.307; avoid coping, ${\beta}$=.262; emotion coping, ${\beta}$=.146) had significant positive effects on organization-counterproductive work behavior. Also, employees' person-counterproductive work behavior(${\beta}$=.431) had significant positive effects on turnover intention(Hypothesis 2 was partially supported). Limitations and future research directions are also discussed.
