  • One new copepod species (Doropygus hoi n. sp.) is described based on specimens taken from solitary ascidians collected from the East Sea (Sea of Japan) and the South Sea. Doropygus pinguis Ooishi, 1962 taken from solitary ascidians, Styela plicata (Lesueur) and Boltenia echinata (Linnaeus), collected from 8 localities of the South Sea and the East Sea are redescribed.

  • Zamolgus cavenularius n. sp. is described from the pennatulacean cnidarian Cavernularia obesa Milne Edwards and Hailme in the Yellow Sea. The new species is readily distinguished from its congeners by the genital doublesomite, mandible, female maxilliped, and other structures. This is the first report on association of a member of Zamolgus with the pennatulacean and the second report on a copepod from the Korean pennatulacean.

  • Spongicola tropicanus, a new genus and species of the family Eunicicolidae, and Asterocheres brevisurculus, a new species of the family Asterocheridae, are described as copepods associated with the sponge Phyllospongia foliascens (Pallas) from the Moluccas. Spongicola is the second genus of the family and may be characterized by a two-segmented prosome, the absence of leg 3, and the presence of leg 5. Asterocheres brevisurculus may be charecterized by one-segmented mandibular palp, short oral siphon, and 19-segmented female antennule.

  • Two species of Tortanus (Eutortanus) are newly recorded from shallow Korean waters: T. (E.) vermiculus Shen, 1955 and T. (E.) komachi Itoh, Ohtsuka and Sato, 2001. As a result of this study, five species are reported in the subgenus of the family Tortanidae in Korea. The sequence of cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (CO1) is also provided as a molecular characteristic.

  • Zygomolgus dentatus n. sp. is described based on specimens from washings of compound ascidians from intertidal shores of Korea. It possesses the long caudal rami which are 5.6 times as long as their width, four scales on the convex side of mandible, and three setal elements and a large process on maxillule. Lichomolgides cuanensis Gotto, the only representative of the genus Lichomolgides, is transferred to the genus Zygomolgus.

  • Notodelphyid copepods taken from Ascidians, Ascidia samea (Oka) and Ascidia sp. which had been collected in the East sea and the Korea Strait are reported. These copepods are Lonchidiopsis hartmeyeri Vanh ffen, 1917 and Pachypygus curvatus Ooishi 1961, and are redescribed as new records to the Korea fauna.

  • A taxonomic study on the genus Nitakra (Ameiridae) is accomplished. A total of five species are collected from coastal marshes, lagoons, and estuaries in South Korea. Among them, the latter three species are newly recorded from Korea: N. spinipes Boeck, N. affinis califarnica Lang and N. pietschmanni (Chappuis). Taxonomic accounts and a key to the species from Korea are given.

  • Harpacticoid copepods are one of the most important components in the benthic meiofaunal community. In spite of their numerical significance the study of harpacticoids in Korea, as distinct from meiofauna in general (Kim et al., 1998, 2000a, b), has been limited. During the course of investigation on ecological significance of harpacticoids in the intertidal sandy shore, a new species of the genus Rhizothrix was determined and described here. (omitted)

  • A new cyclopoid species belonging to the genus Acanthocyclops is described from several mountain springs in South Korea. This species is allied to A. kieferi species group in sharing 11-segmented antennules, but is, clearly distinguished from them by its single apical spine on the third endopodal segment of leg 4 and an extra spine on the distal segment of leg 5 in both sexes.
