  • This paper presents studies on curvature radius measurement using the laser interferometer. It is a general practice to measure to $10^{-10}$m in length with the recent improvement and innovations in measurement technology and the processor used. The measurement methods can generally be categorized as these two: the contactual method and non-contactual method; and in this study, we will find ways to lower the cost for a CMM, or a coordinate measurement machine, and try to find an alternative. Furthermore, we will discuss some of the ways to improve the non-contactual measurement methods-optical interferometer method and the optical triangulation method. We will measure an object using a laser distance measuring device and Set the Point-contact result with the ball-bearing type and line-contact result with the bearing type, to decide on which probe type will be used.

  • Recently, the system of high speed milling(HSM) is widely used for reducing the operation time and maximizing efficiency of work. The most research of high speed milling system is still leaves much to be desired. Specially the research of mass pocket high speed processing with high precision is the first and probably the last. So this paper showed mass pocket processing of high precision with a duralumin and then confirmed a cause of inferior goods through the CAD/CAM pattern simulation and experimentation. And this paper showed high speed processing system reduce the rate of inferior from this optimal pattern.

  • This paper proposes a measurement method for the surface of micro-parts by using AFM(Atomic Force Microscope). To this end, two techniques are presented to extend the capacity of AFM. First, the measurement range is extended by using an image matching method based on correlation coefficients. To account for the inaccuracy of the coarse stage implemented in AFM's, the image matching technique is applied to two neighboring images intentionally overlapped with each other. Second, a method to measure the shape of relatively large specimen is presented by using the inherent trigger mechanism due to the atomic force. The proposed method is proved effective through a series of experiments.

  • Recently more complex geometric shapes, including freeform surfaces, are adopted for the design of products to emphasize style or beauty. Modeling of these products is extremely difficult or often impossible. Reverse engineering is the latest technology that can solve the problem by generating CAD models from the physical mockups or prototype models. Reverse engineering uses the coordinate measuring machine(CMM) to get the shape data of products. CMM is limited by the size of the product; therefore it must need the feature to solve it. The tooling-ball which is generally used for feature has difficulty in being used for soft products. Besides, the higher the accuracy of the tooling-ball is, the more expensive its cost is. This study will develop the feature of high accuracy without additional tools and compare the difference of accuracy by it.

  • It is very important to measure circular motion accuracy of NC lathes it affects accuracy, performance, interchange ability and quality of machine parts machined by the NC lathes in industries. So, in this study, measuring units system to measure circular motion accuracy two axes circular motion accuracy of NC lathes was composed of two optical linear scales installed on the z and x-axes of work coordinate system on NC lathe and a computer inserted with PC counter card enables to obtain measuring data. Here, ATC(Automatic Tool Changer) and moving part of linear scales are fixed with magnet bases in order to measure circular motion accuracy of the ATC of NC lathe. And next, computer software was developed in order to measure the circular motion accuracy of NC lathe under resolution of 0.1 $\mu\textrm{m}$ using two linear scales, and also computer softwares were developed so that measuring data could be modeled on plots and be analyzed numerically,

  • Ensuring the quality of molds is one of the major issues in mass production. In general, securing the quality of the molds is achieved by repeating grinding and die spotting after machining the molds based on engineer's decision. However, this heuristic method is affected by the engineer's skill and working environment. Therefore, a lot of time and resources are needed in order to ensure quality. In this study, ensuring the quality of molds using grinding map which is generated using automatic measurement is proposed. An automatic measuring system based on CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) is developed for measuring the molds. This system generates the measurement path automatically using the 3D CAD model of products. CAD (ComputerAided-Design), CAM (Computer-Aided-Manufacturing), and CAQ (Computer-Aided-Quality) technology is integrated using DMIS (Dimensional Measuring Interface Standard) format in the automatic measuring system. After measuring the molds, a grinding map is generated using the gap between the CAD model and measured values of mold. The grinding map displays the machining tendency and the required amount of grinding with values on a 3D map. Therefore, the quality of molds can be ensured with exactness and quickness based on the grinding map. This study shows that integrating the planning, measuring, and analyzing based on computer technology can solve the problem of quality assurance of mold using the proposed method, therefore the productivity can be increased.

  • The demand for three-dimensional (3D) shape measurements is increasing in a variety of fields, including the manufacture of molds and dies. The most popular technology for 3D shape measurement is the coordinate measuring machine (CMM) with a contact trigger probe. Although a CMM provides a high degree of accuracy, it is inefficient due to its long measuring time. It also has difficulty measuring soft objects that can be deformed by the touch of the contact probe. In addition, a CMM cannot digitize areas that are difficult to reach, and cannot capture very minute details on the surface of complex parts. For these reasons, optical non-contact measurement techniques are receiving more attention since they eliminate most of the problems associated with contact methods. Laser scanning is emerging as one of the more promising non-contact measurement techniques. This paper describes various acquisition considerations for laser scanning, including the accuracy of the 3D scan data, which depends on the charge-coupled device (CCD) gain and noise. The CCD gain and noise of a 3D laser scanner are varied while keeping the other conditions constant, and the measurement results are compared to the dimensions of a standard model. The experimental results show that a considerable time savings and an optimum degree of accuracy are possible by selecting the proper CCD gain and noise.

  • The machining accuracy is affected by geometric, volumetric errors of the machine tools. To improve the product quality, we need to enhance the machining accuracy of the machine tools. To this point of view, measurement and inspection of finished part as error analysis of machine tools ahas been studied for last several decades. This paper suggests the enhancement method of machining accuracy for precision machining of high quality metal reflection mirror or optics lens, etc. In this paper, we study 1) the compensation of linear pitch error with NC controller compensation function using laser interferometer measurement, 2) the method for enhancing the accuracy of NC milling machining by modeling and compensation of volumetric error, 3) the spherical surface manufacturing by modeling and compensation of volumetric error of the machine tool, 4) the system development of OMM without detaching work piece from a bed of machine tool after working, 5) the generation of the finished part profile by OMM. Furthermore, the output of OMM is compared with that of CMM, and verified the feasibility of the measurement system.

  • X-ray images are wildly used in medical applications, and these can be more efficiently find scoliosis which is appearing during the growth of human skeleton than others. This research is focused on the calibration of X-ray image and three-dimensional coordinate determination of objects. Three-dimensional coordinate of objects taken by X-ray are determined by two step procedure. Firstly, interior and exterior orientation parameters are determined by camera calibration using Primary Calibration Object (PCO) which has two sides with embedded radiopaque steel ball. Secondly, calibration cage coordinates which is composed of two acrylic sheets that are perpendicular to X-ray source are determined by the parameters. Three-dimensional coordinates of calibration cage determined by photogrammetric technique are compared with that of Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM). Though the accuracy analysis, X direction which is parallel to X-ray source error values are relatively higher than those of Y and Z directions. But, the accuracies of Y and Z axis are approximately -3 mm to 3 mm. From the research results, it is considered that photogrammetric technique is applied to determine three-dimensional coordinates of patients or assist to make medical devices.
