The flowfield characteristics in a straight rectangular channel have been investigated through a numerical model to analyze the regenerative cooling system that is used in rocket engine cooling. The supercritical hydrogen coolant introduces strong property variations that have a major influence on the developing flow and heat transfer characteristics. Of particular interest is the improved understanding of the physical characteristics of such flows through parametric studies. The approach used is a numerical solution of the full Navier-Stokes equations in the three dimensional form including the arbitrary equation of state and property variations. The present study compares constant and variable property solutions for both laminar and turbulent flow. For laminar flow, the variation of aspect ratio is examined, while for turbulent flow, the effects of variation of channel length and Reynolds number are discussed.

The general cooling tower is a device for making a cooling water in refrigerant condensers or industrial process heat exchangers. The present cooling tower have defects with noises, complicated structure and environmental problems. In this paper, we constituted a new water cooling system by using a evaporating latent heat in an enclosed tank, and this system is consisted of an enclosed vacuum tank and water driving ejector system. Several experimental cases were carried out for improvement methods of high vacuum pressure and water cooling characteristics. The ejector performance was tested in case of water temperature variations that flows in the ejector. Based on the vacuum pressure by water driving ejector, the water cooling characteristics were investigated for the vaporized air condensing effects.
In order to protect the turbine blade from working fluid of high temperature, many cooling techniques such as internal convection cooling, film cooling, impinging jet cooling and thermal barrier coating have been developed. With all other things, film-cooling has been widely used as the important alternative. In the present work, numerical analysis has been performed to investigate and to compare the film-cooling performance of various film-cooling hole schemes such as cylindrical, crescent, louver, and dumbbell holes. To analyze the turbulent flow and the film-cooling mechanism, three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes analysis has been performed with shear stress transport turbulence model. The validation of numerical results has been assessed in comparison with experimental data. The characteristics of fluid flow and the film-cooling performance for each shaped hole have been investigated and evaluated in terms of centerline, laterally averaged and spatially averaged film-cooling effectivenesses. Among the film cooling holes, the dumbbell shaped hole shows better film-cooling effectiveness than the other shaped holes. And the louver and cylindrical shaped hole show the worst film cooling performance, and concentrated flows on near the centerline only.

Flow fields in model engine cooling passages are studied numerically by using TURBO-3D program, a finite volume based 3-D turbulent flow program adopting a general body fitted coordinate system. The effects of exit position on mass flow rate at each gasket hole are examined for a model cooling passage in order to understand the flow distribution inside the water jacket. The results of the present study can be applied to the design of high performance, high reliability engine.
In order to analyse the thermal performance of battery systems in electric vehicles complex simulation models with high computational cost are necessary. Using reduced order methods, real-time applicable model can be developed and used for on-board monitoring. In this work a data driven model of the cooling plate as part of the battery system is built and derived from a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model. The aim of this paper is to create a meta model of the cooling plate that estimates the temperature at the boundary for different heat flow rates, mass flows and inlet temperatures of the cooling fluid. In order to do so, the cooling plate is simulated in a CFD software (ANSYS Fluent ®). A data driven model is built using the design of experiment (DOE) and various approximation methods in Optimus ®. The model can later be combined with a reduced model of the thermal battery system. The assumption and simplification introduced in this paper enable an accurate representation of the cooling plate with a real-time applicable model.
We perform numerical experiments on supernova-driven turbulent flows in order to see whether or not supernovae playa major role in driving turbulence in the interstellar medium. In a $(200pc)^3$ computational box, we set up, as initial conditions, uniformly magnetized gas distributions with different pairs of hydrogen number densities and magnetic field strengths, which cover the observed values in the Galactic midplane. We then explode supernovae at randomly chosen positions at a Galactic explosion rate and follow up the evolution of the supernova-driven turbulent flows by integrating numerically the ideal MHD equations with cooling and heating terms. From the numerical experiments we find that the density-weighted velocity dispersions of the flows are in the range of 5-10 km $s^{-l}$, which are consistent with the observed velocity dispersions of cold and warm neutral media. Additionally, we find that strong compressible flows driven by supernova explosions quickly change into solenoidal flows.

The cooling water circulation plates had been used to drop the temperature of refractory outside shell of common cooling system by using cooling plate or stave type. When they are attacked by surrounding gas, they are corroded and the water flows in the refractory due to leakage of water. So, the life of refractory material is shortened and changed due to the worse conditions of cooling system. The automatic sensing device for water leakage of cooling plate is developed to check the position of trouble by using the microprocessor system when cooling water leak and gas are flowed into the cooling plate through the leakage position. The flowed gas is detected in the micro-process system which delivers the detected position of cooling plate or stave to main control room through the wireless-radio relay station. This system can be possible to detect the position of cooling plate or stave against the water leakage part immediately and then deliver the signal to main control room by using the microprocessor system and wireless-radio relay station. This system will be developed in changing the working condition from manual system to unmanned auto alarm system.
The capillary pumped cooling system (CPCS) is a cooling system which controls temperature of the small electronic devices, such as IC device systems, notebook computers, etc. An important feature of CPCS is that a working fluid circulates in a system by capillary force in tubes instead of mechanical input power. The cooling effect of CPCS is investigated with respect to heat flux, condensation temperature under different working fluids (water, ethanol, methanol). Capillary pumped flows are visualized under various conditions and mass flow rate and temperature are experimentally measured. It is shown that the increasing tendency of mass flux for each working fluid is observed as the temperature of evaporator increases, and that the cooling possibility of CPCS depends on the performance of evaparator and condenser which sustains the steady state temperature continuously.
We report preliminary results from a radio study of central galaxies in cool and non-cool core clusters. A cooling flow is expected to rapidly form in the center of galaxy clusters unless additional heating mechanisms such as merging with sub clusters are at work. It has been suggested that cool flows can feed the AGN in the central galaxies, increasing their power. On the other hand, the AGN feedback can also affect the surrounding medium, heating back up the gas in the cluster core region. In this study, we investigate the co-evolution of cool flows and the AGN of galaxies located in the cluster center. For this study, we have selected 13 radio bright central galaxies from clusters with a range of cooling time scale. In this work, we present results of our recent observations using the Korean VLBI Network. We discuss the properties of the sample in radio and other wavelengths.
We have systematically investigated the X-ray spectra of normal galaxies, by using the Imaging Proportional Counter (IPC) data in the Einstein data base. We employed the X-ray color-color plot as well as the standard model fitting method which requires higher signal to noise ratio. We discuss X-ray emission mechanisms in terms of their spectral properties and the signature of cooling flows which are most likely present in X-ray bright early type galaxies. On the average, fits to absorbed thermal spectra show that the X-ray emission temperature of spirals is higher than that of ellipticals. This is consistent with our understanding that accreting binaries are a major X-ray source in spirals, while extended gaseous halos are present in ellipticals. The emission temperature becomes lower with increasing X-ray to optical luminosity ratio in E and S0 galaxies. This result is what we would expect if the emission of X-ray faint early type galaxies consists of a large evolved stellar component, while the gaseous emission becomes dominant in X-ray brighter galaxies. We also find a cool, self-absorbed core in some early type galaxies, which directly indicates the presence of cooling flows in such galaxies.
