  • In this paper, a theoretical model that separates one single conversion factor into two conversion factors for both outpatients and inpatients is introduced. By using hypothetical numbers, two conversion factors and an adjustment factor were calculated. The major implications are as follows. Firstly, by introducing two conversion factors, a minimum incentive mechanism for admitting outpatients to a clinic and high risk inpatients to a hospital was installed. Secondly, the introduction of two conversion factors decreased the drive to admit outpatients to a hospital by reducing the economic benefits for the hospital. Thirdly, it is possible to make explicit contracts for several factors rather than a single conversion factor, so that it can be used as an appropriate management tool for rapidly increasing medical expenses. Finally, this research can be used to set up policy tools to establish a proper healthcare delivery system in Korea by inducing behavioral changes in healthcare institutions.

  • Conversion Disorder is a disorder whose predominant feature is a loss or alteration in physical functioning that suggests a physical disorder but that is actually a direct expression of a psychological conflict or need. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-IV (DSM-IV) guidelines for Conversion Disorder include these definitions: A psychosocial stressor produces a psychological conflict that is believed to help initiate or exacerbate the illness The symptoms are not under conscious control, etc. While functional disabilities are common with conversion disorders, physical and laboratory abnormalities are absent or minor in comparison with the patient's subjective complaints. Symptoms of Conversion Disorder are similar to those of stroke. But the mechanism of Conversion Disorder is similar as that of Stagnation Syndrome of Ki (氣鬱證) in Oriental medicine. Gaegyeolseogyeong-tang has been used to treat women who suffer from Conversion Disorder induced by the Stagnation Syndrome of Ki (氣鬱證). After application of the Gaegyeolseogyeong-tang for 7 days, symptoms and signs improved dramatically.

  • Voice conversion can be applied to various voice processing applications. It can also play an important role in data augmentation for speech recognition. The conventional method uses the architecture of voice conversion with speech synthesis, with Mel filter bank as the main parameter. Mel filter bank is well-suited for quick computation of neural networks but cannot be converted into a high-quality waveform without the aid of a vocoder. Further, it is not effective in terms of obtaining data for speech recognition. In this paper, we focus on performing voice-to-voice conversion using only the raw spectrum. We propose a deep learning model based on the transformer network, which quickly learns the voice conversion properties using an attention mechanism between source and target spectral components. The experiments were performed on TIDIGITS data, a series of numbers spoken by an English speaker. The conversion voices were evaluated for naturalness and similarity using mean opinion score (MOS) obtained from 30 participants. Our final results yielded 3.52±0.22 for naturalness and 3.89±0.19 for similarity.

  • Photoluminescence up-conversion in semiconductor heterostructures is a phenomenon in which luminescence occurs at energies higher than that of the excitation photons. It has been observed in many semiconductor heterostructure systems, including InP/AnALAs, CdTe/CdMgTe, GaAs/ordered-(Al)GalnP, GaAs/AIGaAs, and InAs/GaAs. In this wort, GaAs/AIGaAs heterostructures are used as a model system to study the mechanism of the up-conversion process. This system is ideal for testing different models because the band offsets are quite well documented. Different heterostructures are designed to study the effect of disorder on the up-converted luminescence efficiency. In order to study the roles of different types of carriers, the effect of doping was investigated. It was found that the up-converted luminescence is significantly enhanced by p-type doping of the higher-band-gap material.

  • Considering the stimulatory effects of ginsenosides from Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer on the release of nitric oxide from bovine aortic endothelial cells in vitro and vasodilatation of rabbit pulmonary artery in vivo, the present study is designed to investigate the mechanism of nitric oxide release by ginsenosides in calf pulmonary artery endothelial cells, Nitric oxide release was determined in endothelial cells treated with ginsenosides and compared with those of the receptor-dependent agonists, bradykinin and ADP and the receptor-independent calcium ionophore $A_{23187}$. The results showed that total saponin and ginsenoside $Rg_1$, not $Rb_1$, stimulated nitric oxide release measured as conversion to L-citrulline. The nitric oxide releasing properties of total saponin and ginsenoside $Rg_1$ were different; total saponin stimulated only conversion to L-citrulline, like $A_{23187}$, while ginsenoside $Rg_1$ stimulated both L-arginine transport and conversion to L-citrulline, as bradykinin or ADP did.

  • Effects of polyamines on ethylene biosynthesis were studied in synchronized suspension cultured cells from leaf segments of Nicotiana tabacum L. Putrescine, spermidine and spermine inhibited the endogenous production of both ACC and ethylene. Those production was more remarkably inhibited by spermidine and spermine than putrescine. These results were the same tendency with those obtained from exogenous application of SAM and ACC. Polyamines had more inhibitory effect on hte conversion of ACC to ethylene than that of SAM to ACC, but ACC was not accumulated. The inhibition rate of exogenously applied ACC conversion to ethylene was well coincident with that of exogenously applied SAM conversion to ethyene via ACC by polyamines. However, polyamines inhibited more the activity of ACC synthase than that of EFE. From these results we can suggest that polyamines inhibit both steps of SAM to ACC and ACC to ethylene, and more effectively the latter than the former.

  • Photophysics of 10-hydroxybenzo[h]quinoline (HBQ) has been in controversy, in particular, on the nature of the electronic states before and after the excited state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT), even though the dynamics and mechanism of the ESIPT have been well established. We report highly time resolved fluorescence spectra over the full emission frequency regions of the enol and keto isomers and the anisotropy in time domain to determine the accurate rates of the population decay, spectral relaxation and anisotropy decay of the keto isomer. We have shown that the ~300 fs component observed frequently in ESIPT dynamics arises from the $S_2{\rightarrow}S_1$ internal conversion in the reaction product keto isomer and that the ESIPT occurs from the enol isomer in $S_1$ state to the keto isomer in $S_2$ state.

  • High modulus pitch based carbon fibers (HM) were exposed to isothermal oxidation using tube furnace in carbon dioxide gas to study the oxidation kinetics under the temperature of $800-1100^{\circ}C$. The kinetic equation $f=1-{\exp}(-at^b)$ was introduced and the constant b was obtained in the range of 1.02~1.42. The oxidation kinetics were evaluated by the reaction-controlling regime (RCR) depending upon the apparent activation energies with the conversion increasing from 0.2 to 0.8. The activation energies decrease from 24.7 to 21.0 kcal/mole with the conversion increasing from 0.2 to 0.8, respectively. According to the RCR, the reaction was limited by more diffusion controlling regime for the HM fibers with the conversion increasing. Therefore, it seems that the oxidation which is under the diffusion controlling regime takes place continuously from the skin to the core of the fiber.

  • In order to evaluate the mechanism of electrolytic oxidation of iodate and to determine the optimum conditions for the electrolysis, studies were made using the cells without diaphragm and the lead peroxide anode. Results are summarized as followings: 1) Current density vs. anode potential curve by lead peroxide electrode had the different limiting current densities from platinum electrode and was more positive than platinum electrode. 2) Additions of potassium bichromate in the electrolyte contribute to maintain high current efficiency. 3) In the acid and alkaline regions, the current efficiencies decreased by reduction of iodate and discharge of hydroxyl ion, so maximum current efficiency was shown at pH 7. 4) Higher current density lowered the current efficiency in the region of 60-80% conversion of iodate. 5) Influence of the conversion on current efficiency in the region of 60-80% conversion of iodate.

  • Titanium dioxide ($TiO_2$) thin films were deposited by the sol-gel method with a surfactant-assisted mechanism. Its application for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) was investigated. Brunauer-Emmett-Teller, X-ray diffraction and field emission scanning electron microscopy techniques were used to characterize the surface characteristics of thin films. Photovoltaic-current density measurements were performed to determine the photoelectrochemical properties of the thin films and the performance of DSSCs. Energy conversion efficiency of about 6.1% was achieved for cells with conductive glass under illumination with AM 1.5 (100 $mWcm^{-2}$) simulated sunlight. Investigation showed higher photo-energy conversion efficiency for mesoporous $TiO_2$ nanocrystalline films used in DSSCs relative to commercially available Degussa P25 films.
