  • The Local Volume Mapper (LVM), for the Sloan Digital Sky Survey V, consists of four 16 cm telescopes with three fiber spectrographs in the Las Campanas Observatory in Chile. With the fixed telescopes on optical tables, the Alt-Alt mounted siderostats point and guide targets during spectrograph exposures. We are developing the integrated LVM instrument control software. Considering international travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, we decided to make a simplified version of siderostat to test the LVM telescope control system in Korea. The prototype siderostat consists of two aluminum flat mirrors, optomechanical housing structures made by aluminum profiles, and the Planewave L-350 mount. We designed the optical mirrors and the optomechanical structure of the siderostat. From structural analysis at various pointing cases, we estimated the tilt misalignments of mirrors within 4 arcsec, which would affect the telescope pointing errors.

  • GMACS is one of the instruments for the Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT) which will provide wide field, multi-object, moderate resolution spectroscopy of faint targets. KHU (Kyung Hee University) is in charge of control software of GMACS. As a first step, the Slit Mask Exchange Mechanism Prototype (SMEM-P) will be used as a preliminary example to make development process between electronics and high level software. Recently, we have developed a sample program to communicate with low level devices via EtherCAT. It is expected to be a mockup design for software and control system of GMACS. In this poster, we show the development process and test operation results of control software for SMEM-P.

  • Spectral energy distribution camera for QUasars in EArly uNiverse (SQUEAN) is a successor of Camera for Quasars in EArly uNiverse (CQUEAN) which was developed by Center for the Exploration of the Origin of the Universe and operated at the 2.1 m Otto Struve Telescope in the McDonald Observatory, USA, since 2010. The software of SQUEAN controls a science camera, a guiding camera, and a filter wheel, and communicates with the telescope control system (TCS). It has been constantly revised and modularized according to the upgrades of the TCS and the hardware changes. Recently we have implemented the stable network communication and the semi-automatic focusing modules to enhance observational convenience. In this presentation we describe the current status of the SQUEAN control software and introduce a software architecture which is optimized on efficient astronomical observations.

  • The Giant Magellan Telescope (GMT) will feature two interchangeable Gregorian secondary mirrors, an adaptive secondary mirror (ASM) and a fast-steering secondary mirror (FSM). The FSM has an effective diameter of 3.2 m and built as seven 1.1 m diameter circular segments, which are conjugated 1:1 to the seven 8.4m segments of the primary. Each FSM segment contains a tip-tilt capability for fine co-alignment of the telescope subapertures and fast guiding to attenuate telescope wind shake and mount control jitter. This tip-tilt capability thus enhances performance of the telescope in the seeing limited observation mode. As the first stage of the FSM development, KASI conducted a Phase 0 study to develop a program plan detailing the design and manufacturing process for the seven FSM segments. The GMTO-KASI team matured this plan via an internal review in May 2016 and the revised plan was further assessed by an external review in June 2016. In this poster, we present the technical aspects of the FSM development plan.

  • A new CCD camera equipped with a large format chip is now under construction for the Kiso 105-cm Schmidt telescope. We use SITe TK2048E, of which pixel size is 24 ${\mu}m$ and chip size is 48 mm square. TK2048E is thinned back-illuminated so that it has high sensitivity in U-band. The chip is cooled by a refrigerator instead of liquid nitrogen. MESSIA III is used as CCD control system.

  • Intracluster stars are believed to be gravitationally bound to a galaxy cluster, however, not to individual cluster galaxies. Their presence is observed as diffuse light typically in the central region extended from the brightest cluster galaxy. The diffuse light, often referred to as intracluster light (ICL), is difficult to quantify in distant high-redshift galaxy clusters because of the significant surface brightness dimming although ICL observations in high-redshift clusters provide powerful constraints on the origin of intracluster stars. In this poster, we present ICL study of the distant galaxy cluster SPT2106-5844 at z=1.132 with Hubble Space Telescope IR imaging data. With careful control of systematics, we successfully quantify the total amount of the ICL, measure the color profile, and obtain its two-dimensional distribution. Our measurement of the high abundance of the intracluster stars in this young cluster favors the ICL formation scenario, wherein production of intracluster stars are predominantly associated with the BCG formation.

  • Speckle Interferometer equipped with an ITT intensified CCD have been used on the NCUO ( National Central University Observatory, Taiwan) 24-inch telescope for studying the orbits of bright binary systems selected from the Yale's Bright Star Catalogue. The high resolution and high sensitivity ITT intensified solid state video camera ( F4577 ) has external gain and gate control functions which will simplify the design of the speckle camera and allow us to do precise speckle photometry. The goal of this project is trying to study the bright binary systems with separations between the average size of seeing disk and the diffraction limit of the 24-inch telescope. Recently some observing data have been reduced and compared with the other teams' results. We are now improving the data reduction technology and trying to use real time observing mode on the monthly routine observation.
