  • This paper presents a discrete-time approximate linear model of the continuous-time pulse-width-modulated linear system, and then, by employing the resultant model, a simple LQ suboptimal control scheme is proposed for a DC-DC step-down buck converter. The proposed scheme effectively regulates the output voltage to the desired level, which is also verified by the numerical simulation.

  • The first-order plus dead time(FOPDT) and second-order plus dead time(SOPDT), which describes a linear monotonic process quite well in most chemical and industrial processes and is often sufficient for PID and IMC controller tuning. This paper presents an application of heuristic harmony search(HS) optimization algorithm to the identification of linear continuous time-delay systems from step response. This recently developed HS algorithm is conceptualized using the musical process of searching for a perfect state of harmony. It uses a stochastic random search instead of a gradient search so that derivative information is unnecessary. The effectiveness of the proposed identification method has been demonstrated through a number of simulation examples.

  • In this paper, a methodology is developed to remove the reaching phase and the high frequency chattering phenomenon which are the common drawbacks of variable structrue control (VSC) system. A time varying switching surface is proposed to achieve sliding motion during the entire control process and a continuous control law whose terms are continuous functions inside a boundary layer neighbouring the time varying switching surface is developed to remove the high frequency chattering phenomenon of VSC. The methodology developed in this paper is applied to the 2'nd order time varying system and the simulated results are compared with those of typical VSC methodology.

  • Due to the asymptotic property, deadbeat control can hardly be applied to the continuous time system control. But some delay element method can deal such a problem. Besides delay element method, well-known digital deadbeat control can be used by the aid of some smoothing elements. In this paper, 2nd order smoothing element is used for the smoothing of the digital deadbeat controller. And this element is argumented to the plant, and so control problem is to control the argumented system digitally. We simulated this control system using Matlab language and finally apply this algorithm to the rotary inverted pendulum system.

  • This paper explores different vibration control strategies for the cancellation of human-induced vibration on a structure with time-varying modal parameters. The main motivation of this study is a lively urban stress-ribbon footbridge (Pedro $G\acute{o}mez$ Bosque, Valladolid, Spain) that, after a whole-year monitoring, several natural frequencies within the band of interest (normal paring frequency range) have been tracked. The most perceptible vibration mode of the structure at approximately 1.8 Hz changes up to 20%. In order to find a solution for this real case, this paper takes the annual modal parameter estimates (approx. 14000 estimations) of this mode and designs three control strategies: a) a tuned mass damper (TMD) tuned to the most-repeated modal properties of the aforementioned mode, b) two semi-active TMD strategies, one with an on-off control law for the TMD damping, and other with frequency and damping tuned by updating the damper force. All strategies have been carefully compared considering two structure models: a) only the aforementioned mode and b) all the other tracked modes. The results have been compared considering human-induced vibrations and have helped the authors on making a decision of the most advisable strategy to be practically implemented.

  • Blood pressure is one of the key physiological parameters for determining human health, and can prove whether human cardiovascular function is healthy or not. In general, what we call blood pressure refers to arterial blood pressure. Blood pressure fluctuates greatly and, due to the influence of various factors, even varies with each heartbeat. Therefore, achievement of continuous blood pressure measurement is particularly important for more accurate diagnosis. It is difficult to achieve long-term continuous blood pressure monitoring with traditional measurement methods due to the continuous wear of measuring instruments. On the other hand, radar technology is not easily affected by environmental factors and is capable of strong penetration. In this study, by using machine learning, tried to develop a linear blood pressure prediction model using data from a public database. The radar sensor evaluates the measured object, obtains the pulse waveform data, calculates the pulse transmission time, and obtains the blood pressure data through linear model regression analysis. Confirm its availability to facilitate follow-up research, such as integrating other sensors, collecting temperature, heartbeat, respiratory pulse and other data, and seeking medical treatment in time in case of abnormalities.

  • A new discretization method for calculating a sampled-data representation of a nonlinear continuous-time system is proposed. The proposed method is based on the well-known Taylor series expansion and zero-order hold (ZOH) assumption. The mathematical structure of the new discretization method is analyzed. On the basis of this structure, a sampled-data representation of a nonlinear system with a time-delayed input is derived. This method is applied to obtain a sampled-data representation of a non-affine nonlinear system, with a constant input time delay. In particular, the effect of the time discretization method on key properties of nonlinear control systems, such as equilibrium properties and asymptotic stability, is examined. 'Hybrid' discretization schemes that result from a combination of the 'scaling and squaring' technique with the Taylor method are also proposed, especially under conditions of very low sampling rates. Practical issues associated with the selection of the method parameters to meet CPU time and accuracy requirements are examined as well. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated using a nonlinear system with a time-delayed non-affine input.

  • The lifting technique is a standard control procedure that is commonly applied to dual-rate systems, where a critical difficulty is that care must be taken so that the resulting equivalent system preserves the causality constraint between the control signal and the measured output. To overcome this difficulty, the most attractive result has been suggested by defining control time sequences as the union of sample and hold time sequences. However, the sacrifice of regular control period scheme results in some serious disadvantages; restrictions on the implementation to hardware and the corresponding inefficient control scheme. On the contrary, this paper proposes a novel dual-rate control technique, which redescribes the system as a control-rate-based system having regular control period and designs the controller, with no causality constraint, through Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) formulation.

  • The stability robustness problem of continuous linear systems with nominal and delayed time-varying perturbations is considered. In the previous results, the entire bound was derived only for the overall perturbations without separation of the perturbations. In this paper, the sufficient condition for stability of the system with two perturbations, which are nominal and delayed, is expressed as linear matrix inequalities(LMIs). The corresponding stability bounds fer those two perturbations are determined by LMI(Linear Matrix Inequality)-based generalized eigenvalue problem. Numerical examples are given to compare with the previous results and show the effectiveness of the proposed.

Abstract In this paper, we present static and dynamic constraint transformation techniques for ensuring timing requirements in a distributed real-time system possessing periodically synchronized distributed local clocks. Traditional discrete clock synchronization algorithms that adjust local clocks instantaneously yield time discontinuities. Such time discontinuities lead to the loss or the gain of events, thus raising serious run-time faults. While continuous clock synchronization is generally suggested to avoid the time discontinuity problem, it incurs too much run-time overhead to be implemented in software. We propose a dynamic constraint transformation (DCT) technique which can solve the problem without modifying discrete clock synchronization algorithms. We formally prove the correctness of the DCT by showing that the DCT with discrete clock synchronization generates the same task schedule as the continuous clock synchronization. We also investigate schedulability problems that arise when imperfect local clocks are used in distributed real-time systems. We first define two notions of schedulability, global schedulability and local schedulability, and then present a static constraint transformation (SCT) technique. The SCT ensures that it is sufficient to check the schedulability of a task locally in a node with a local clock, since the global schedulability of the task is derived from its local schedulability through SCT. We formally prove the correctness of SCT.
