A variety of attempts for trends to overcome the limits of the uniform styles and a fixed dichotomous structure and thoughts, have been made. This research aims to apply and analyze the application of concepts of the liminal space of contemporary architecture based on the destructive inclination of post-structuralism and the theories of philosophers. Space of the past was recognized for a long time focused on functions and styles that support the building. In modern and contemporary spaces, however, the boundary of contemporary space has been blurred with the mingling of cultural phenomenon. In other words, new architectural approaches of expression have been attempted such as structure, styles and materials, in combination of diversified concepts. And, the concept of liminal space is useful to identify the multi-layered and fluid characteristics. This study examines various characteristics of expression on the liminal space characteristics of comtemporary architecture tbased on Herzog and de Meuron's architecture. The result will help us understand the expression and characteristics of the liminal space that belongs nowhere among their architectural spaces. The analysis of the ases of Herzog and de Meuron will play a crucial role in developing new possibilities of modern space and contemporary space of the future.

Contemporary architecture pursues new method of Interpretation of Non-linear space as digital media appears. As various materials and new methods can be used due to developments in science and expansion of thinking, contemporary architectural color developed extensive possibilities. It means not only the change of drawings, method of architectural product and materials but also the change of value system for architectural space. Thus the purpose of this paper is to suggest interpretation of space applied by color structure, and this point of view was based on the three elements of color perception which are light source, reflector, and observer. According to this categorization, architectural color of exterior color, layer color and interaction color are explained via examples of colors recently used on the contemporary architectures. In summary, contemporary architecture can be explained by Non-construction space interpretation for intrinsic complex meanings. Therefore, it can be explained as moving space, collage, by picturesque space, moving blur color and emptiness of color. This pursues various point of views for space interpretation, therefore it can be developed to the identity of strengthening architectures' design concept.

The purpose of this research is to understand and explore the view of the current architectural and interior design approach through Critical Regionalism created as one of the movements opposed to Contemporary. Critical Regionalism as a critical view about the contemporary architecture is based on integrated critical thinking toward a built environment surrounded by regional facts such as natural environment, materials, light, weather, unique culture where exist the specific places. The architectural themes of Critical Regionalism based on Kenneth Frampton's view and interpretation about contemporary architecture can be understood as follows; the concept of the place, tectonics, expression by abstraction and phenomenologlcal interpretation. Critical Regionalism has two distinctive features, which are the connection to the Contemporary and critical aspects to develop processes of an architectural design.

This study is focused on the indeterminancy of the contemporary social structure based on the philosophical concept of relationship. The indeterminate relationship is one of the prominent characteristics of contemporary architecture. This study aims to clarity the indeterminate programs of the contemporary urban spatial structures. As a result of imminent recognition on nature from modern world, the need for the combination between architecture and nature has been raised as another topic in architectural arena, and this kind of work is being conducted under the notion of Landscape. As the term 'Landscape' emerges as the key word in contemporary architecture, 'Landscape' begins to transcend the mere meaning of landscape architecture(gardening). The word, Landscape, has gone beyond the meaning of mere landscape, or rural vista one-dimensionally, and, after having introduced the attributes of nature into building activities, has emerged as a notion trying to form 'the architecture as landscape.' Together with these, 'Landscape' is expanding as a notion having various layers. The notion's, 'Landscape', occupying the significant position in contemporary architecture has been a recent phenomenon over 1980-1990s, and its category of practice has not certain limitation, rather it has started simultaneously from various areas. This study, before reviewing the architectural notion of Landscape by studying the Landscape notion and its various embodying methods being shown in contemporary architecture. As a result of examining the features of Landscape notion shown in various directions(ways), being influenced by the four Landscape types presented by Eduard Bru and the currents of the times, we can see that, though the features are somewhat similar, they are classified and explained as different types respectively. So, we are able to recategorize the features into 6 domains in this study.

It has been a recent phenomenon over 1980-1990s that the notion of Landscape has had significant position in contemporary architecture. And the execution range isn't limited to a certain area but is extended to various areas. Under such influence of trend of the times, various architectural attempts in which landscape notion is applied have been tried by the group of architects of our country which are mainly composed of young architects. This study aims to derive the features of landscape appearing in our contemporary architecture by analyzing how Landscape notion is embodied in our Landscape architecture which are claiming the expression of Landscape notion as nature, human beings and view. The purpose of the study is to suggest the limitation and the direction to go through of Korean Landscape architecture through the analysis of such features. Through the recategorization of the Landscape notion, this study reviews the features in detail shown in buildings in Heyily Art Valley which were built strongly based on the expression of the Landscape notion, the art works in Paju City of Publishing Industry and other Landscape buildings. The findings of the review show that Landscape architectural notion has been attempted not only in a certain facilities but also in various genres of architecture. And also it shows that the expression of Landscape notion is performed not by various ways but by only limited ones which are preferred.

The purpose of this research is to understand Ko Yu-seop's perception of 'contemporary emerging architecture' in the West by investigating into his two early 1930s' articles: 'On Emerging Arts, Particularly the Cutting-edge Architecture' (Jan. 1931) and 'Russian Architecture' (Dec. 1932). As a result of the investigation, it is argued that he attempted to systematically describe his contemporary architecture, fromthe concept of 'modern' to representative architectural theories, and his suggested reference list is considered meaningful since it illustrates one aspect of how modern architectural knowledge was transferred to Korea at that time. As his limitation, however, it should be pointed out that a significant part of his writing was a verbatim translation of the Japanese critic Takao Itagaki's New Art Acquisition (1930). Nevertheless, the two articles give us a valuable understanding related to his socialist tendency, his preferred commune-type city-cum-architecture that reflects the ideology, etc. Hereafter, this understanding needs to be further discussed in both study areas of art history and architectural history in Korea.

Rapid social changes and scientific advances of the $21^{th}c$ have brought on a major paradigm shift towards consilience, making boundaries more or less irrelevant. In the field of architecture, this is manifested in the emergence of colors that can be described as 'being aleatory', 'non-formal', 'non-deterministic' and 'perpetually evolving'. Contemporary architectural colors are not definitively fixed. They are rather liquid and metaphorical. Whereas the more traditional architectural colors have delivered clearly and precisely the intended symbolic meaning and visual information, those of today are less definitive and embody a more liquid and conceptual value system. This paper discusses the denoted signification and the meaning effect of the metaphorical color system found in contemporary architecture. This paper analyzes works of architecture from the late 20th century, when dramatic change sin architectural color system surfaced, to the more contemporary creations. Here, three categories of color are suggested, namely material color, spatial color and liquid color. Each categories considered in connection with deconstruction, holistic interactivity and the multiplicity of meanings that may result as information from the external world is perceived as stimulus to the inner mind. Contemporary architectural color scheme is characterized by its unpredictable vagueness of meaning, synesthetic engagement of imagination and chance, and expansion of the inner and outer world, all of which contribute to a metaphorical effect. The metaphorical color system of contemporary architecture can be classified into three dimensions, and it connects with human consciousness and amplifies itself through flexible and fluid communication. In this process non-physical colors materially serve as formal logic and room for varied interpretation of architectural space and our conceptual framework.

Various kinds discussion are brought up to the table about modern social phenomenons that are practically difficult sometimes even impossible to predict in field of architecture. At the very moment, 'landscape' emerged as an important concept defining contemporary architecture a very different way. Architects have and still are processing various experiments with the changed concept of 'landscape' as it became new means to construct reality. In modern cities that have possibility and potential energy, many architects have proposed 'Landscape architecture' as an architecture mode that have indeterminacy and open to all possibilities. The present study analyzes the characteristics of landscaping that appear in contemporary architecture and interior space in recent years, and present landscape as a new possibility in interior space.

Architecture is the result of reflecting paradigm. As the paradigms and architectures are changing, architect between them are not free by no means. As changes occur continuously, it is important to acknowledge the flows of change and to do some roles in that flows. Toyo Ito is one of the architects who confront the contemporary situations, find the problem and struggle to containing it in his architectural world. He tries to accept and reorganize the phenomenon that appears today's society. Contemporary architecture is showing many aspects on the ground of ecological paradigm. Therefore fresh architectural methods are being quested. This study point at one aspect of Toyo Ito's architectural feature - eco-friendly- which have domiant influences on his architecture philosophy. This notion also has important role on Toyo Ito's past and present activities.
