The purpose of this study is to understand the characteristics of intergenerational consumption-oriented attitude and consumer role performance. Major findings are as follows; 1) There is significant difference between the consumption-oriented attitudes of respective generations. The means of New generation are higher than the other generations especially in amusemental consumption-oriented attitude and tenacious consumption-oriented attitude. Baby-boomer generation is more interested in consumption than any other generation and has a rational consumption-oriented attitude. The older generation is passive to consumption and their consumption-oriented attitudes are those of amusement. 2) There is also the significant gap between the consumer role performance of generations. The means of new generation and older generation are higher in consumer role performances than other generations and are especially doing better in the roles of estimator and manager. 3) consumption-oriented attitudes illustrate the variation of consumer role performance and the stronger the rational or tenacious consumption-oriented attitude, the higher the consumer role performance and the higher the rational or tenacious consumption-oriented attitude, and the lower the passive consumption-oriented attitude, the higher the consumer performance. In purchaser and manager role, the more positive the consumption and the higher the rational consumption-oriented attitudes, the better the consumer role performance.
This study explored the level and general propensity of consumption-oriented attitude and impulsive buying behavior of high school students, and clarified factors affecting impulsive buying. The research results can be summarized as follows. 1. The degree of consumption-oriented attitude and impulsive buying behavior of high school students were relatively low. 2. Consumption-oriented attitude was found to have significant differences among students based on monthly allowance, self-esteem, influence of friends, influence of mass media and influence of consumer education at school. Moreover, impulsive buying behavior was found to have significant differences according to sex, level of parents's education, fathers job, monthly household income, monthly allowance, influence of home, influence of friends and influence of mass media. 3. The impulsive buying differed significantly according to consumption-oriented attitude. That is, the group showing a higher degree of consumption-oriented attitude also indicated higher impulsive buying. 4. The variables affecting the level of impulsive buying behavior were the level of consumption-oriented attitude, influence of mass media, influence of friends and sex. In other words, consumption-oriented attitude, influence of mass media and influence of friends had a positive affect, and female students were more apt to impulsive buying than male students.
The purpose of this study was to identify the factor structure of sociocultural attitude toward Appearance, pursuit of clothing benefits, ambivalent consumption of fashion product and the effects of sociocultural attitude toward appearance and pursuit of clothing benefits on ambivalent consumption of fashion product. Questionnaires were administered to 425 women living in Deagu Metropolitan City and Kyungbook province. The data collected were analyzed by using frequency, factor analysis, multiple regression, ANOVA, and Duncan-test. The findings are as follows. Sociocultural attitude toward appearance was composed of two factors such as internalization, and awareness. Pursuit of clothing benefits was composed of four factors such as individuality oriented, social oriented, fashion leadership oriented, and body oriented. Ambivalent consumption of fashion product was composed of three factors such as style/price ambivalence, place of purchase ambivalence, and brand ambivalence. The effects of sociocultural attitude toward Appearance and pursuit of clothing benefits on each of ambivalent consumption of fashion product variables like style/price ambivalence, place of purchase ambivalence, and brand ambivalence were explained by the factors such as internalization, and awareness, and individuality oriented, social oriented, fashion leadership oriented, and body oriented.
The purpose of this study was to investigate adolescent consumers' consumption trends to identify their tendency for conspicuous consumption. To investigate adolescent consumers' consumption factors and conspicuous propensity for consumption, mass media, peers' effects & conformity were examined. The objects of the study are 503 middle and high school students in Seoul. The data were analyzed through frequency analysis, mean, standard deviation, t-test, Pearson's correlation, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis by using SPSS Win 12.0. The major results of this study are as follows: Firstly, the factors of gender, grade and allowance suggest a consumption-oriented attitude and conspicuous consumption is revealed to be the highest among female students rather than male students, and high school students rather than middle school ones. Allowance is significantly correlated with consumption-oriented attitude and conspicuous consumption. Secondly, factors that affect the propensity for the consumption-oriented attitude of adolescent consumers are mass media, peer conformity, and effects. Thirdly, the factors affecting the propensity for the conspicuous consumption of adolescent consumers are peers' effects, mass media, and peer conformity. This investigation could contribute to enhancing the understanding of adolescent consumers.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of consumption values on well-being attitude and the effect of well-being attitude on well-being oriented behavior. This study administered a questionnaire survey to adults between 10s and 60s who lived in Seoul, Daegu, and Kyungbuk region. Data collected from 285 respondents were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA tests, factor analyses, and structural equation modeling (SEM). The model of the study was tested by structural equation modeling and the results of SEM revealed positive effects of social value and functional value on well-being attitude and positive effect of well-being attitude on well-being oriented behavior. The results of t-tests and ANOVA tests showed that there were significant differences in consumption values, well-being attitude, and well-being oriented behavior among marital status, age, educational level, and income level groups.
This study analyzed the effects of fashion consumers' moral identity and empathy propensity on ethical consumption attitude and donation behavior, and the effect of ethical consumption attitude on donation behavior. The survey was conducted on consumers over the 20s who experienced the donation of fashion products, 384 responses were used for data analysis. The result showed that the internality and symbolism of moral identity had a positive effect on ethical consumption attitudes. The all factors of empathy propensity positively affected eco-friendly oriented consumption, and cognitive empathy and social empathy positively affected boycott oriented consumption. The cognitive empathy, social empathy and relational empathy positively affected community oriented consumption and practice oriented consumption. Furthermore, social empathy and relational empathy positively affected recycling oriented consumption. The eco-friendly, boycott, community, and recycling oriented consumption positively affected temporal donation. The all factors of ethical consumption attitude positively affected emotional donation, and eco-friendly, community, recycling, and practice oriented consumption positively affected material donations. The internality and symbolism of moral identity positively affected temporal and emotional donation, and the symbolism except internality positively affected material donation. The cognitive empathy, social empathy and relational empathy positively affected the temporal donation and material donation. In addition, the all factors of empathy propensity positively affected emotional donation. The results of this study will contribute to the ethical product strategy, marketing, and sustainable development of the fashion industry.
Consumers experience various cognitive and emotional contents of clothing through postpurchase process. These experiences may affect consumer satisfaction as well as brand attitude toward clothing products. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of consumption experiences on the brand attitude toward clothing products. The research questions for accomplishing the purpose of this study were to investigate 1) the dimension of consumption experiences, 2) relationships among consumption experience, satisfaction and brand attitude toward clothing. The sample of this study was consisted of 431 females. The survey method, and factor analysis and regression were utilized for this study. The results were as follows; First, it was found out the consumption was composed of two dimensions such as cognitive and emotional experiences. According to the result of factor analysis, the cognitive experiences through consumption process were composed of 6 factors, that is, the suitability, fitness, utility/economy, sewing, deformation, and management. And emotional experiences were composed of 5 factors, that is, unpleasure, activeycomfort, inter-oriented pleasure, extra- oriented pleasure, tension. Also emotional experiences could be composed of two dimensions, that is, positive and negative emotion. The positive emotions were included pleasure and active/comfort. The negative emotions were included unpleasure and tension. Second, the result of path analysis showed that consumption experiences were related to satisfaction and brand attitude. A satisfaction influenced on brand attitude more strongly than others. And sewing, activejcomfort, extra-oriented pleasure out of cognitive and emotional experience factors affected to brand attitude directly. Satisfaction was also influenced by cognitive and emotional factors, and was the important mediator in forming brand attitude toward clothing through consumption experience. Above results imply that consumer experience multidimensional cognitive and emotional aspects of clothing through consumption process. The cognitive and emotional aspects consisting of consumption experiences, satisfaction, and brand attitude are interrelated causally. Therefore, experience related variables could be the antecedents of satisfaction and brand attitude. The satisfaction and positive emotion could be also important factors in brand attitude toward clothing.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the differences in adolescents' conspicuous consumption, and their attitude toward and purchasing behaviors for the imported luxuries and the famous brand clothing. A questionnaire survey was conducted to 570 high school students in Seoul; 538 were used for final data analysis. Factor analysis, cluster analysis, $\chi$$^2$-analysis, one-way ANOVA, Duncan's Multiple Range test were used for the statistical analyses. In terms of conspicuous consumption, three factors were formulated: brand and fashion orientation, others orientations, and prize and import orientation. Based on the factor scores, three clusters were identified: the inconspicuous, the others-oriented conspicuous, and the brand-oriented conspicuous. Regarding attitudes toward the products, significant differences were found in all attitudes. The brand-oriented conspicuous showed more favorable attitude toward the products than the other groups. Significant differences were also found in purchasing behaviors except the companions for shopping and purchase time. The brand-oriented conspicuous tended to purchase more, spend more money, prefer department stores, consider brand name and customer service as the most important criteria, and use impersonal informations sources when shopping the products. The other-oriented conspicuous tended to buy bogus products the most, use personal information and consider price and others' perception as important criteria. The inconspicuous were less likely to buy and spend money for the products.
This study compared types of time and money attitudes by respondents' characteristics, and compared leisure consumption behavior and leisure satisfaction among different groups, which are classified by attitudes toward time and money. It also verified a structural model for the relationship of leisure satisfaction and the attitudes toward time and money, and investigated the moderating effects of leisure consumption behavior. Data were obtained from a questionnaire completed by 512 adult consumers. Using factor analyses and cluster analyses, this study classified the types of time and money attitudes. The time attitude was categorized according to four clusters: time-insensibility, future- oriented, present-oriented, and past-oriented. The money attitude was divided into four clusters: future safety, stinginess/anxiety, diversion, and power/prestige. The major findings of this study were as follows: First, the propensity of leisure consumption behavior to seek fashion and conspicuousness was higher for time-insensibility group than for the others. However, the propensity of rational consumption behavior for leisure was higher for the future-oriented group. The level of leisure satisfaction was the highest for the time-insensibility group. Second, the propensity of leisure consumption behavior to seek fashion and conspicuousness was higher for those who considered money as tools for diversion and power/prestige. The propensity of rational consumption behavior for leisure was higher for the future safety and stinginess/anxiety groups. The level of leisure satisfaction was significantly higher for the diversion group. Third, from the results of structural analyses, the time-insensibility attitude showed a positive effect on the leisure consumption behavior to seek fashion and conspicuousness. The future-oriented attitude had a positive effect on the propensity of rational consumption behavior for leisure. The money attitudes of diversion and power/prestige had positive impacts on the leisure consumption behavior to seek fashion and conspicuousness, although they had negative effects on the propensity of rational consumption behavior for leisure. The leisure consumption behavior to seek fashion and conspicuousness had a positive effect on leisure satisfaction, although the rational consumption behavior for leisure had a negative effect.
This study was aimed to compare with attitudes of consumption, materialism, and impulsive buying depending on the styles of money attitudes and money values. One hundred eighty three university students were surveyed. From the analysis, there were significant differences in attitudes toward consumption, materialism, and impulsive buying between the money attitude styles (affective and cognitive), and money value styles (material oriented and value oriented). Also affective money attitude style was more popular in the material oriented value style and cognitive style was more in value oriented style.
