Consumers' interest in health is increasing, and health-seeking consumption lifestyles, including comprehensive consumption behaviors related to physical health, mental health, and a healthy dietary lifestyle are becoming increasingly important to many people. The purpose of this study was to develop a health-seeking consumption lifestyle scale that could aid in determining effects of social status, perceived health status, and socio-demographical variables on health-seeking consumption lifestyles. Data were collected via an on-line survey of 500 respondents, all of whom were married women 20 year of age or older. The data were analyzed in terms of frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, factor analysis, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The results of this study are as following: First, health-seeking consumption lifestyle demonstrated three main factors: physical health-seeking consumption lifestyle, mental health-seeking consumption lifestyle and healthy dietary life seeking consumption lifestyle. Second, most respondents identified themselves with the middle class and perceived their health status positively. Third, health-seeking consumption lifestyle demonstrated significant differences based on socio-demographical variables. Fourth, health-seeking consumption lifestyle was significantly affected by social class, age, and health status comparisons within similar age groups.
The purpose of this study was to find out the relationship between the conspicuous consumption of clothing and status inconsistency. For this study, two kinds of guestionnaires were conducted to collect data for the conspicuous consumption variables of clothing and status inconsistency variables. Status inconsistency was measured by educational levels and occupational levels of married women and their husbands, the family′s total income. Status inconsistency was defined by the inconsistency among married women′s and their husband′s educational levels, family′s total income, their husband′s occupational levels. In order to investigate status inconsistency effects, when their investment (education0 are lower than their rewards (income or occupation) they are classified as over-rewarded inconsistency, while their investments is higher than their rewards, as under-rewarded inconsistency, and their investments are equal to their rewards, as consistency. The conspicuous consumption variables in clothing were consisted of seven variables; Brand-oriented, Fashion-oriented, Leisure-showing, Leisure-oriented purchase of clothing and Excessive expenditure to purchase of clothing, purchase of Imitation clothing in well-known brand and purchase of Expensive clothing from abroad. Data were obtained fro m436 housewives living in Kwang-ju are a and analyzed by F-test, Pearson′s Correlation and Frequency. The results of this study were follow; When the subjects were divided into three group according to their status inconsistency type, there were significant differences (P<.05 or P<.01) among groups of conspicuous consumption variables in clothing. The groups of "under pivileged" status inconsistency type and "over rewarded" status inconsistency type were tend to show conspicuous consumption in clothing than other type of status inconsistency groups.
The relationship between socio-economic status and food and nutrient consumption patterns was studied in 7,370 Koreans aged 20 years and older in the 1995 Korean Health and Nutrition Survey. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of rapid economic growth on food and nutrient consumption for Korean adults in the last 30 years. Monthly household income, and individual's educational level and occupation were chosen as variables of socio-economic status for individuals. A one day 24 hour recall method was used for the dietary survey. One way analysis of varience was adopted to test tole association between socio-economic variables and food and nutrient consumption patterns. Individuals who had a high socio-economic status had significantly higher daily intake of most of the nutrients including calcium, vitamin A, vitamin B$_2$which reached above the recommended dietary allowances(RDA) and a higher percentage energy consumption from fat. In addition, individual who belonged to a low socio-economic status consumed less animal foods, including meat, egg, milk and consumed low proportion of energy from fat. The results suggest that in spite of rapid economic growth during the last 30 years in Korea, individuals who belonged to low sorio-economic status categories are still nutritionally vulnerable. Among the sorio-economic variables, income and education except occupation were the influential factors on the food and nutrient consumption of Koreans. Therefore, nutrition policy should focus on influencing the dietary patterns of lower social class individuals to improve the health status of the population as a whole.
This paper focused to classify the consumption stress coping types among married women consumers and to investigate the differences of socio-economic variables, social class, perceived health status, and consumption stress among coping types. Data were collected from 500 married women through online surveys in South Korea. Two factors of consumption stress(consumption stress before purchase, consumption stress after purchase), and three factors of consumption stress coping(Social support coping, problem solving focused coping, Passive avoidance coping) were identified. K-mean cluster analysis classified into 4 coping types with consumption stress coping. 15% of the sample were included to the passive coping type, and 25% were classified into the ambivalent coping type. 26.8% of the sample were identified to the active coping type, and 35.2% were maladaptive coping type. There were significant differences among the consumption stress coping types on education, family income, social class, health status, consumption stress after purchase. Consumer education programs should develop and implement especially for passive coping type and maladaptive coping type to cope effectively with consumption stress.
Unidimensional construct of conspicuous consumption which focuses on the ostentation of the economic assets are limited in describing today's consumers. We propose that both ostentation of social status and demonstration of uniqueness through overt consumption should be considered in the realm of conspicuous consumption. This research aims to examine the two dimensions of conspicuous consumption tendencies and their impact on new product adoption intention, which is mediated through the perceived value of the new products. This research empirically validates the theoretical conjecture by conducting an online survey (N=272). Our empirical findings reveal that ostentation of social status influences new product adoption intention both directly and indirectly through perceived social value, while demonstration of uniqueness improves new product adoption intention only indirectly through perceived utilitarian and hedonic value. This research identifies the ostentation of social status and demonstration of uniqueness as two dimensions of conspicuous consumption and refines scales to measure them. In addition, this research identifies conspicuous consumption as a driver of new product adoption intention and recognizes the mediating role of perceived value.
It has been a long tradition in the field of nutrition that the degree of malnutrition in a community used to be estimated by the degree of the adequacy of nutrients consumption in the households. The adequacy of nutrient consumption in the households then used to be applied to estimate the degree of malnutrition of the children. Such a practice is theoretically acceptable in the community where the food sharing within the household is individual serving style such as in European countries. However, the community where the dietary habit in the household is communal such as in Korea, the estimation of single serving portion from household consumption is quite uncertain. Because of such an uncertainty this study is intended to test the validity of the household food consumption level as an indication of nutritional status of the children in the rural farm households in Korea. The date from the household consumption survey in 1982 by the Korean Rural Nutrition Institute has been used for the analysis of food consumption levels of the households. The survey on the nutritional status of children of 127 preschool children from 78 farm households, has been conducted during May 1983. The nutritional status of the children has been directly measured by weight, height, skinfold thickness, haemoglobin, haematocrit and morbidity of influenza and diarrhoea. The analysis has been conducted to distinguish the differences in prevalence of malnutrition of children from the estimated of household consumption and that of from the direct measurement of nutritional status of children. The results show that the degree of malnutrition of the estimated by the household consumption level has not related with the prevalence of malnutrition by the direct measures of nutritional status of the children. Therefore, the validity of household consumption level as an indication of nutrional status in a same household is quite uncertain for the population studied.
Objectives: This study aimed to: 1) investigate the beverage consumption pattern among Korean adults, and 2) analyze the relationship between the frequency of beverage consumption and oral health status. Methods: We used data from the 6th Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. A general linear model was employed to assess the associations between demographic factors and frequency of beverage consumption; and oral health status and the frequency of beverage consumption. Results: The beverage with the highest frequency of intake was coffee (11.5 times per week). More frequent consumptions of fruit juices and carbonated drinks were associated with higher numbers of decayed teeth. Conclusions: To improve oral health, frequent intake of acidic and sweetened beverages should be reduced, and the consumption of milk should be encouraged.

Drinkers of both sexes showed less consumption of foods from vegetable origins than non-drinkers, Consequently,. They also had significantly less carbohydrate consumption then non-drinker. This result may suggest that diets of Korean drinkers is unbalanced in terms of low consumption of food from vegetable origin and carbohydrate, Nutrition education should focus on those issues to improve the nutritional status and prevent potential risk disease by unbalanced diet.
The purpose of this study is to identify the antecedents of fashion consciousness. As antecedents, psychological variables and consumption-related variables were considered. Materialism and change seeking were included as psychological variables, and face conscious consumption, status consumption, and shopping enjoyment were included as consumption-related variables. It was hypothesized that materialism and change seeking not only influence fashion consciousness directly but also indirectly through face conscious consumption, status consumption, and shopping enjoyment. Data were gathered by surveying university students in Seoul, using convenience sampling. Three hundred five questionnaires were used in the statistical analysis. SPSS was used for exploratory factor analysis, and AMOS was used for confirmatory factor analysis and path analysis. The results showed that all the fit statistics for the variable measures were quite acceptable. In addition, the overall fits of the model suggest that the model fits the data well. The hypothesized relationship test proved that materialism directly influence fashion consciousness and that materialism and change seeking influence fashion consciousness indirectly through face conscious consumption and shopping enjoyment. Regarding their relative importance on fashion consciousness, shopping enjoyment was the most influential factor followed by materialism and face conscious consumption, in that order. In developing and implementing marketing strategies for fashion conscious consumers, marketers should focus on satisfying shopping enjoyment, materialism and face conscious consumption.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between alcohol consumption and nutritional status of university male freshman in Chungnam area. The total of 111 subjects took part in the study and, they were observed general characteristics, alcohol consumption status, and nutrient intake using questionnaires. The mean age, height, weight, and BMI of the subjects were 19.3 years, 174.3㎝, 65.2㎏, and 21.5㎏/$m^2$ respectively. The mean alcohol consumption, and energy intake from alcohol were 7.8g/day, 55.3kcal/day. A significant number of subjects(48.2%) answered their frequency of alcohol consumption was once 2 weeks. Only 4.6% of subjects answered never drink. In almost subjects, alcohol consumption have been stared since they were adolescents, and major type of alcoholic beverage was 'soju'. The mean energy intake was 1985.6kcal and, energy ratio from carbohydrate, protein, fat was 58 : 15 : 27. There were significantly positive correlation among alcohol consumption and, body weight(p<0.05), intake of food, (p<0.05), energy(p<0.001), animal fat(p<0.05), fiber(p<0.05), vitamin $B_2$(p<0.05) and niacin(p<0.05). The alcohol consumption period showed a significantly positive correlation with alcohol consumption per one time(p<0.05). In summary, high consumption of alcohol in subjects was observed. Also, increase of alcohol consumption was related to weight gain and nutritional imbalance. Therefore, it is need that nutrition education for prevention of high alcohol consumption in university freshman and adolescents.
