The purposes of this study are to investigate the determinants of household demand for credit and to test the effects of credit outstandings and credit repayments on consumption expenditures. To investigate the relationship between credit use and consumption expenditures, a theoretical consumption expenditure model including credit outstandings and credit repayments is developed. With 1991 Report of National Survey of Family Income and Expenditure, two empirical models are tested using OLS. The results show that household demand for credit is determined by household income, debt burden, household size, age and squared age of household head and ratio of home ownership. It is also found that credit outstandings affect consumption expenditures positively while credit repayments affect consumption expenditures negatively.
The purpose of this research was to examine the level and trends in household clothing expenditure in Korea. Raw data sets produced by the National Statistical Office from the Family Income and Expenditure Survey from 1991 to 2004 were used to support time-series and cross-sectional analyses. The clothing expenditures decreased severely and quickly during the economic crisis of late 1997 through 1998, then increased slowly after the economic crisis until 2003, only to slightly decrease again in 2004. The ratio of clothing expenditure to total household expenditure decreased from 8.03% in 1991 to 5.11% in 2004. This decrease in relative clothing expenditure was greater in the lower income group than in the middle and high income groups. Clothing expenditure patterns were unique and differed from other household expenditures. Although the economic crisis in the late 1990s affected Korean consumers' clothing expenditure, clothing expenditure patterns showed a more fundamental and structural change from 1991 to 2004, with the overall decrease in such expenditure resulting from the concurrent increase in educational and information-communication related expenditures. Clothing expenditure was shown to be luxurious through cross-sectional analysis, but necessary through time-series analysis.
This study examined which factors influence educational expenditure by family life cycle. Data for this study were from the 2001 Household Income and Expenditure Survey and consisted of a sample of 2,681 households. The results showed that the households having high school students had the highest educational expenditure and the households having middle school students had the highest ratio of educational expenditure to consumption expenditure. The education of household head, family type, the number of children, the age of the youngest child, and family income had significant effect on educational expenditure in all the stages of family life cycle. The results of this study will be useful for financial management of households and give suggestions for the government policy on education.
Physiological analysis of the physical exercise was made on 9 subjects performing mountain climbing. The course between two points (256 and 516 meters altitude) was 1,300 meters in distance and difference of vertical height was 260 meters making the mean grade of 20%. In the field, the heart rates during uphill or downhill walk were recorded by EKG radio-telemetry. In the laboratory, oxygen consumption was obtained by the recorded heart rates, using individual heart rate vs oxygen consumption diagram obtained by treadmill test. the following results were obtained. 1. Uphill walk time was 36.5 minutes, and during this period the mean heart rate was 149.0 heats/min and peak heart rate was 169.2 beats/min. The total heart beats during the uphill walk was 5.433 beats. 2. The ratio of individual mean heart rate during the uphill walk to the maximal heart rate distributed between 66.6% and 98.3%, and the mean of the total group was 83.1%. The ratio of peak heart rate of uphill walk to the maximal heart rate was 94.5% in the group. Thus uphill walk of a 20% grade mountain course was an exhaustive exercise. 3. Oxygen consumption during uphill walk was 2.22 l/min (ranged between 1.79 and 2.70 l/min) and the ratio of this to the resting oxygen consumption was 8.31. The peak value of oxygen consumption during uphill walk was 2.73 l/min and the ratio of this to the resting oxygen consumption was 10.39. 4. Energy expenditure during uphill walk showed a mean of 11.1 kcal/min and the peak expenditure rate was 13.6 kcal/min. The total energy expenditure during 36.5 minutes of uphill walk was 396 kcal. 5. In downhill walk, the time was 31.7 minutes, mean heart rate was 118.4 (ranged between 100.1 and 142.7) beats/min, and the peak heart rate was only 129.4 beats/min. The ratio of mean heart rate to the maximal heart rate was 66.3%. Total heart beats during downhill walk was 3,710 beats. The ratio of downhill oxygen consumption to the resting consumption was 5.70. The rate of energy expenditure was 7.5 kcal/min, and the total onery expenditure during the 31.7 minutes of downhill walk was 228 kcal. 6. The effect of training was manifest in the uphill walk and not in the downhill walk. After training in mountain course walk, i) the uphill time was shortened, ii) mean heart rate increased, iii) time vs heart rate curve became smooth and showed less frequent zig-zag, i.e., the depth of trough on the curve decreased and the magnitude was less than 10 beats. In non-trained subject the depth of trough on the curve was greater than 50 beats and appeared more frequently. 7. Mountain climbing is a good health promotion exercise. For the promotion of health the reasonable amount of uphill mountain walk exercise in a 20% grade course is a walk for 40 or 50 minutes duration once a week.
The purpose of this paper is to determine the percentage of body fat by measurement of skin-fold thickness of the triceps and the subscapular area to investigate the relationship between the daily energy intake and expenditure among obese women and nonobese women based on the percentage of body fat and age. This survey included 422 females in Cheju. 1) The age distribution of the 422 females surveyed was : 26.8% were in their 20's, 20.6% in their 30's, 21.3% in their 40's, 19.0% in their 50's and 12.3% were above 60 years of age. The 422 females consisted consisted of 78% housewives, 12.8% college student and 9.2% single working women. 2) The average height and weight of the surveyed women were respecitively 159.0$\pm$4.2cm and 56.0$\pm$7.2kg, the percentage of body fat of the surveyed women was 24.8$\pm$9.8%, and the BMI of those surveyed was 22.7$\pm$2.7. If higher than 30% body fat was defined as being obese, 15.6% of the surveyed women were assessed to be obese. 3) Total daily food consumption and energy intake of the group of women aged 60 and older was significantly small. Food consumption and nutrient intake of obese women was greater than that of the nonobese group, but not significant. Carbohydrate intake of the obese group in their 40's was significantly higher than the nonobese group. Total food consumption, energy and carbohydrate intake of the obese group in their 50's was significantly higher than the nonobese group. Vegetable intake of the obese group in their 60's and older was significantly higher than the nonobese group. 4) The total time of physiological activity of women aged 60 and older was significantly higher than for the other age groups and the total work time was significantly lower. The total work time of women in their 20's was not lower than the other groups. Considering the low energy expenditure of physical activity for women in their 20's, they appeared to have light activity. However, there was not a significant difference in the physical activity time among middle aged women groups(from 30 to 50). The entire energy expenditure of the obese group was greater than the nonobese group. However, the energy expenditure per body weight in the obese group was significantly less than that of the nonobese group in terms of the basal metabolic rate in consideration of the fat free mass. 5) There was a positive correlation between the percentage of body fat and the factors of age, sleeping time, total time of physiological activity, housework time, time spent watching TV, energy expenditure, energy intake, carbohydrate and cereal consumption. On the other hand, the percentage of body fat was negatively correlated with energy expenditure per body weight based on the basal metabolic rate in consideration of the free mass.

Indonesia is the largest exporter of palm oil in the world. The province of West Sulawesi is the second-largest palm oil producer in Indonesia. This study examines the contributions of oil palm farming to total household income and the factors affecting the household expenditure of oil palm smallholders in West Sulawesi, Indonesia. This study also identifies the problems related to oil palm production in the province. Primary data were collected from 174 oil palm smallholders using a standardized questionnaire in the Lariang sub-district, Pasangkayu, West Sulawesi, Indonesia. Several statistical tools were employed to analyze the data. The study estimated the average household income of the smallholders at IDR 30,417,441 per year, out of which 85,8% comes from oil palm farming, followed by non-oil palm farming (8%) and off farming (6.2%). On the other hand, the average household expenditure was found to be IDR 23,476,069 per year which 66% goes for food consumption and 34% for non-food consumption. The findings revealed that household expenditure of the oil palm smallholders is strongly and positively affected by a number of factors such as household income, education level, family size, earning members in the family, number of children attending school, and amount of credit taken by the household.
This study investigated the association between the expenditures for childrearing and the intention to have the second childbirth applying the recursive equation models. The major results were as follows. First, more than half of the households with one child did not have an intention to have the second childbirth. Second, about 40% of the household expenditure was spent for childrearing. About 36% of the childrearing expenditure was spent on the childcare and education, and about 64% on purchase of goods and services for child. Third, the variables which had a significant effect on the intention to have the second childbirth were child's age, mother's education, father's income, the private educational expenditure, and consumption expenditure for child. The intention to have the second childbirth did not have a significant effect on the level of childrearing expenditure. The implications for the family policies were suggested.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the differences in the expenses of private education and the economic preparations for old age according to household income and consumption wants for education in mothers with school-aged children. The data used in this study were collected from 416 mothers with school-aged children aged 8 to 19 years old living in Daegu. The data analysis methods adopted for the study were two-way ANOVA and Scheff$\acute{e}$ test. The results of this study were as follows: First, there were differences in the private education expenditure according to the household income and the consumption wants for education in mothers with school-aged children. In the group of mothers of low household income, the mothers with high consumption wants for education spent more money on academic education and music, fine arts or physical education than the mother's with low consumption wants for education. On the other hand, in the group of mothers of high household income, the mothers with low consumption wants for education spent more money on academic education and spent less money on music, fine arts or physical education than the mothers with high consumption wants for education. There were no meaningful differences in the group of mothers of middle household income. Second, there were differences in the perceived burden of private education expenditure according to the household income and the consumption wants for education in mothers with school-aged children. In the group of mothers of middle household income, the mothers with low consumption wants for education perceived there was a higher burden for private education expenditure than the mothers with high consumption wants for education. Third, there were differences in the expenditure preparation for old age and the economic preparation behavior for old age according to the level of household income. The mothers with high household income spent more money on preparation for old age and did well in economic preparation behavior for old age than the mothers with middle and low household income.
본 연구에서는 공동주택 단지에서의 음식물류폐기물을 수거 이송하여 대용량처리시설에 자원화 혹은 재활용하는 기존 방식과 발생지인 공동주택 내에서 처리하는 제안 방식을 가상하여 차량수거방식, 자동집하방식, 자동집하처리방식, 소규모분산처리방식, 오수처리연계방식으로 시나리오를 설정하고 각 시나리오별 초기 투자비용, 석유 사용량, 이산화탄소 배출량, 음식물류폐기물 처리 운영비용, 입주자 부담 관리비를 비교 분석하였다. 기존처리 방식에 비해 제안하는 소규모분산처리방식이 초기 투자비용, 연간 석유사용량, 이산화탄소 배출량이 가장 낮았으며 적용, 도입 가능성이 높았다. 음식물류폐기물 처리 운영비용은 기존 처리방식과 비교하여 1톤당 334,465원(약 91%)이 절감되며 세대 당 월 1,500원인 입주자 부담 관리비용 또한 902원으로 약 40% 절감이 가능하다고 분석되었다. 각 시나리오별 초기 투자비용과 석유사용량, 이산화탄소 배출량을 비교한 결과, 초기 투자비용이 낮은 처리방식이 연료 사용량과 이산화탄소 발생량도 낮은 경향을 나타내었다. 초기 투자비용과 석유사용량, 이산화탄소 배출량이 가장 낮은 시나리오는 소규모분산처리방식이며 가장 높은 시나리오는 오수처리연계방식이었다. 연구의 공간적 범위를 공동주택 단지로 설정할 때 소규모분산처리방식이 음식물류폐기물 제로화 모델로서 가장 적합한 방식으로 판단된다.
The purposes of this study were to estimate the effect of related factors such as cultural values and individual characteristics to consumer attitude, and furthermore to estimate the effect of consumer attitude and related factors such as price perception and individual characteristics to consumption behavior(expenditure) of food away from home. To do this, the data was collected from college students and a 2 step approach by using LIMDEP program was applied to estimate the structural equation model. The results of this study were as follows: 1) Consumer attitude toward food away from home was found to be significantly influenced by some cultural values such as health, sensibility, socially responsible consumption and religion, and individual characteristics such as sex and pocket money. If they perceived more positively about the value of health, sensibility and religion, they would be likely to have more positive attitude, while they perceived more negatively about the value of socially responsible consumption, they would be likely to have more negative attitude. In addition, if they were females and had much more pocket money, they would be more likely to have more positive attitude. 2) Expenditure of food away from home was found to be significantly influenced by age and pocket money, while consumer attitude did not have a significant impact on expenditure of food away from home at the second stage in the structural equation model. It might imply that consumption behavior of food away from home for college students would be more constrained by individual characteristics such as sex and economic capital.
