  • Increase in oil prices and building energy consumption has been a great burden for Korea which has significant energy dependence on foreign energy sources. In this context, reduction of building energy consumption, which comprises 40% of total energy consumption, is a very important issue. This research therefore empirically analyzed a hospital "P" that implemented ICT-based energy consumption and cost reduction initiative. The hospital first replaced existing water absorber for heating/cooling air and boiler for heating water with water heat storage heat pump system. This was accompanied by subscribing to different electricity price plans to maximize cost reduction. Secondly, the hospital additionally applied ICT-based optimized control algorithm that considers surrounding factors (external temperature, changes in energy demand). The analysis of these mechanisms indicate that the ICT-based energy consumption and cost reduction initiative for hospitals can reduce energy consumption by 53.6% with replacement of low-efficiency equipment and additionally by 18.2% with optimized control algorithm. The mechanisms will provide energy consumption reduction opportunities for other hospitals and buildings with high energy consumption.

  • As the Internet has grown, energy consumption and GHG emission from internet use have become issues in recent years. On the other hand, such interest in greening the Internet has focused on edge devices, and there is a lack of deeper related studies of the energy wasted by excessive network-connectivity and the savings potential in wired network equipment. This study presents the background and reasonability of studies on the energy efficiency of wired networks in terms of the environment, economy and energy resources. The energy consumption and savings potential of network equipment were also estimated and the major factors of energy consumption was analyzed based on the data, and future studies for the Internet are presented.

  • The offloading method is important when there are multiple mobile nodes and multiple edge servers. In the environment, those mobile nodes connect with edge servers with different bandwidths, thus taking different time and energy for offloading tasks. Considering the system load of edge servers and the attributes (the number of instructions, the size of files, deadlines, and so on) of tasks, the energy-aware offloading problem becomes difficult under our mobile edge environment (MCE). Most of the past work mainly offloads tasks by judging where the job consumes less energy. But sometimes, one task needs more energy because the preferred edge servers have been overloaded. Those methods always do not pay attention to the influence of the scheduling on the future tasks. In this paper, first, we try to execute the job locally when the job costs a lower energy consumption executed on the MD. We suppose that every task is submitted to the mobile server which has the highest bandwidth efficiency. Bandwidth efficiency is defined by the sending ratio, the receiving ratio, and their related power consumption. We sort the task in the descending order of the ratio between the energy consumption executed on the mobile server node and on the MD. Then, we give a "suffrage" definition for the energy consumption executed on different mobile servers for offloading tasks. The task selects the mobile server with the largest suffrage. Simulations show that our method reduces the execution time and the related energy consumption, while keeping a lower value in the number of uncompleted tasks.

  • Various programs have been developed to predict the energy consumption of a building as a result of recent increased social interest in the environmental friendliness of construction as measured by energy efficiency. The goal of environmental-friendliness, which is achieved by predicting the energy consumption of a building, can be realized in the design stage by applying a variety of technologies, planning factors and planning systems. However, most energy analyzing engines are only suitable for use in the advanced stages of design because of the large amount of design information that must be entered. Thus, because the simulation programs currently used are not suitable for use in the early stages of design, this study suggests a prediction logic that provides an overview of the energy consumption of a building according to its size, scope, and purpose by analyzing statistics collected by government agencies.

  • Though electricity consumption amount in industry has been increased gradually, corresponding power supply show symptoms of marginal point. Importance of demand-side management from large-industries has also been raised. This paper deals with induction motor, which is one of representative examples of heavy electricity consumption utilities, to analyze potential technical capability, economic feasibility from consumers' viewpoint and demand-side management feasibility from nation-wide perspective. Nation-wide economic feasibility analysis was done through California test, which has been used as demand-side management evaluation model. This paper also describes limitation of existing high efficiency induction motor in terms of contribution to demand-side management and utilizes premium motor to calculate demand-side management contribution level and economic feasibility evaluation. Likewise, this paper emphasizes the efficiency improvement of induction motor and analyzes how much premium motor related technologies can contribute to demand-side management.

  • In this paper, the effects of ethanol blended gasoline on emissions and their catalytic conversion efficiency characteristics were investigated in a multiple-point EFI gasoline engine, The results show that with the increase of ethanol concentration in the blended fuels, THC emissions were drastically reduced by up to thirty percent, And brake specific fuel consumption was increased, but brake specific energy consumption could be improved. However, unburned ethanol and acetaldehyde emissions increased. Pt/Rh based three-way catalysts were effective to reduce acetaldehyde emissions, but had low catalytic conversion efficiency for unburned ethanol. The effect of ethanol on CO and NOx emissions and their catalytic conversion efficiency had close relation to the engine's speed, load and air/fuel ratio. Furthermore fuels blended with thirty percent ethanol by volume could dramatically reduced THC CO and NOx emissions at idle speed.

  • Many project (such ESCO or BRP) are being implemented for existing building energy saving. Most of medium or large building that use many energy being implemented this project. In the case of large or medium building must implement obligatorily Energy auditing. Therefore, They can be recognize their building energy consumption situation. But, In the case of small building don't need obligatorily energy auditing. Therefore, They can't be recognize their building energy consumption situation. As a result, Small buildings are difficult to participate in energy efficiency retrofit. In this research, Building owners of buildings energy load recognition and energy efficiency retrofit possible participation was analysis though survey. Survey results, Most building owners don't know building energy load. But they have a good mind to retrofit building energy efficiency. As a result, If they have energy load information, they will be participate energy efficiency retrofit.

  • A new Current-Controlled Driving Method that can drive AC PDPs with low voltage and high luminous efficiency for the sustaining period is presented. In this driving method, the voltage source is connected to a storage capacitor and the stored voltage is delivered to the panel through LC resonance. Thus, this driving method can drive the panel with a voltage source as low as about half of the voltage necessary in the conventional driving methods. The discharge current flowing into the AC PDP is limited in this method. Thus, the power consumption for the discharge is reduced and the discharge input power to output luminance efficiency is improved. Experimental results using this driving method showed that we could drive an AC PDP with a voltage source as low as 146V and that high luminous efficiency of 1.33 1m/W can be achieved.

  • Environmental issues become one of today's central concerns due to draining natural resources and environmental pollution. Architecture is given a great deal of weight on the evoking environmental pollution. In this point of view, polluting factors in architectural planning and construction were predicted in advance and alternative plans were studied, In investigation of alternative plans, both environmental pollution and economical efficiency of various alternatives were considered. A office building was analyzed for energy consumption and construction environmental load by appling LCA. Applying LCA to a office building includes a total amount of materials and energy consumption, environmental impacts and economical efficiency evaluation. In present study, LCA applied to electrical part of a office building and economical efficiency evaluation was considered.

  • In AC-PDP, it is necessary to achieve high luminance efficiency, high luminance and high definition by adopting technologies such as high xenon concentration and long gap. However, it is very difficult to apply above technologies because they make many problems such as mis-discharge and high driving voltage. Especially, the reactive power of PDP must be reduced for satisfaction in international standard IEC62087. In this paper, we proposed CLHS driving method which is half sustain driver without energy recovery capacitor. In the experimental results, CLHS driving method reduced reactive power consumption about 10%. Also, CLHS driving method improved the luminance efficiency in all discharge loads. Therefor, the more the discharge load decreases, the more the luminance efficiency improves. When the discharge load is 20%, CLHS driving method improved 5.35%.
